Evaluation of the Two Runway Queuing System: Evidence from Soekarno-Hatta International Airport in Indonesia

This study aims to analyze the queuing system, service performance, and utilization of the two runways at Soekarno-Hatta Airport, Tangerang, Indonesia. The number of aircraft movements at the airport at busy hours exceeds capacity, resulting in long queues. This study uses a quantitative approach and queuing theory with a single server multi-channel queuing system. Discussion of runway service performance at Soekarno-Hatta Airport, by calculating the Queuing System State Probalilities to determine the probability of n units (arrivals) in the system. Five equations have been analyzed in order to Evaluation of the Two Runway Queue System. The findings of this study provide a signal for optimizing airport operator runway utilization by developing runway capacity and adding infrastructure as well as adding taxiways, aprons, and runways. The increase in runway capacity will have an impact on more aircraft services, which also means more effective and efficient runway utilization. To improve the queuing system, it is necessary to improve queuing system services with regular training of directly related officers so that the queuing system can be more effective and efficient. To improve the performance of runway services, it is necessary to increase the capacity of the navigation tools currently owned.

SLOT TIME CAPACITY IN PEAK HOUR AT SOEKARNO-HATTA INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT

In early 2015, Soekarno-Hatta International Airport was one of the airport that nominated as the busiest in the world in 2014. Soekarno-Hatta was ranked 12, with the number of passenger ± 59.4 million per year, which is around 162 thousand passengers come and leave the airport every day. Month by month the traffic tends to rise. Gradually, the traffic growth will be an opportunity for Indonesia, but it can be a threat if the traffic growth is not handled properly. The purposes of this research are to calculate the true capacity of runway with 2 runways owned by Soekarno-Hatta International airport and predict the traffic growth happened using queue theory and forecasting methods. The result is to shows that slot time perhour has beyond the number of capacity and increasing the amount of traffic would affect the slot time significantly. So runway utilization shows that adding new runway is one of the methods to cope of traffic growth currently.

Analysis of Landing Airplane Queue Systems at Juanda International Airport Surabaya

CAUCHY: Jurnal Matematika Murni dan Aplikasi

Juanda International Airport is currently preparing to realize the construction of terminal 3. This construction project impression that Juanda Airport is experiencing an overload, including in the airplane queue. This study aims to analyze the current queuing system at the Juanda International Airport apron, whether effective, quite effective, or less effective in serving the number of existing flights with two terminals. An analysis of the queuing system was conducted in several scenarios. They are in normal/regular condition, a scenario if there is an increase in flight frequency, and a scenario if there is a reduction in aprons’ number because of certain exceptional situations. To analyze the airplane’s landing queue at Juanda airport apron, the queuing model (M/M/51) : (FCFS/∞/∞) is used. From this model, the results show that in normal conditions, the estimated waiting time for each airplane in the system is 0.18 hours with a queue of 2 up to 3 planes/hour, categorized as effe...

Impact of Passenger Growth in Soekarno-Hatta Airport

2018

The purpose of passenger growth analysis is to predict what we’ll do for the future. Some airports in the world have a long plan to use their airport with effective and efficient, but in this period, Indonesia has a significant increase of population. So, in developing country such as Indonesia, the country must have good politic and economic. It can be implemented and can be survived for a long time, the result is a lot of people have a good financial and economic in their life. To cover their want and need in aviation point of view, we must do preventive action like building up the new terminal to expand and accommodate the passenger or airport development. Even though we can predict and do action about passenger growth, we must improve our service and quality as airport management in all of the aspect. Airport management has also made airport master plan. This study case, we consider the airport terminal capacity, planning problem as a whole. We use Method Descriptive Research.

Optimization of Runway Capacity at CGK Airport

2017

Runway complexes are the principal bottlenecks of airports, and therefore knowledge of their capacity is of vital importance (Zografos, Stamatopoulos, & Odoni, 1997). However, Take-off and landings have to be assigned to a runway and a time while meeting the sequence-dependent separation requirements and minimizing the delays (Janić, 2017). At an operational level, runway scheduling seek to determine effective aircraft schedules over one or multiple runways using pertinent factors that affect the flow of air traffic movement at Soekarno-Hatta International Airport (Farhadi, Ghoniem, & Al-Salem, 2014). Therefore, this article discusses the optimization of runaway capacity at CGK airport or Soekarno-Hatta International Airport using descriptive quantitative-qualitative method to know the air traffic movement. The result in table one which showed the peak, moderate, and low hour on day five revealed that the capacity of runway at Soekarno-Hatta International Airport per day reached 168...

Application of Queuing Model to Ease Traveler's Flow in Nigerian International Airports

The study examined the application of queuing model to ease travelers' flow in the Nigerian international airports. Travelers experiencing long queuing for boarding and arrival at the airport is not only at the local airports but also a growing concern to the stakeholders at the international airports, these queues have led to loss of time, resources and contributed to creating health problems for some travelers while on queue in which some have even collapse and die in the process. This study aims to develop a structural model (or flow chart) to ease travelers flow within different operational servicing units in the Nigeria Airport. The study employed observational and ex-post facto research designs. The population of the study are infinite (travelers at the airports) and finite (entire international airports in Nigeria). Cochran's (1977) formula was used to get the sample size from infinite population to be 246. Convenient sampling technique was used to select two international airports wile accidental sampling technique was used to select the sample from the infinite population. Content validity and Cronbach's alpha reliability was used to measure the research instrument. The observational data were analysed using TORA optimization application. After a three-day observation of the travelers' movement at 6 airlines desk at the chosen airport with the introduction of multiple queue multiple server in parallel model developed reveals on the average for the 6 airlines, number of customer in the system is 4.04 travelers, while the average number of travelers waiting in a queue per hour is 1.49. The average time traveler spent in the system (wait-inline and been served) is 0.022 (1.33minute) while the average time a traveler spends in the queue waiting for service is 0.0096 (0.58minutes).

System analysis of airport capacity and slot coordinatıon at Ataturk airport

Pressacademia, 2016

Airline service is a huge and complicated process that needs to be handled, basically in a routine operation an airline has to have numbers of services in different level such as ground handling, passenger/cargo terminal service, airport navigation service, customs service, security service etc. In aviation sector, on time and adequate service is priority for airlines. Airline operation must be handled with great timing effort because producing and consuming take place at the same time. Therefore, to arrange each task in a proper way, airport capacity should be planned, monitored and managed in advance by assigning time, park position and boarding/unloading process. Airport capacity is detected with the assessment of construction of facilities and other factors affecting the capacity. After release of capacity this acquired capacity is allocated to the demanders according to specific conditions and privileges. This paper has three stages in general: In the first stage of this paper, the theoretical research of airport slot coordination system has been examined empirically. In the second part, with the data acquired by study in practice airport coordination, slot, slot types, slot allocation and slot allocation types has been stated with tables. In the final part of the study, the categorization of slot allocation was discussed and evaluated by employees working at both airport and airline business by means of in-depth interview. With analyzing the obtained results, the slot coordination system used in Atatürk Airport has been identified and on the purpose of improvement of system some recommendations have been made.
