They are no longer expected to be merely good managers but leaders of schools as learning organisations. It is generally perceived that the growth of nation converge on the quality of its educational leaders. The basic concern of this theoretical debate is to examine the wider context of leadership and its effectiveness towards improving school management. This paper analyses recent theoretical developments in the study of educational leadership in school management. Beginning with an overview of the concept of leadership in terms of research, theory, and practice, this paper examines theories of leadership and styles of leadership. An attempt is made on identification of contemporary issues and possible means of amelioration. This article concludes that success is certain if the application of the leadership styles, principles and methods is properly and fully applied in school management because quality educational leadership tradition offers great opportunity to further refine educational leadership and management policies and practices by accepting and utilizing the basic principles and styles of educational leadership.

This paper focused on whirlwind leadership theory, a new concept in the management of educational institutions. Attempts was made to discuss the various leadership models. Instructional leadership, distributed, strategic, transformational visionary and servant leadership characteristics of a whirlwind leader was stressed 1. and the strategies to be adopted in the effective management of educational institutions were highlighted. Practical applications of the theory as it concerned tertiary institutions and secondary schools were discussed.

In this global age, educational organizations need to respond to the effects of their environments quickly and in an efficient way. Human resources departments with creative skills and behaviors and who are open to new ideas can help organizations better achieve this. The aim of this qualitative research is to investigate the opinions of principals working at private and public primary schools related to organizational creativity. According to the results of this study, the opinions of school principals can be gathered into three themes which include: creative features of school principals in their individual behaviors, school principals’ creative roles at school in administration processes, and the existence of colleagues who support creative behaviors in the school. According to the results of this study, private primary school principals demonstrate more creative behavior, show more creative attitudes, and have more colleagues that place an importance on creativity and try to display and produce more creative behaviors and ideas than school principals in public primary schools.

A Qualitative Study of Creative Leadership and School Performance

The success of school performance is influenced by teachers and staff performance, whereas teacher and staff accomplishment is affected by principals’ leadership styles. This paper aims to observe principals’ ideal leadership styles and their impacts on school performance and staff performance. This study used qualitative method with phenomenological approach. The object of the study was principals’ leadership styles which were perceived by administration staff and teachers. 30 interviewees were involved in this study which consisted of 5 principals, 20 teachers, and 5 school staffs. Based from the data, this study found that creative leadership was perceived as the best style to manage good relationship within school staffs. Morever, there were five basic foundations of leadership behaviours that could be used to intervene leadership styles. Educational Leadership - A Perspective Beyond Managerial Processes

There is a growing concern amongst critical theories of leadership that school leaders are placed somewhere between system policies or procedures and some ethical concerns about supporting and caring for the well-being of teachers and students. On the one hand, the newly developed theories of leadership emphasise the principal's abilities to empower teachers in school improvement, but also to share roles and responsibilities in data management, school network development, and vocational learning. On the other hand, system procedures that dictate managerial approaches to institutional development aim to increase the accountability of the school principal. Therefore, the moral ontology of leaders, their reflective abilities and their desires for creative and transformative actions challenge the side effects and intentions dictated by system procedures. A review of current research on educational leadership highlights the relative limitations of management when it comes to addressing expectations and requirements that do not meet human and social dimensions. Indeed, the relationships between in-school and out-of-school educators are instilled in ethics and values, key elements for school principals in developing skills and improving their school.
