Status of Online Education in India: Pre and Post COVID-19 Era

For the past several years, the COVID-19 pandemic has forced educational institutions around the world to close their doors and as a result, the academic calendar has been badly put on the line. The COVID-19 pandemic has sparked a global realization that the current way of the education system is not going to work and it needs serious reforms in developing countries like India where most of the curricula are designed for traditional offline modes of education. Online education is one of the most reliable methods that can help combat the inevitable crisis faced in India by the education sector due to COVID-19. There have been numerous challenges and opportunities created by the sudden change in teaching and learning methods. A critical analysis of the educational sector's impact during an Indian disease outbreak is presented in this article. Moreover, various aspects of how India approaches this critical situation through online education are discussed. In addition, the article provides information about how to handle the challenges of online education. The results of the investigation carried out in this paper indicate that majority of respondents are prepared to enroll and utilize the benefits of the online education system with few hurdles that need to be tackled by the government of India in order to spread this adoption to the masses.

Online learning: A blessing during pandemic with special reference to students studying in private institutions at Dehradun (Uttarakhand)

Online teaching and learning during Covid 19 was initially tryout which later turned out to be a blessing so far as enabling students to continue their studies from the comforts of their homes is concerned. E- learning has raised the level of learning on digital platform. This paper attempts to throw light on all the aspects of online teaching and learning. Response of students of higher education was reported during second and third wave of COVID 19 respectively. 148 students participated in the survey that started in May 2021 and ended in February 2022. Data was analyzed using SPSS. Results showed that online learning was initially found to be challenging in the first wave of Covid-19 but later during second and third wave provided great support in strengthening education system all over the world. The study recommends the benefits of online learning by using technologies in classroom.

CHALLENGES OF ONLINE TEACHING-LEARNING IN HIGHER EDUCATION SECTOR AMID COVID-19: A STUDY THROUGH THE LENS OF STUDENTS AND TEACHERS OF WEST BENGAL

Since middle of March, 2020, all the academic institutions from KG to PG level in India have been shut down to prevent spread of infection of corona virus. As a corollary, both teachers and students have been going through a paradigm shift in platform of teaching-learning, i.e., from offline to online, from the old, chalk and talk model to one driven by technology. The central and the state governments have come forward with a cluster of e-learning initiatives during this juncture. In spite of creating governmental and institutional supports, substantial researches confirm that students and teachers have been facing wide-ranging challenges associated with online teaching-learning. In the near future, digital education is likely to be incorporated side by side face-to-face education. Against this backdrop, this paper intends to peep into the degree of preparedness in West Bengal and in India nationally towards online teaching-learning in higher education sector. It primarily aims to explore the daunting challenges of online education in higher education sector (UG and PG level) particularly in the Indian state of West Bengal through the lens of students and teachers with an objective of proposing an evidence-based set of future roadmaps.

An Inevitable Transition of Secondary Education towards Online Learning: COVID-19 Effect and Measures Taken from Government of India

At present, an innumerable number of deaths are often common due to COVID 19 pandemic. Many of us are going through mental despair and physical illness during this mischievous circumstance. The impact of the pandemic is observed in every sector around the world. The education sector of India is not beyond this. Around 32 crore learners stopped to moved schools and colleges in India (Jena, 2020). The outbreak of this disease taught us that change is unavoidable. It has worked as a catalyst for the educational institutions to grow and forced them to choose technical platforms which have not been used to earlier. The education sector is fighting to survive for its existence, and the Government of India and state governments are trying different approaches to eradicate the pandemic threat (Singh et al., 2021). This paper highlights the impact of Covid-19 on the Indian education system and elaborates significant measures taken by the Government of India to carry on the education system effectively at the secondary level during this pandemic. Various research papers concerning the same thing have been presumed to expose the solemnity of this situation, which is regulating the entire world.

Post COVID-19 and online Education in India

In India, the COVID-19 outbreak has been declared an epidemic in all its states and union territories. To combat COVID-19, lockdown was imposed on March 25, 2020 which has adversely affected the education system in the country. COVID-19 has brought about changes to the education system that impact teachers in different ways. The compounded by the fact that students from economically weaker sections of society have become hard to reach, and teachers do not know how to support hard-to-reach students who are also severely affected by the pandemic both urban rural areas. It has changed the traditional education system to the educational techno based model, where teaching and assessments are conducted online. This paper aims to identify the changes in teaching and assessment in different home environment settings in India.

Impact of Online Courses on Higher Education in India

This has further been accelerated recently by Covid 19 considered one of the most pathetic pandemic situation for the whole world. The COVID 19 has resulted in school’s colleges and educational institutions shut all across the world as result educational system has changed dramatically with the distinctive rise of E –learning whereby teaching is undertaken remotely and on digital platforms. The government has taken commendable measures by introducing the concept of E-learning.These nationwide closures are impacting over 91% of the worlds' student population.

Online Education in India During the Corona Pandemic: Aptitude and Attitude of Students

Emergence of Coronavirus from Wuhan, China has brought in a very unique experience in the history of modern era, impacting people in all walks of life. Educational sector saw a quantum leap into digital teachinglearning. The situation was unique and there emerged an unfamiliar order in the midst of pandemic chaos. Despite many adversities faced by the teaching fraternity and the student community, the learning never stopped. The study aimed to find out the attitude and aptitude of students in India during the lockdown. This study draws out the following conclusions – Zoom and Cisco Webex were the top two platforms that the students had knowledge of for remote learning; students ranked their computer skills as good (47%), fair (33.80%) and poor (19.20%); 49.60 per cent of the students ranked their app skills as good, 34.10 per cent fair and 16.40 per cent poor; a significant difference in the computer skills, app skills and overall skills (both computer and app) of the students was observed. Students opined that online mode of teaching was not suitable for practical content, more self dependency consequently stressful and provided an opportunity to choose their learning style. There was a significant difference between the knowledge, skill, and attitude of the students. The top two problems cited by the students in online classes were network connectivity issues and a pressing need for more storage space to avail the data related to course content.

A Study on Establishing the Online Teaching-Learning for Higher Education During COVID-19 in India

This study has been compiled during the lockdown period due to the outbreak of corona virus (COVID-19) pandemic in India. This work has been carried out at the time when the “work from home” initiative was announced by the Government of India, and all academic institutions were advised to take online classes. Observing the situation, research on establishing the online teaching system was conceived. In the second week of lockdown period, when there was an appeal for inviting ideas/suggestions, during the campaign launched by the MHRD, India 1 , this research work became even more certain of the academic transformation. Thus, the results of this study have proved the actual aspect of the online teaching-learning process. The predictions substantiated by fact may continue to come true in the future as well. These results have come about as a response of 310 teaching staff to the survey conducted and evaluated during the period.

A Conceptual Analysis on How COVID-19 Has an Adverse Effect on Online Education towards College Students in the Indian Scenario

As we continue living in the 21 st century there are extreme changes which are taking place in our country which has been evolved and molded in such a manner there has been quick changes which are experienced in our learning system where education institutes were closed to aide covid-19 virus disease where the government has been encouraging online education to achieve academic and to set the theoretical continuity. Most high ended public and private institutions have replaced classroom-based education smoothly by using online platforms such as zoom, google meet, Microsoft team, google classroom etc. This study is based on the problems faced by students and educators as a result of online education. It studies whether online education is a boon or a bane. It highlights the good, bad, ugly faces of online education and its impact and consequences on the students. It also shows whether online education will exist in the long run-in future or whether the traditional method of learning in classroom will continue or not. This is a qualitative study focused on the students in the age group of 16 to 35 years and the data will be collected through primary and secondary sources.

Problems and Challanges in Online Education during COVID 19 Pandemic in India

This article studies the challenges and effectiveness of online education in India during COVID-19 pandemic. The responses of 200 students and 42 teachers have been analysed to understand their problems and challenges and to make the online education more effective. A substantial number of respondents found online teaching/learning tiring. Many complained about poor internet connectivity and lack of training and gave some useful suggestions to improve the quality of online classes. This work highlights the need of better technical and pedagogical training and psychological grooming of teachers and students in India.
