Effect of graphical method for solving mathematical programming problem
Daffodil International University Journal of Science and Technology, 1970
In this paper, a computer implementation on the effect of graphical method for solving mathematical programming problem using MATLAB programming has been developed. To take any decision, for programming problems we use most modern scientific method based on computer implementation. Here it has been shown that by graphical method using MATLAB programming from all kinds of programming problem, we can determine a particular plan of action from amongst several alternatives in very short time. Keywords: Mathematical programming, objective function, feasible-region, constraints, optimal solution. 3 Introduction to Linear Programming
The development of linear programming has been ranked among the most important scientific advances of the mid-20th century, and we must agree with this assessment. Its impact since just 1950 has been extraordinary. Today it is a standard tool that has saved many thousands or millions of dollars for most companies or businesses of even moderate size in the various industrialized countries of the world; and its use in other sectors of society has been spreading rapidly. A major proportion of all scientific computation on computers is devoted to the use of linear programming. Dozens of textbooks have been written about linear programming, and published articles describing important applications now number in the hundreds.
The Science and Art of Formulating Linear Programs
1987
This paper describes the philosophy underlying the development of an intelligent system t o assist in the formulation of large linear programs. The LPFORM system allows users t o state their problem using a graphical rather than an algebraic representation. A major objective of the system is to automate the bookkeeping involved in the development of large systems. It has expertise related t o the structure of many of the common forms of linear programs (e.g. transportation, product-mix and blending problems) and of how these prototypes may be combined into more complex systems. Our approach involves characterizing the common forms of L P problems according to whether they are transformations in place, time or form. W e show how LPFORM uses knowledge about the structure and meaning of linear programs t o construct a correct tableau. Using the symbolic capabilities of artificial intelligence languages, we can manipulate and analyze some properties of the L P prior t o actually generating a matrix.
A graphics interface for linear programming
Communications of the ACM, 1989
We describe the interface to a software system that assists users in the process of formulating linear programming models. The main idea is to introduce a new representation that allows modelers to depict their problems in a graphical rather than mathematical form. This representation is described in detail together with a number of other interface design principles that we believe will aid modelers—including hierarchical decomposition, multiple model representations, alternative formulation approaches, the use of model templates, and database and model management facilities. These features are illustrated using the output of a prototype system formulating a realistic LP problem.
Solution of Large-Scale Linear Programming Problem by Using Computer Technique
2022
Linear programming (LP) is an important part of applied mathematics. This method has found its applications to important areas of product mix, blending and diet problems. Steel, chemical, food processing industries and Oil refineries industry are also using LP with considerable success. But in practical LP can be very large. In this paper, our intent is to formulate an LP model of some large-scale real-life-oriented problems and to apply computer techniques for solving these problems. Starting with the graphical procedure which provides an ample amount of understanding into some fundamental concepts, the simple procedure of solving LP problems is developed. Finally, a special class of LP problem, namely Transportation is taken up and solved. We also solved the simplex system by using FORTRAN programming.
Visual LinProg: A Web-based Educational Software for Linear Programming
Computer Applications in Engineering Education, 2007
Visual LinProg is an educational tool that solves Linear Problems (LPs) using animation and visualization techniques. The core of the proposed software includes the well-known class of simplex type algorithms. This tool is a Web-based software and hence platform independent. Visual LinProg was initially invented to be used in mathematical programming courses to supplement the teaching. The user-student can solve his own general LPs, view the solution process step-by-step and import or export his own examples in an easy way to read format. The solution process is covered scholastically through textual information and also the necessary steps from the pseudo code are depicted using multiple views. In this paper we describe Visual LinProg and how it is used in educational purposes. Finally, we present an evaluation of the proposed educational tool.
Application of Linear Programming to Profit Maximization (A Case Study of
Journal of Advances in Mathematical & Computational Sciences, 2019
Companies exist not just for the provision of goods and services but to maximize profits and drive wealth to their owners. As that is what guarantees its continuous existence, productivity and expansion. The lack of effective and sustainable profit maximization results in the liquidation of organizations, especially the small scale production companies. This work demonstrates the pragmatic use of linear programming methods in maximization of profit at Johnsons Nig. Ltd, Bakery division wherein the four various Kings Size bread were subjected to statistical analysis via the Simplex method in a bid to determine which bread size assures more objective value contribution and gives maximum profit at a given level of production capacity. The optimal solution obtained showed that the production of three units of large Kings bread size with the objective coefficient of fifty naira will yield an objective value contribution of One hundred and fifty naira. To test the feasibility of the solution, Sensitivity analysis was carried out, the result of which revealed that for the optimal solution to remain comparatively unchanged the coefficient of í µí±¥ must remain between 50 to 30. Otherwise, its contribution to profit will be zero, which will in turn necessitate its discontinuity.
