Technology for Teaching and Learning: Moodle as a Tool for Higher Education

Many Canadian Educational Psychology classes currently emphasize and model constructivist teaching practices in addition to integrating the notion of connectivity and Web 2.0 into educational theory. This study examines 'Moodle 1 ' as a technological tool to further enhance participation and performance in addition to the regularly used 'semiotic tools' and social-dialogical activities found in a teacher education program. Similarly, discourse and narrative are described as a mode of thinking, as a structure for organizing our knowledge, and as a vehicle in the process technology and higher education. How can a program of learning be assisted with structuring the delivery and organization of knowledge?

Learning Management System -Moodle: Impact on Teacher Educators

Learning Management Systems (LMS) have been extensively accepted by higher education institutions universally for over a decade. Educational organisations now spend a significant proportion of their resources on installing and maintaining these systems. This expenditure continues to increase, raising questions as to whether LMS in educational organisations are fulfilling their potential. Learning Management Systems are now installed in the majority of higher education institutions. These web-based LMS are proposed to support teaching and learning activities. They consist of various features that enable teacher educators to share learning materials as well as providing interaction with their students both synchronously and asynchronously (Vovides et al. 2007). The most widely adopted LMS are Blackboard, Sakai, KEWL, and Moodle (Unwin et al. 2010). The research paper focuses on the LMS Moodle. Institutions use the LMS to supplement traditional face-to-face delivery where teacher educators develop and share digital learning materials via the Internet. In this case, the LMS are used as an electronic repositories of learning materials (Vovides et al. 2007). Institutions especially those offering distance education, have been combining LMS with traditional face-to-face delivery in order to reach more learners across various geographical boundaries (Andersson & Grönlund 2009). In light of these benefits, the adoption of LMS by higher education institutions has continued to increase in recent years. With the continued increase of LMS in recent years, this paper researches by suggesting strategies that can help teacher educators make more effective use of LMS.

Moodle as a Support Tool in Higher Education.Academic Authorities Opinion

Supporting Teachers in Higher Education for Didactic Use of the Learning Environment Moodle

2019

Technology is becoming an important element of the pedagogical process at all levels of education. Regardless of its prevalence, many teachers are not able to take advantage of all the opportunities offered by technology. Knowledge of functionalities available in online learning environments and of their proper didactic use is vital for the launch to the pedagogical process. Within the project "Digital UL With Innovative Use of ICT to Excellence", we launched two online courses, where university teachers and colleagues became acquainted with the possibilities, activities, and plug-ins that are part of the learning environment Moodle, which is the most widely adopted tool for sharing learning materials with the support for collaboration. The first online course was intended for participants with little or no experiences with the use of Moodle, and the other for participants who already had some experience with this online environment and wanted to learn about advanced activ...

Graduate Students Opinions on Learning Management Systems the Moodle LMS – a Case Study of EMU

Over the years, e-learning is gradually integrated with the traditional classroom learning style and more ways to improve on this is being produced. Amongst which is being majorly today is the learning management system (LMS). One significant problem is that students do not effectively use the functionalities which are available by this learning management systems or may rather concentrate on some particular component of the LMS, for some various reasons which this research aims to identify. The aim of this study is to investigate Computer and Instructional Technology Teacher Education (CITE) graduate students’ views and opinions related to LMS using Moodle. The research was carried out in the CITE department faculty of education, Eastern Mediterranean University (EMU) Northern Cyprus. This research is a case study with mixed method approach. 30 master students participated, both close ended questionnaire and a focus group interview was conducted. The data analyzed revealed that students check Moodle regularly for updates on course contents, announcements, discussion. Moodle enhances learning and also students are generally satisfied with Moodle as a way to manage their learning process, thus more effort needs to be made on the instructors in engaging all the components of the Moodle system for effective learning and usage.

Sustainability of a Moodle-Based Learning Management System (LMS) Based on Post-graduate Students’ Perspectives

2022

The outbreak of this virus has an impact of a nation and Globally (Ningrum et al, 2020). The presence of Covid-19 as a pandemic certainly has an economic, social and psychological impact on society (Saleh and Mujahiddin, 2020). Covid 19 pandemic caused all efforts not to be as maximal as expected (Sihombing and Nasib, 2020). After its initial appearance, the Covid-19 epidemic quickly spread to a truly global scale. While the virus's social spread raises concerns about the long-term viability of faceto-face education, a quick overview of the virus's growth provides context for how it has transformed teaching-learning and impacted student-teacher interactions (Alturki & Aldraiweesh, 2021). As a result of the epidemic, universities were forced to conduct all student teaching and learning online. The necessity of using technology for educational purposes during the pandemic for the sake of education as a long-term solution is also unavoidable; some recent reports have brought this issue to light (Kerres, 2020). One of the technologies used during Covid-19 is the Learning Management System (LMS), which is a media integration for instructions that makes use of a single platform to coordinate communication processes during instructional events. Innovating technology networks like Edmodo, Google Classroom, Forum, EdX, MOOC and Coursera, as well as specialized education, use LMS as sustainability platforms. LMS can range from computer-managed learning to interactive LMS. The implications of modern information technology are growing rapidly, and information and communication technologies (ICTs) are becoming increasingly common in universities, particularly in the educational process. The depths of new and innovative technologies continue to grow. The design of higher education course content, as well as online exposure to it, is a new trend. Technological advancements are increasing at an alarming rate from time to time and are being used in a wide range of activities through the

Developing an Optimized Utilization Framework of Moodle Learning Management System in Selected Higher Education Establishments in Cameroon

2022

ABSTRACT Most universities in Cameroon face many educational problems and obstacles that technology can help to overcome. An open-source, such as Moodle e-learning platform, has been implemented at many Cameroonian universities. Moodle could be used as an aid to deliver e-content and to provide various possibilities for implementing asynchronous eLearning web-based modules. The study examines the influence of interactive features of Moodle to increase the motivation of the students for the learning process. The intrinsic and extrinsic features of Moodle learning management system and how these features motivate students to use an e-learning portal, which subsequently influences their perceived learning effectiveness and academic performance are examined. The theoretical underpinning of motivation theory, self-determination theory (SDT), and cognitive evaluation theory (CET) are used to guide this study. To achieve this, a mixed-method research method approach was designed to address the corresponding research objectives. A non-probability sampling technique was used with a sample size of 380 respondents drawn from selected universities in the Center region that are have been using Moodle learning management platform for more than 3 years. Semi-structured questionnaires and focused group discussions were used to source relevant data required for the study. The quantitative data were collected and analyzed using multilevel analyses by employing statistical packages such as SPSS version 25 and AMOS version 24. Focus Group Discussions (FGD) were used to collect qualitative data, which was then analyzed using grounded theory. The results from the inferential analysis revealed that Assignment Modules features (AMF) and Student’ Motivation (SM) has a positive significant effect on the perceived learning effectiveness of using Moodle, whereas, Communication Module Features have a negative significant statistical effect on the perceived learning effectiveness of using the Moodle. Results of the qualitative research method using grounded theory show that most of the remarkable challenges that students face when using the Moodle platform emanate from poor internet connectivity, power outage, and finance issues. Given the importance of Moodle and other LMS in terms of Online and teaching implementations in higher education institutions in Cameroon, it is recommended that the university administration should invest in ensuring that the students and academics are properly trained on how to use all functions of MOODLE so they can understand how beneficial MOODLE is for them.
