An electronic nose system to diagnose illness
Sensors and Actuators B: Chemical, 2000
. Recently, medical diagnostics has emerged to be a promising application area for electronic noses e-nose . In this paper, we review work carried out at Warwick University on the use of an e-nose to diagnose illness. Specifically, we have applied an e-nose to the identification of pathogens from cultures and diagnosing illness from breath samples. These initial results suggest that an e-nose will be able to assist in the diagnosis of diseases in the near future. q
Applications and Technology of Electronic Nose for Clinical Diagnosis
Rapid advances in sensor technologies have facilitated the development of high-performance electronic noses that can detect and discriminate volatile compounds in situ. The research and development of electronic noses has resulted in a new qualitative and semi-quantitative detection approach in the field of clinical diagnostics. Electronic noses have a clear potential to be a non-invasive, simple and rapid but above all accurate early diagnostic screening tool. This review collates existing knowledge of recent advances in electronic nose technologies and applications.
Electronic Nose for Identification of Lung Diseases
Latvian Journal of Physics and Technical Sciences, 2008
Electronic Nose for Identification of Lung DiseasesIn the paper, the authors analyze the preliminary results of testing a classical gas sensing instrument - the electronic nose (a metal oxide transistor sensor of chemical substances) in a hospital where patients with different lung diseases are treated. To reveal the correlation between the amplitudes of the sensor's responses and the patients' diagnoses, different statistical analysis methods have been used. It is shown that the lung cancer can easily be discriminated from other lung diseases if short breath sampling and analysis time (less than 1 min) is used in the test. Volatiles obtained from a breath sample of a patient with lung cancer give the major contribution to the responses of different e-nose sensors, so in these cases highly precise identification could be achieved.
P2.1.21 Identification of Pneumonia Based on an Electronic Nose
2012
Pneumonia is the main reason which causes patients death in hospital. The novelty breath gas analysis method probability offers doctors to identify and monitor this clinical condition immediately. But the gas analysis equipments, such as gas chromatography (GC) and Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), are very accurate but expensive, time consuming, and nonportable. The electronic nose (e-Nose) which has advantages of low cost and easy operation is more suitable to realize an infection pneumonia early alert system for personal use. In this work, we collected the sampling gas from patient who got infection pneumonia and then had been healed respectively. We used the commercial e-nose to get the raw data, and analyzed by principal component analysis (PCA). The results show that we could distinguish between patients with infection pneumonia and patients who had been healed.
Investigation of Human Pathogen Using Electronic Nose for Early Diagnosis
Journal of Telecommunication, Electronic and Computer Engineering, 2017
Electronic nose (E-nose) known as gas sensor array is a device that analyze the odor measurement give the fast response and less time consuming for clinical diagnosis. Many bacterial pathogens could lead to life threatening infections. Accurate and rapid diagnosis is crucial for the successful management of these infections disease. The conventional method need more time to detect the growth of bacterial. Alternatively, the bacteria are Pseudomonas aeruginosa and Shigella cultured on different media agar can be detected and classifies according to the volatile compound in shorter time using electronic nose (E-nose). Then, the data from electronic nose (E-nose) is processed using statistical method which is principal component analysis (PCA). The study shows the capability of electronic nose (E-nose) for early screening for bacterial infection in human stomach.

Electronics nose is an instrument which comprises an array of electronic chemical sensor with partial electrivity and an appropriate pattern recognition system, capable of recognizing simple and complex odors. In the sensor array, each sensor has its own kind of response. Certain organic compounds like butane, propane, carbon monoxide, methane are presented in house hold products which cause death to human life. Too monitor and measure these VOC's in human system gas sensor can be used .The aim of this paper is to identify the suitable pattern classification method to detect the toxic VOCs in E-NOSE Technology using appropriate hardware.
Multidisciplinary Applications of Electronic Noses to Monitor Environment and Health
Aroma, flavors and fragrances are due to extrinsic and intrinsic factors, reveals the real-time status of the object. There are attempts to develop the mimic of biological noses or advance forms by the scientists time to time. A few devices developed are more advanced than biological system but specific to certain trait only. The specificity of these devices is quite helpful in agriculture, biomedical, cosmetics, environmental, food, defense and research activities than biological noses. The electronic nose is a cheap and easy technique to decipher the shelf-life of various products in markets, even to detect the hazardous or poisonous gas where biological sniffer is not possible. Generally, it is a three-component device namely sample delivery, detecting and computing system. Currently, multi-tech devices are in-use to identify individual components of a gas mixture by a merger with conventional analytical instruments. For better sensitivity and resolution still, there is a look at the artificial system with similar or better performance than biological noses in different environmental conditions.
Current and Future Research of E-Nose(Electronic Nose
Over last decade electronic sensing or e-sensing becomes an important technology from both of technical and commercial point of view which refers to the capability of reproducing human senses using sensor arrays and pattern recognition system. An electronic nose is such an instrument which consists of mechanism for identification of chemical detection such as an array of electronic sensors and a mechanism of pattern recognition. This paper highlights the significant researches of Electronic nose which are being performed currently and at the same time how can we use it in the future more effectively. Introduction-An electronic nose is a device intended to detect odors or flavors. It is an
