The study analyses the information behavior of students and research scholars in the six teaching and research departments of the Faculty of Arts in the University of Kerala. Data were collected through a self-designed questionnaire comprising 25 close-ended and one open-ended questions-distributed amongst a random sample of the population. Various aspects of information behavior such as library usage, including frequency of visiting the library, time spent during a visit, types of print and digital resources consulted, preference towards freely accessible resources such as Google Scholar, JSTOR, and Research Gate, and the limitations they feel with respect to searching and accessing digital resources are covered in the study. Lack of adequate information skills, shortage of materials, scatter of information among various types of sources, difficulties in adopting appropriate search strategies while accessing databases, and the prescription of fees for internet access in some of the libraries in the university library system etc are pointed out as problems faced by the students.

This paper is an attempt to understand and evaluate the use library facility and resources among research scholar in GGU, further examines in detail access and awareness, the predominant use of information resources and identify the barriers in use of library facilities and resources by research scholars. Survey method was follow to collect data. A total of 140 structured questionnaires were distributed to users and out of which 116 questionnaires were duly obtained with a response rate of 82.85%. A stratified accidental random sample method was used for selection of respondents. In this paper we found that majority of respondents 31.03% visit the library daily and 29.31% respondents visit the library once in a week, 65.52% e-journals are frequently used by research scholar and also 67.24 % of the research scholar expressed that the library has updated books are not available. It seems that library should subscribe a number of e-resources, such as e-journals, online databases, and print journals to fulfill the demand of the research scholars in their area of interest.

Use of Library Resources and Services by Karnatak University Research Scholars: A case Study

Major aim of any university library is to support teaching, learning and research activities of its parent institutions, university library must therefore make sure that their resources are fine use of by its users. The study has been conducted to know the available information sources in the Karnataka university library and its usage pattern among the research scholars in different faculties in several Departments of the University. The study shows that how the usage of the information resources changing from print to e-resources and more users are eager to use electronic resources. For this study hypothesis was set and various statistical methods like chi-square test, etc., were used.
This research study state the various aspects relating to information needs, information seeking behaviour and use of electronic resources by research scholars and faculties in the university and research libraries of Odisha. The data were collected from faculties and research scholars of 9 traditional universities and 3 research institutions. A total of 600 questionnaires were distributed randomly in the different departments of universities and research institutions, as well as among the users who visited the library, over a period of eight months during the January to August of the year 2014. Out of 600 questionnaires, 464 questionnaires duly filled up were returned to the researchers resulting to 77.33% response rate. The data collected were properly analysed with different statistical tools and at the end findings have been incorporated. Information is an extremely complex task involving the interaction among users, the information need, and the information resources. The heterogeneous environment which users confront in academic libraries today increases the complexity, as not only the format of information, but also the number of resources seems to grow exponentially. Acknowledging the significance of information in national development, (Wasserman, 1991) noted " it is not an accident that the developed nations are those in which information products & services have been brought into being through computer intervention. " Members of a society acquire the needed information from a variety of sources. However, several of these sources are expensive, complex or difficult for individuals to acquire and use. Therefore, the role of libraries becomes vital in meeting the information needs of individuals in the society. In order to accomplish this task effectively, libraries must have a thorough understanding of information needs and information seeking behavior of users. With the progress of civilizations and the advancement of science & technology, the compounded global store of intellectual capital has tremendously increased & the media of communication of accumulated intellectual capital of the world has expanded. The vast and increasing mass of knowledge & information is being enshrined not only in books & serials, but also in technical & scientific reports, patents, standards and specifications, transactions, trade circulars, reprints, off-prints, micro documents & photocopies etc. The term 'Information' has been derived from the Latin words 'Forma' & 'Formatio'. The paper aims to find out the information seeking behavior of research scholars of Babasaheb Bhimrao Ambedkar University, Lucknow. A well defined questionnaire was used to collect data. The major findings of the study shows that r esearch scholars seek information for updating knowledge, research work and preparing articles for seminar and workshops. Scholars of BBAU feel more comfortable by asking teachers or friends and consulting library catalogue than asking to library staffs for accessing library resources. Research scholars are facing problems in using of old materials 50 (35.71%) and unavailable 28 (27.4%) of required materials in the library. This study investigates the information use pattern of postgraduate students of New Arts, Commerce, and Science College Wardha, Maharashtra. Academic libraries must understand the information needs of students, research scholars and faculty member in order to meet those needs. This study examines the kinds of academic information needed by postgraduate students, which information resources they require, methods for locating information and level of satisfaction of library collection, services and facilities. The descriptive survey method was used and data was gathered via questionnaires from 60 postgraduate students.
Information usage studies are like part of library professionals from the twentieth century to identify the effective usage of information resources available in their libraries. This study investigates the information use pattern by the research scholars and faculty members of Agricultural Science universities in Karnataka. A well structured questionnaire has been formulated and distributed among the research scholars and faculty members of Agricultural Sciences universities in Karnataka in order to ascertain the information use pattern, i.e. frequency of library visits, purpose of a visit to the library, purpose of use of information sources, use of electronic resources, frequency of use of e-resources and preferred file formats. The outcome and suggestions of the study would be beneficial for them to take appropriate measures to improve their information use pattern.
