Trend of relations between morphological characteristics and motor abilities in preschool children
Collegium antropologicum, 2009
Measurements of eight anthropometric characteristics and a battery of seven motor tests were applied in a large sample of 1170 children, 565 boys and 605 girls aged 4 to 7.5 decimal years from preschool institutions in three towns in Vojvodina (Novi Sad, Sombor, and Bacha Palanka). Children were selected according to 0.5 decimal years in the mentioned age range. The status of boys and girls according to seven age categories, age-related differences between boys and girls, as well as the relations between anthropometric characteristics and motor abilities were analyzed by use of intercorrelation matrices and canonical correlation analysis. Generally, significant sex differences were found in anthropometric characteristics, i.e., the values of bone growth in length were higher in boys, while the values of voluminosity and subcutaneous adipose tissue were higher in girls. Concerning the space of motor variables, there were significant differences in functioning of the mechanism of move...
Motor Proficiency and Body Mass Index of Preschool Children: In Relation to Socioeconomic Status
The aim of the study was to investigate the correlation between motor proficiency and body mass index and to assess the socioeconomic status differences in motor proficiency and body mass index of preschool children. Sixty preschool children in the different socioeconomic status areas of central Denizli in Turkey participated in the study. The Bruininks-Oseretsky Test of Motor Proficiency, Second Edition (BOT-2) was used to assess children's motor proficiency and height/weight measurements were taken to calculate the BMI of children. There was no significant relationship between BOT-2 scores and body mass index scores of preschool children (p>0.05). There were significant SES differences in favor of high and middle socioeconomic status preschool children (p<0.05). Low socioeconomic status children had lower manual coordination, body coordination, strength and agility and total BOT-2 composite scores than their high and middle counterparts. The teachers, parents or those responsible for low socioeconomic status children in particular, have to find a way of practicing and improving the fundamental motor skills of preschool children.

Fine motor skills are action involve small muscles using hand and fingers for precise movements. Fine motor skills is important especially in six years old preschool children because they are engaging with eye hand coordination, in hand coordination and bilateral especially in handwriting and drawing activities. Socioeconomic status (SES) is one of the factor may affect children fine motor skills development because children from low SES was high prevalence of growth restriction due to inequalities lifestyle and may associated with delay in motor development. The purpose of this study was to identify the relationship between fine motor skills and SES among six years old preschool children. A total of 168 children (male=84, female=84) aged six years old preschool children participated in this study. They were divided into three groups based on parent’s income which were known as low income group, moderate income group and high income group. McCarron Neuromuscular Development (MAND, 1...
Aim: The aim of the study was to determine differences in the level of motor abilities of 7-9-year-old girls and boys in relation to the socioeconomic status of their families. Material and Methods: The research was conducted in 12 primary schools in two regions of Poland namely of Warmia & Mazury and Pomorskie voivodeship, on the total of 1205 pupils (584 boys and 621 girls) aged 7-9. Selected economic factors such as the type of school (public or private), monthly income per household member, and the number of children in a given family were accepted as the independent variables. The factors behind social status included the place of residence and parents’ educational background. In order to determine the level of motor abilities, 13 motor tests were applied. Results: The research revealed that motor tests such as 1 and 3 min. Burpee test and medicine ball throws (forward and backward) appeared to show the biggest differences in the level of motor abilities of the children whose s...

Nutrition-Socio-Economic Status Relations Effect on the Physical Development of Preschool Children
Food and Health, 2019
This study was conducted to question the socioeconomic and educational status of preschool 4-6years old children and their families living in Bitlis and its counties; and also, to examine the effects of these variables on the nutrition and physical development status of children. A total of 960 students, 479 boys and 481 girls, aged between 4-6, who were attending preschools in Bitlis and its counties were included in the study. There was a significant difference (P<0.05) between the BMI values of the children and the educational status of their parents; however, there was a very weak correlation between these values (mother (r=0.163), father (r=0.121. When the total daily sleep durations and the BMIs of the children were compared, it was determined that there was a significant difference (P<0.05) and a relation at a moderate severity (r=0.54). It was determined that the nutrition and physical development status of the children was related with the socioeconomic and educational levels of the parents with a weak correlation and with a positive and very high correlation with the consumption of some food groups.

The development of early childhood needs to be considered, considering the child is a parent investment in the future. Meeting the nutritional needs of children has an important role in achieving optimal growth and development, and is one of the determinants of achieving these needs. Nutritional status in children in the school environment often uses height and weight parameters. This study aims to determine the effect of nutritional status on early childhood on motor skills. The method used is ex-post facto in the sample of early childhood aged four to five years who have attended kindergarten with middle-level socioeconomic status. Nutritional status is known through height and weight, gross and fine motor development measured using ASQ 3rd edition. Data was processed with SPSS using the Kruskal Wallis Test analysis technique. The results show 90% of children are in the Thin category, 6.7% are in the Normal category, and 3.3% are in the obesity category. There is no influence of n...
Association between socioeconomic status and motor development in early childhood
International journal of health sciences
Background: Motor development in early childhood undergoes great maturation and refinements due to the huge contact and interaction with the environment. Socioeconomic status (SES) as an environmental factor can affect motor development in this age period. The aim of this study was to assess the relation between SES and motor development. Study Design: This study was an observational cross-sectional study and it conducted in nurseries and elementary schools at Cairo governorate, Egypt. Subjects & methods: Two hundreds and seventy six normal children from both sexes aged 4-7 years old participated in this study. Motor development was assessed by the short form of Bruininks-Oseretsky Test 2 of Motor Proficiency (BOT-2 SF). The SES scale was used to measure SES of children's families. IBM SPSS (Statistical Package for the Social Science; IBM Corp, Armonk, NY, USA) release 22 for Microsoft Windows was used for all statistical analyses. Results: The results of this study revealed non...

A child motor development and body mass index are determinant aspects yet important predictors for other aspect of development. However, both of them are also influenced by other factors, including the parents’ socioeconomic status. Therefore, this study was aimed at finding out the relationship between parents’ socioeconomic status with the children’ motor development and body mass index, especially for the children living in rural area. The study was an ex-post facto study. The study used Ages and Stages Questionnaire (ASQ) 3rd Edition to measure the children motor development and Instrument (Scale) for Measuring the Socioeconomic Status of a Family Questionnaire to measure the socioeconomic status of the parents. The children body mass index were calculated from the height and weight. The study involved 64 children as the participants. However, only 53 data of the children that were eligible to be analyzed after the data cleaning process was conducted. The data were analyzed by u...
Developmental Characteristics of Preschool Aged Girls from Different Urban Areas

Human growth and development are under the influence of both genetic and environmental factors. Longitudinal and transversal dimensions of skeleton are, to a large extent, genetically determined contrary to circular dimensions, body weight and skin fold. The aim of this research was to determine developmental differences between the girls from Vranje and Užice. This research was conducted in kindergartens of Vranje and Užice. The sample comprised 136 girls, 72 of whom were 5 (+ eight months) years of age from Užice, and 64 of whom were 5 (+ seven months) years of age from Vranje. We used standardized instruments to measure the anthropometric characteristics, according to the methodology recommended by the International Biological Program (Weiner & Lourie, 1981). The average height of the girls from Vranje is 118, 6±5, 37 cm, and of the girls from Užice 119, 4±5, 46 cm. The girls from Užice were taller than those from Vranje, but the difference in height is not statistically significant. The results have shown that there is statistically significant difference in leg length. The average leg length of the girls from Vranje is 63,2±4,55cm, and those from Užice 64,7±3,96 cm. The girls from Vranje have greater pelvic width than the girls from Užice, which is statistically significant. We have not observed statistically significant differences concerning other measured anthropometric variables.
