Eigenspectra optoacoustic tomography achieves quantitative blood oxygenation imaging deep in tissues (original) (raw)
Eigenspectra Multispectral Optoacoustic Tomography (eMSOT) introduces a novel approach to overcoming the challenges of light fluence variation in tissue, which hinders accurate imaging of blood oxygenation levels (sO2). The method utilizes a new principle that describes light fluence dependency as an affine function, allowing high-accuracy, non-invasive imaging of sO2 deep within tissues, demonstrating up to a ten-fold improvement over conventional spectral methods. eMSOT has been validated through extensive simulations and experimental measurements, illustrating its capability to reveal detailed tissue physiology patterns and its potential significance in assessing conditions like cancer hypoxia.
