Analysis of Entrepreneurship Development in Agriculture among
The study was on entrepreneurship development in agriculture among arable crop farmers in Imo State, Nigeria. Sixty households entrepreneurs were selected using multi-stage random sampling techniques. Well structured questionnaire was the main tool for data collection. Data collected were analyzed using descriptive statistical tools and 3-point likert scale rating of highly, moderately and low. Mean age was 42.11years. Majority (76.33%) were males. Greater proportions (71.67%) were married with an average household size of 5.0 persons. Farmers cultivated on an average farm size of 1.61Ha. Average annual farm income was N118,392.00 ($789.28). Reasonable proportion of the farmers identified personal intension, wanting autonomy and displacement/disruption in life as the key drive to entrepreneurship development in the area. Entrepreneurship enterprises have been invaluable to farmers in the area. However, farmers complained of poor access to entrepreneurship information, inadequate start-up capital and long distance between farms and market in the area. Despite this shortcomings farmers perceived their extent of entrepreneurship drive and participation as been high (X=4.50). It was therefore recommended that effective and adequate entrepreneurship policies and programmes should be developed for farmers while urgently addressing the negative factors that hinder its growth and development in the area. Fostering entrepreneurship education at all levels to ensure capacity building for diverse enterprises in agriculture was also advocated. Ultimately, government at all levels and private’s sector support fund is necessary to enhance entrepreneurship spirit and development among farmers in the area and beyond.

Even though research has proven beyond all reasonable doubt that entrepreneurship can boost the economy of many nations, this has not been true for many due to the challenges which impede entrepreneurship programmes in both farm and non-farm sectors. A study was therefore conducted with the aim of analyzing these constraints. An interview schedule was used to collect information from 120 entrepreneurs, (60 farm and 60 non-farm entrepreneurs). Result shows that the mean age of farm entrepreneurs was 38 years whereas the mean age for non-farm entrepreneurs was 28 years. In RUDSETI farm sector, more than three-fifths (66.6%) of the entrepreneurs had an annual income of less than 1 lakh whereas, in the non-farm sector, half (50.0%) of the entrepreneurs had an annual income of more than 3 lakh. Similarly in KVK, farm sector, close to half (46.7%) of the entrepreneurs had an annual income of more than 3 lakhs whereas in the non-farm sector close to half (46.7%) of the entrepreneurs had an annual income of 1-2 lakh. In RUDSETI farm and non-farm sector, all (100.0%) and half (50.0%) of the entrepreneurs had 1-3 years of entrepreneurial experience respectively. Similarly in KVK farm and non-farm sectors, 53.3 per cent and 76.7 per cent of the entrepreneurs had an entrepreneurial experience of 1-3 years respectively. The diagnostic test indicated the absence of collinearity issues while post-estimation test of CFA indicated good fitness of the model and reliability and validity of data. The results of the research show that EB of as initiation and innovativeness, household head’s years of schooling and the amount credit in the counter-season improved farm performance by reducing PHLs. Land size , farm assets values and access to model farms improved farm per...

The broad objective of community empowerment programs is to eradicate poverty. In general, the image of the poor lives in rural areas and mostly farmers. Similarly, the farmers in South Sumatra province which mostly managed wetlands as their livelihood are poor, especially in the districts of Ogan Ilir (OI) and Ogan Komering Ilir (OKI). In fact, the targets of programs which have been done by the government in order to improve the economic development of rural communities mostly were not achieved; therefore, the programs were not unsustainable. The solution proposed to solve the above problem is to improve institutional capacity building of farmers and farmer groups aimed at improving the competitiveness of farmers in developing agribusiness system. In 2008, The Government of Indonesia through the Ministry of Agriculture launched the Rural Agribusiness Development Program (PUAP). PUAP is a community empowerment which is realized in the form of venture capital strengthening assistance for farmer group’s members. Operationally, distribution of PUAP fund is done by giving authority to the farmer group association that was selected to the implement the PUAP program. The purpose of this study is to analyze the role of farmer group institution in increasing the income percentage of wetland-based farmers who used the PUAP funds in South Sumatera. This study used survey method and purposive sampling method. Samples of 200 farmers who received PUAP funds were taken systematically and randomly. Data collected were analyzed by using the SPSS Multiple Linear Regression Analysis. The results showed that the institution influenced in increasing the percentage of revenue due to PUAP/Main Revenue (IPRP/MR). The income of 45% of PUAP fund recipients increased by 100%-200%; as much as 41.5% increased less 100%; and as much as 13.5% increased by 200%-316%.There are three types of financial management involved, namely Farmers Group Association (49.5%), Micro-Finance Institutions (25.5%) and Farmer Group (25%).The multiple correlation values obtained at 0.783, these values indicate a close positive relationship between the independent variable to IPRP/MR. The value of the coefficient of determination (Adjusted R2) is 0.600. The adjusted R2 of 0.600 indicates that the model can explain the variation of existing data by 60% due to IPRP/MR. The result of F-test (simultaneously) showed a positive and significant influence of institutional factors on IP2R/MR Results of t-test (partially) indicated that the institutional factors Duration of Joining Farmer Groups and Finance Institution (Micro-Finance Ins.) and (Famer’s Group Association) gave a positive and significant influence, while the Finance Institution (Farmer Group) and Farmer Organization gave negative and significant influence to IPRP/MR.
