A Review on Halal Tourism: an Analysis on the Parameters

Halal has become a global issue today, not least in Indonesia. At the state level, Indonesia is planned to become the world halal center. This is clearly seen by the Ministry of Tourism trying to increase the number of tourists visiting Indonesia, especially visiting halal tourist destinations. A Projection of Halal Tourism: A Case Study of Pekalongan City, Indonesia

The purpose of this study is to explore the projection of halal tourism development in Pekalongan City. By using a qualitative approach, this research collects data with observation of the tourism spot, interview with the government and tourism agents, and documentation. The results of this study reveals several facts. First, Pekalongan has complete tourism spots for the past and present time, including shopping center, culture, religious destination, culinary, natural scenery, and special events. Batik, as a distinctive product of Pekalongan, along with its derivatives become a leading tourist attraction. The various nicknames for Pekalongan, such as a creative city, suggest a potential to support this city in realizing halal tourism. Second, halal tourism in Pekalongan still needs support, including (1) contribution from the city government in issuing policies supporting halal tourism, in the forms of local regulations, organizing exhibitions, and others (2) adequate transportation, which has not been optimized. (3) sufficient religious facilities, which needs to be revitalized. (4) the need of increasing the numbers of sharia hotels (5) educated community in realizing halal tourism (6) the improved support of the entrepreneurs of creative industries. Third, to meet the Global Muslim Travel Index, there must be developing infrastructure, supported by the serious efforts from the government, tourists, and also the community. The government's serious efforts in developing the halal tourism will have an impact on government revenue, job opportunity, and public welfare, particularly for the tourism actors.

Prospects of halal tourism development in West Kalimantan Province, Indonesia

This study aims to reveal the prospects of halal tourism development to obtain opportunities in West Kalimantan. This study used a qualitative method with a phenomenological approach. The research data were collected through interview, observation, and documentation which were then analyzed using NVivo 12 Plus. The prospects of halal tourism in West Kalimantan Province were seen from the development of four aspects: destination, marketing, industry, and institution. The high prospects of promising halal tourism in West Kalimantan, must be the primary development focus. Halal Tourism Development Strategy in Indonesia

The tourism industry has several goals, including to meet the physical, spiritual and intellectual needs of every tourist with recreation and travel and can improve the community's economy in order to realize the welfare of the community. Development StrategyHalal tourism is an alternative for the tourism industry in Indonesia along with the development of halal tourism which is part of the global Islamic economy industry. The rapid development of tourism has given rise to a new trend of developing halal tourism. However, its development still faces several obstacles and becomes a challenge in various parts of Indonesia. This study aims to describe the obstacles and challenges in the development of halal tourism in Indonesia and propose strategies that can be used to overcome these obstacles and challenges. This study uses a qualitative descriptive approach for data collection and uses content analysis techniques. The results of the study show that the obstacles to the development of halal tourism are the unprepared human resources and the lack of in-depth understanding of stakeholders and the community regarding the concept of developing halal tourism, community participation, which lacks innovation in promotional programs and inadequate facilities. Meanwhile, the challenges are the absence of regulations regarding the development of halal tourism in Indonesia and the lack of halal certification from the Indonesian Ulema Council.

Opportunity and Threat of Developing Halal Tourism Destinations: A Case of Banjarmasin, Indonesia

Banjarmasin is a unique city and well known as a City of Thousand Rivers (Kota Seribu Sungai). There are many potential halal tourist destinations in the city primarily those related to rivers and the Islamic life of the people. However, these potentials have not been developed adequately for tourism. As such, the aim of this study is to reveal the potentials of halal tourism in Banjarmasin and to assess the opportunity and threat in developing the city as a favorite halal tourist destination in Indonesia. For that reason, the Global Muslim Travel Index (GMTI) 2018 became the referred standard. The study was conducted with a qualitative approach and analyzed by using the descriptive-analytical method. The study reveals that Banjarmasin has the treasure of religious, natural, historical as well as shopping and culinary tourist destinations. The religiosity of the people that is reflected in their cultural life is also interesting to be observed. All these provide a big opportunity to attract both domestic and foreign visitors. But at the same time, the city still faces some threats especially in terms of lack of access, communication, and services that need to be seriously overcome by all relevant stakeholders.

Strategic Model for Halal Tourism Development in Indonesia: A Preliminary Research

Halal tourism is one of the emerging sectors in the halal industry. The article aims to identify the main problems, solutions, and strategies for developing a model of halal tourism. The qualitative and quantitative approaches are used in this article, including in-depth interviews and expert group discussions with the community leaders, academics, culinary and travel entrepreneurs, local tourism board, hotel entrepreneurs, and tourists representing halal tourism stakeholders. The data was complemented with research questionnaires and compiled using the Analytic Network Process (ANP) method, with Super Decision as a data processing tool. Optimizing the Potential Strategy of West Sumatra Tourism Destinations Towards the Leading Halal Tourism Destinations in Indonesia

Tourism makes a significant contribution to the Indonesian economy. West Sumatra has a great potential to get investors to develop its tourism, because it has a beautiful nature coupled with its diverse and unique culture. Although several awards have been won by West Sumatra, West Sumatra has not been able to reflect a "decent" class in terms of infrastructure readiness, management, supporting facilities, and low awareness of community tourism culture. The purpose of this research is to formulate a strategy for halal tourism in West Sumatra in order to build a positioning to increase the competitiveness of halal tourism in Indonesia. This research is a qualitative descriptive study using secondary data from scientific journals, previous research, and publications. Primary data collection techniques were obtained by means of in-depth interviews with semistructured methods and non-participatory observation techniques. In order to build a positioning to improve the competitiveness of halal tourism in Indonesia, the implementation of halal tourism marketing strategies that can be done is DOT (Destination, Origin, Time), BAS (Branding, Advertising, Selling), POSE (Paid Media, Owned Media, Social Media, Endorse). Meanwhile, the strategy for developing human resources for halal tourism is to create sustainable and competitive human resources, distribute tourism scholars, and create qualified and trained human resources. In addition, the strategy of making West Sumatra as Indonesia's leading halal tourist destination is to increase public awareness to be involved in sustainable development tourism programs, add and improve tourism support facilities, promotion through digital media, and increase halal tourism certification. Based on the results of the study, recommendations were obtained on how to manage halal tourism in West Sumatra to become Indonesia's leading destination.
