Introduction: Coal-fired power plants contribute to air pollution emissions of nearly one-third of global SO 2 , 14 % of NO x , and 5 % of PM 2.5. This condition could worsen adults' respiratory health who live close to power plants; WHO estimates that COPD and LRTI cause around 18% of premature deaths related to outdoor air pollution. This literature review aims to conduct a systematic review of the health impacts of coal-fired power plant emissions on adults' respiratory systems and explore what risk factors lead to decreased lung status. Also, to answer how risk factors influence decreased lung function in adults' respiratory system from coal-fired power plants' emissions. Discussion: This study used a literature study method using an online database to of various research data sources with the same topic. The searching of articles was performed based on the inclusion criteria. From an initial collection of 468 articles, after screening and considering its feasibi...
Assault of Coal-Fired Thermal Power Plant on Pulmonary Health of School Boys Aged 7 To 15 Years
2015
With the advancing of civilization demand for electricity generation increases gradually. Coal-fired thermal power plants are the major contributors of electricity. Among power plants, coal-fired power plants produce most serious air pollution. Children are more susceptible to it. Therefore this study was planned to assess the pulmonary health status of school going boys aged 7-15 years living in the vicinity of thermal power plant. Subjects were divided into two groups: experimental(living within 5km radius from power plant) and control ( living more than 25km away from power plant) group. Anthropometric parameters such as height and weight were measured and body mass index and body surface area were derived. The lung function parameters studied were FVC, FEV1, PEFR and FEF25-75%.Spirometric findings suggest that living within vicinity of a coal-fired thermal power plant can result in obstructive lung disease as there is significant reduction of FVC, FEV1 and PEFR. Both asthma and ...

People are vulnerable to health risks due to particulate matter generated through the coal combustion processes. The air pollution due to the thermal power plant is a primary concern among all sources of pollution. The air pollution due to the coal-fired thermal power plant is a primary concern among all the different sources of pollution. The air quality (suspended particulate matter; SPM) modeling in the study area of central India was carried out using CALAUFF model. In addition, real-time air monitoring of particulate matter PM1, PM2.5 and PM10 was carried out in the study area. Real-time air quality monitoring data showed higher concentration of particulate matter (PM1 and PM2.5) at different locations in the study area, exceeding the regulatory limits set by NAAQS (National Ambient Air Quality Standards) and WHO (World Health Organization). Considering the most probable health impacts due to coal-fired thermal power plant, diseases such as chronic upper respiratory tract infec...

The cases of ARI increase every year after the active operation of the industry. This research aims to explore a description of ARI trends in the high risk zone of exposure to coal smoke of the electric steam power plant (ESPP)/PLTU Nagan Raya. The research method was a combination of cross sectional and phenomology designs. The sample research was 50 people with the criteria for residence 0-50 km from ESPP Nagan Raya with high risk area zone exposure, whilst the technical sample was purposive sampling. The results of this research found an increasing trend for ARI as many as 10% / month during 2019-2020. Chi square test showed P value = 0,000 in which the intrepretation was relationship suspected smoke exposure with symptoms of ARI. Based on in-depth interviews with the community, they experienced respiratory complaints due to the smoke from the ESPP during the establishment of the company, they also complained that their polluted soil and plants were not grown well. To conclude, t...
Health Effects of Coal Plant among Nearby Residents
2020
Coal burning has been the most common and easiest source of electricity generation in the Philippines over the century. There is a need of proper medical and psychological attention as it integrates unusual health threats to humankind, especially the nearby residents This study determined the health effects of coal plant among nearby residents in Batangas. Specifically, it determined the awareness of residents in the effects of coal plant. It identified the effects relative to health status; and finally, reviewed the existing policy and enhance/propose revision based on the results. This study used mixed method that combines the qualitative and quantitative approaches. The health hazards and poor air quality caused by the coal plant affects some of the residents around it. Proximity to the source of pollution and smouldering combustion typical of coal mine fires increase the risk of community exposure to high concentrations of known toxins such as aerosolised particles, and products...
