This paper reflects on some of the difficulties they face in distance education, with the purpose of deriving ideas that serve to improve the quality of the courses and terminal efficiency in this educational modality. A review of the main theories that support it is made and the context where it is inserted is analyzed, taking as reference the most important documents that govern education in Mexico, in which the goals to be achieved in this area are established. Likewise, the specialized literature on the subject is reviewed and its arguments are analyzed in the light of the authors' experience, which allows to identify strengths and weaknesses in this field, as well as to propose strategies to face problems in this type of courses.
