China-Pakistan Relations in 2021 and China's Image in Pakistan's Mainstream English Newspapers

This paper adopts a combination of qualitative and quantitative analysis to describe the basic trend of China-Pakistan relations and the main achievements of China-Pakistan cooperation in 2021, and also summarizes the basic characteristics of China's studies on Pakistan. This paper also focuses on exploring China's national image in Pakistani media in 2021. It is found that in the mainstream media of Pakistan, the major country diplomacy, China's economic development and China's politics with China-Pakistan relations as the core are rich in content, prominent in image and a large proportion of positive reports. The positive attitude of the articles in the mainstream media in Pakistan, written by elites from all levels in both China and Pakistan, deeply reflects the recognition of China's achievements in recent years and the expectation of a bright future of cooperation between China and Pakistan under the framework of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor.

Relations between Pakistan and India are much profound and deep. Relations between both countries have totally changed due to recent incidents. Press can make a positive image as well as negative image of countries concerned and has greater influence on its readers. This study is an attempt to find out the types of frames used by print media of both countries while portraying Pak-India relations. So the study focuses on a basic question; how does Indo-Pak press portray bilateral relations of Pakistan and India in their editorial contents? Qualitative Content analysis has been used to get valuable findings. Two newspapers have been taken to conduct a research i.e. daily Dawn from Pakistan, and The Times of India from India. The time frame of the research is two years from 1 st July 2015 to 30 th June 2017. The findings show that daily Dawn, in its editorials, remained supportive/positive and comparatively neutral towards bilateral relations between the two countries. Frames and overall theme in its editorials was optimistic and with positive sense. On the other hand, The Times of India found comparatively negative while framing the bilateral relations between the two countries. Most of the frames used by the newspaper and overall themes of its editorials were pessimist and blaming rival country.

The present study is focused to determine the coverage of the Pak-India relations in the national press of Pakistan, for this study four newspapers two English (Daily Times and The Nation) and two Urdu (Daily Jang and Nawa i Waqt) are selected to analyse the relations between the two countries. The agenda setting theory is used in this study and the media agenda is tried to determine. The content method is used to study the contents of the editorials of the selected newspapers from June 2013 to August 2013. The study shows that both the English and Urdu newspapers has shown the negative behaviour mostly followed by neutral behaviour whereas very less positive coverage is given for all the selected categories/issues that are Cross Border insurgency, Kashmir issue, Terrorism issue and Water crisis except the Trade, Sports and Showbiz that is given very less negative coverage.

Pakistan and India, the two largest nations of South Asia are continuously in a war state from the very first day of their separation. Several wars have been fought between the two countries. But at the same time, efforts have been made for good bilateral relations. The two countries spend a huge budget on defence which could be otherwise utilized for the betterment of their people. Pakistani media has played a great role in establishing bilateral relations between the two countries. This study is aimed to investigate the agenda setting role of Pakistani media regarding the issue of Indo-Pak relations. It was found that the Pakistani media has played a positive role in creating good bilateral relations between the two countries.

It is the most prominent and worthy relationship of the era due to their time tested and strong brotherhood friendship. Since the beginning of diplomatic relations their relations never faced serious troubled. Most important element in their bilateral relation is their ideological differences but two different ideologies never effected their relations. The relations between the United States of America and Pakistan have a significant impact on the world's politics as well as in shaping the future of the globe. However, the relations between the two countries have been passing through a lot of ups and downs during the last seven decades. Media have a pivotal role in framing and shaping this 'love and hate' relationship. The purpose of this study was to investigate the coverage of the United States-Pakistan relations by the American newspapers because the media coverage shapes the public opinion. Two major newspapers of the United States were content analyzed for a period of one year with the help of Lexis and Nexis and the coverage of Pakistan was measured and analyzed qualitatively as well as quantitatively. The results of the study revealed that the American newspapers portrayed a highly negative image of Pakistan and most of the coverage about the bilateral relations was found as negative.

China’s military modernization has led to many concerns among regional and international stakeholders. Many countries see Beijing’s intentions to become a military superpower as threatening regional peace and stability. On the other hand, being China’s strategic ally, Pakistan sees its military expansion as a positive change to back its drive to become a regional military power. This research aims to analyze the perception of Pakistani media about the Chinese military by conducting an extensive content analysis of the Pakistani newspaper ‘Pakistan Today. The data helped highlight the Pakistani media’s attitude toward China’s military ambitions. Reporting Pak-Afghan Relations: A Comparative Analysis of Pakistani and Afghan Media

This research paper investigates the role of media towards foreign policy issues between Pakistan and Afghanistan. For this purpose, it examines the type of coverage Pak-Afghan relations get in Pakistani newspapers Dawn and The News International, Afghan newspaper Afghanistan Times and Afghan news website Kabul Press. Content analysis of news reports from years 2013 and 2014 is done in order to know the framing of Pak-Afghan relations. Results reveal that Pakistani newspapers give more favorable and positive coverage than Afghan news media which tends to be more critical of Pakistan. Thus it is evident that media of both countries seems to be aligned with the foreign policy of their governments.
