Online Education And Students’ Wellbeing During Covid-19 Pandemic
International Journal of Private Higher Education
The primary purpose of this study is to analyse students' opinions on the effects of online education during the pandemic on students' well-being. The unprecedented world scenario that the students have been dealing with may delineate their academic performances and state of well-being to a great extent and subsequently make it a substantial challenge for researchers and practitioners. In addition to the prevailing adverse circumstances due to the pandemic in the educational sector, the stern measures taken by the UK government to avoid spreading the coronavirus also added to the adverse effect on HE students' well-being in England during the autumn back in 2020. It is evident that the pandemic enforced the drastic digital adjustment among Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) across the globe and pushed educational institutions to prioritise remote learning. For example, Oxford Business College (OBC), one of the leading independent (private) HEI in the UK was enforced all campus closures and made digital transformation a substantially more fundamental tactical precedence specifically for core learning among students. The foremost aim of the present research was to examine how online learning mode affected students' well-being at OBC and the variables contributing to students' opinions. A quantitative research design was adopted, and RStudio was used to analyse the data (N=944). The multi-nominal regression yielded significant results. It was found that online education at OBC did not impact students' well-being negatively, and variables such as gender, awareness of 'no detriment policy' and 'student hardship funds', general health, type of work, and positive measures of UK government significantly contributed to participants' opinions. In conclusion, OBC created a constructive online learning environment during the pandemic, leading students to appreciate digital education and maintain a positive sense of well-being. Furthermore, it is suggested that academic institutions should identify more relevant and interpretable underlying factors that could explain the enduring effects of the pandemic on student well-being.

March 2020 brought a considerable change into the lives of millions of people: working, learning and many other elements of every day routine moved to the online space. Although, since the launching of the multitude of MOOCs (massive open online courses) offered by entities like Khan Academy, edX, Coursera and others, the idea of home office and even of online education has not been completely new, there still is a basic difference between the alternative, facultative aspect of these facilities and the regular character forced by the Covid-19 pandemic. Home schooling, remote education have become the new normality including both advantages and drawbacks. While there is a general consent upon the ineffectiveness of home schoolingat least regarding Romania-, is this valid for tertiary education, too, or could online education offer some perspectives for future academic instruction? Having this in mind, we conducted a research at the Faculty of Economic Sciences of the University of Oradea, Romania, covering the period of online education from March 2020 to June 2021, trying to find an answer to questions like: could the advantages (flexibility in time and space management, broader accessibility cancelling space limits, partial reduction of requirements at least regarding attendance) be materialised in a higher level of attending activities and a lower rate of school abandonment; is online education efficient and to the liking of generation Z; could they, as digital natives, imagine to move online for their studies? Starting from certain hypotheses covering the aforementioned aspects we applied two research methods: a quantitative one (statistical inventory based on the data offered by the education platform of the institution, distance.iduoradea.ro, used in the time span March-September 2020, and e.uoradea.ro used as from October 2020, survey among the students) and a qualitative one (interview with the students). For a larger view upon things regarding students' attitude towards and reception of online education and its future perspectives, we conducted an extended research including two more Romanian academic institutions (Babeș-Bólyai University, Cluj and the Academy for Economic Studies, Bucharest)however with very modest resultsand two Hungarian ones (University of Debrecen,

Background and Objectives: The COVID-19 pandemic has had a global impact at the social, economic, cultural, and political levels. Education is one of the areas that experienced a sudden change during the COVID-19 pandemic that affected both students and teachers worldwide. Thus, the aim of our research was to analyze the educational, emotional, and social impact of the period of the emergency state (16 March 2020–15 May 2020) imposed by the COVID-19 pandemic on Romanian university students. Materials and Methods: We conducted a questionnaire-based survey among Romanian university students at the national level. Results: Our study showed that students accepted online education only as a form of compromise in relation to the epidemiological situation. However, they were affected by the diminished contact with the university and their colleagues and the lack of a regular routine. Emotionally, the participants experienced feelings of loneliness, panic, fear, aggressiveness, and intolera...

The aim of this study is to identify changes in the daily activities, attitudes and behaviors of undergraduate students attending at Ankara Yıldırım Beyazıt University in the isolation process of the Covid-19 pandemic in our country, as well as revealing their thoughts about online education, which is an education model that the majority have not experienced before. 573 students participated in the study in which the exploratory research model was applied. In the study, first of all descriptive statistics were obtained with descriptive analyzes on the answers given by the students to the variables. Then, live connections were made on the internet at different times with approximately 10 students and their opinions about the expressions in the questionnaire were examined. As a result of the research, it was determined that the students spent the most personal care and hygiene, as well as home hygiene, in their activities including daily life routines during the Covid-19 isolation process. During the Covid-19 pandemic isolation process, the highest increase in changes in students' attitudes and behaviors was observed in interest in initiatives for aid and in disputes and discussions at home. When the students' perceptions of online education were examined, it was concluded that online education reduced their motivation to follow the lesson and to listen. It has been concluded that university students, who were born into the digital world, become more dependent on the virtual world during the pandemic isolation process and pay more attention to their hygiene. It is thought that this study contributes to the literature by revealing the defense mechanism developed by young people in extraordinary situations by taking shelter in hygiene to protect their physical health and in the virtual world to protect their psychological health. In addition, it was determined that online education, which was tried for the first time on such a large scale, reduces students' motivation to follow lessons and their perception of deep content, and therefore, online education cannot be an alternative to face-to-face education yet, is another contribution of this study.

The COVID-19 pandemic has disrupted normal activities such as going to school, moving education online. Based on data gathered through a survey (N = 784), this paper analyses students’ perceptions regarding the effectiveness of online education in a period when this type of education is the only available option. Although several studies suggest that online education can be as effective as traditional education which requires attendance, few studies have focused on learner satisfaction with online instruction, particularly in the transition to online learning from traditional approaches. The results indicate that students react differently to online education, and their reaction is based on their proficiency in using online tools, their ability to technically access online courses, and the instructors’ manner in conducting learning activities.

Following an unprecedented situation of confinement due to the Covid-19 pandemic, academic institutions were called to focus on supporting telecommunications technologies. For the first time, Higher Education went completely online. The authors of this research conducted an online voluntary survey where Greek students could answer questions about the distance education, they had experienced during the Covid-19 lockdown, particularly of the synchronous type. The purpose of this research was to investigate the major issues that created impediments to the students, both the technical barriers that made it difficult to communicate, and the teaching/learning challenges raised because of emerging trends. Recognizing the main problems that arose in the educational process during the lockdown period leads to a better communication in the future in the field of distance education. The students were informed about the research by the Student Counseling Center of their universities but also via posts on well-known student content websites. The research results have shown that most students attended synchronous communication online classes (the theoretical and the practical ones) in replacement of their face-to-face lessons. The students pointed out some negative aspects of online education concerning synchronous communication educational practices, but also how their classes were organized and presented. They referred to the main technical difficulties that occurred-on the part of the teacher-preventing a satisfactory communication, as to the practices that stressed them or to the lack of communication between students and teachers they experienced during the lockdown. Nevertheless, despite these problems, most students are interested in continuing online learning in combination with traditional courses in a classroom. Overall, this study provided important, additional information in respect of the students' perceptions towards online education during the first quarantine.

Vastly changed schooling arrangements due to the COVID-19 crisis have generally limited the opportunities and resources for schools to provide necessary psychological and other support to their students. Given this, all parties involved in the schooling system need to understand the kinds of experiences students have via distance learning and how students adapt to novel living and studying conditions. This study examines the relevant sources of stress that students encounter with regard to online classes, and the frustrations they face due to living in social isolation, as well as how these stressors relate to the measures of students’ emotional wellbeing and psychological adjustment. Data were collected in April 2020 via an online questionnaire administered to a sample of 4,492 students (62.6% female) attending all four grades of high school within two Croatian counties. The results point to the differential effects of particular aspects of online teaching practices on the stressfu...

Perceptions of Students from Northwestern Romania on Online Education during the Pandemic COVID-19
Asian Journal of Education and Social Studies, 2021
The current spatio-temporal context, in which the didactic activities in our country (Romania) are still carried out, is, beyond its form of social experiment, a form devoid of spiritual content. In the transition from classical to modern, through multimedia technologies, the interactions based on the teaching-learning-assessment activity are severely widowed by the physical lack of those closely involved in the educational system. In such a context, considered to be still cloudy, unsettled, the level of perception of those trained is questioned. Thus, through this study, our emphasis and attention fall on how online education is received, accepted, or not among Romanian students; for the study being interviewed only the students from the third year of study, from various specializations (technical and non-technical), aged over 21-22 years. This study took place between November 2020 and February 2021, on a sample of 463 students. Only students with whom the teachers had contact, wh...
