Vehicular Ad Hoc Network Based Pollution Monitoring in Urban Areas (original) (raw)
2012 Fourth International Conference on Computational Intelligence and Communication Networks, 2012
Abstract
Vehicular transport has become an inevitable part of the urban lifestyle be it using public transport, motorcycles or cars. The result is that time taken for commuting has greatly reduced. But this in turn increases the count of people who would use this mode of transport and thus the traffic in the roads increases. The concern however lies in the increase in pollution resulting from this rapid growth in the number of vehicles in the road and that there isn't a system that checks the pollution levels in all city traffic pockets. Our project revolves around the concept of monitoring the pollution levels from each vehicle itself and collecting this information by transmitting it to the regulation authority by means of an ad hoc network setup where the vehicles on the road behave as mobile nodes.
