KNOWLEDGE AND ATTITUDE OF M.Ed. TRAINEES TOWARDS ENVIRONMENTAL SUSTAINABILITY
International Journal of Research -GRANTHAALAYAH, 2017
Environmental sustainability is a global concept today. It is an approach to deal with mans relationship with resources, pollution, conservation, technology and urban and rural planning to the bio-sphere. Today, our environment is polluted due to various anthropogenetic factors. Educators, scientists, environment specialists and policy makers are rapidly pointing towards the human activities responsible for the destruction of the environment. To get rid of this problem, firstly we have to make the citizens aware. It can be done possible by the teaching-society. Therefore, the investigators made an attempt to find out the knowledge and attitude of M.Ed. trainees towards environmental sustainability. The investigators developed two tools- KEST and SMATES which had reliability co-efficient by Cronbach s alpha 0.749 and 0.656 respectively and were administered on 112 M.Ed. trainees randomly selected from 4 selected teachers training colleges measuring their knowledge and attitude towa...
Development of attitude scale in the context of sustainable environmental education1
The rapid disappearance of natural resources and residential areas as a result of industrial and technological improvements necessitated precautions to be taken in this issue. In fact, the idea of sustainable development arose within this context. The notion of sustainable development, which started to gain importance specifically after the mid-1980s, was defined as "the development that meets the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs" in the 1987 Report of the World Commission on Environment and Development. Throughout time, this idea promptly tended towards the education of sustainable environment and became the contemporary dominant view. Therefore, environmental education is considered as a significant mean in the sustainable development. Within this context, the aim of this study is to develop a valid and reliable scale in order to determine teacher candidates' attitudes in relation to environment in the framework of sustainable environmental education. A pilot study was conducted with 400 teacher candidates who are studying in the programs of Social Sciences Education, Elementary Science Education and Primary Education in the Department of Elementary Education at the Ahi Evran University. As a result of exploratory factor analysis, it was found that the scale has 6 factors and the internal consistency coefficient is 0.904. production, public health, conservation and management of natural resources, social integration, demography and migration, global poverty" .

Problem statement: Recognizing the importance of 'Environmental Education' to be introduced in every level of school education, agencies responsible for curriculum reforms and text books preparation in India have made the subject as an integral part. It is felt necessary to investigate whether the teachers, who are disseminating the knowledge, are equipped with environmental attitude and the behavior towards environment so that they may shape up the behavior of their students. Thus, the present study is pertinent to be conducted over trainee teachers perusing B.Ed course intended to hone the skills for future profession and desirable criteria to be a 'School Teacher' to ascertain relationship of Responsible Environmental Behavior (REB) with Environmental Attitude (EA) and Scientific Attitude (SA). Approach: Present study involves descriptive survey research with a sample of 300 pupil teachers from randomly selecting four Teachers' training institute affiliated to University of Calcutta, India. Data is subjected to descriptive statistics, t-test, F-test as well as coefficient of correlation over pre-service and in-service pupil teachers belonging to Science; Commerce and Humanities streams of studies. Results: The result shows low correlation between EA and REB of pupil teachers while there is a significant correlation between REB and SA. Similarly, there are significant differences for both EA and REB between in-service and pre-service teachers whereas a significant effect of courses of study on EA is reported with no significant effect on REB of pupil teachers. Conclusion: The study suggests redesigning activities involved in teachers' training courses and assessing the determinant attitudes which may lead to responsible behavior of pupil teachers towards the green earth. The curriculum for teacher training should focus on developing scientific attitude irrespective of stream of affiliation of prospective teachers along with opening a field of research, eco-psychology, for further research.

The purpose of the current research on Attitude of Pre-Service and In-Service Teachers towards Sustainable Lifestyle is to generate, synthesize and share knowledge for better understanding, socialize and organize our daily life. It is now time to examine Sustainable Lifestyle of Pre-Service and In-Service Teachers because teachers are mostly responsible in generating awareness among the people and building a better future. Investigation of Pre-Service Science Teachers’ Attitudes towards Sustainable Environmental Education
Higher Education Studies, 2017
The purpose of the current study is to investigate pre-service science teachers' sustainable environmental education attitudes and the factors affecting them in terms of some variables (gender and grade level). The study group of the current research is comprised of 154 pre-service teachers attending the Department of Science Education in the Faculty of Education of Aksaray University. The study employed the descriptive survey method, one of the qualitative research methods. As the data collection tool, "The Sustainable Environmental Education Attitude Scale" developed by Afacan and Demirci Güler (2011) was used in the study. The Cronbach alpha reliability of the scale was calculated to be α=.93. In the statistical analysis of the data, SPSS was used. In the analysis of the data, Independent Samples t-Test and One Way ANOVA were run. The analysis results revealed that sustainable environmental education attitudes frequency of the pre-service teachers is at the medium level. It was also found that the sustainable environmental education attitudes of the pre-service teachers do not vary significantly by gender; yet, they were found to be varying significantly depending on the grade level variable. It can be suggested that further research can attempt to determine the attitudes of pre-service teachers from different branches and to analyze different factors affecting sustainable environmental education attitude.
Teachers' attitude towards education for sustainable development: A descriptive research
International Journal of Evaluation and Research in Education (IJERE), 2023
Teachers are the torch bearers of sustainable development, promoting social change and maintaining balance between two important concepts development and sustainability. They have a pivotal role in promoting education for sustainable development (ESD) perpetuating social change leading to progressive development and a futuristic growth in the society. ESD is one of the millennium development goals acknowledged globally and need to get practiced widely. Teachers play prominent role in inculcating the knowledge, spreading values, and enriching skills that are needed for sustainability to cope with the change in attributes of workplace. The central theme of the study was to determine the attitude of high school teachers concerning ESD. For this, the normative survey method (N=150) was used to collect data. The data were collected by an attitude scale entitled "ESD attitude scale". This investigation examined teachers' attitude towards ESD based on teachers' gender, subject of teaching, and type of management of the institution. To achieve the objectives of the study, itembased assessment with percentage analysis, t-values and F-values were calculated. Research findings showed that teachers have a favorable attitude towards ESD. Gender and management of the institution were not found to change attitudes towards ESD of high school teachers, whereas the subject of teaching was found to change the same. With these pieces of evidence from the present study, educationalists can reform the existing high school education system for sustainable development.
A Study on the Environmental Attitudes of Candidate Teachers
Mediterranean Journal of Humanities, 2014
This research aims to identify the environmental attitudes of fourth grade students of Niğde University Primary School Teaching, Science Teaching and Social Studies Teaching departments. For this purpose, the New Environmental Paradigm Scale was applied to 231 students of related departments. The parts of the scale are intended to assess the nature and human based attitudes of the candidate teachers. According to the finds it was confirmed that the nature based attitude levels of the candidate teachers are higher than their human based attitude levels. But the fact that the human based and nature based attitudes of the candidate teachers don't differ according to whether they took an environmental education course or not make it necessary to question the quality of the environmental education course provided by the Faculty of Education. As a consequence, inducing candidate teachers into a positive environmental attitude is regarded as necessary through applied and theoretically effective environmental education.
