Implementation of wireless remote monitoring and control of solar photovoltaic (PV) system
2012 Sixth IEEE/PES Transmission and Distribution: Latin America Conference and Exposition (T&D-LA), 2012
This paper describes the implementation of a wireless remote monitoring and control system of a solar photovoltaic distributed generator (PV-DG) for microgrids applications. To this aim, a small-scale PV-DG system is implemented using a 1.28 kWp assembly of PV polycrystalline modules connected to a single-phase utility grid through a commercial inverter. Then, a flexible, robust and reliable measurement and control system based on wireless sensor network (WSN) architecture is deployed. The wireless communication technology utilizes a full duplex digital system using the ZigBee protocol, based on the IEEE 802.
Wireless Monitoring System For Photovoltaic Generation With Graphical User Interface
International Journal of Scientific & Technology Research, 2020
Monitoring Photovoltaic (PV) parameters is very important to see the performance of a PV in producing electrical energy. The energy produced from PV is greatly determined by changes in solar radiation and temperature from PV. The energy produced will vary according to the level of solar radiation and temperature changes. Monitoring in real conditions is required to improve reliability, evaluation, implementation and costs. Aside from that, the description of the characteristics obtained is also useful for determining the design of PV installation configurations and the determination of control algorithms to match the load requirements. So that the electric energy produced can be maximized and the efficiency of PV can be increased. This paper describes a technique for monitoring PV parameters (current and voltage generated and temperature on PV) using wireless nRF24L01 as a communication device between PV and PC as host. PV parameter monitoring uses the ACS712 current sensor, the vol...
Wireless Monitoring and Remote Control of PV Systems Based on the ZigBee Protocol
IFIP Advances in Information and Communication Technology 349 AICT, pp. 297-304, 2011
Systems that convert the sunlight into electrical energy like photovoltaics (PV) have been becoming widespread worldwide. The prospect of using the promising technology of wireless sensor networks (WSN) in the field of PV plant supervising and monitoring is studied here. The knowledge of the status and good working condition of each PV module separately as well as of any PV system component will lead in a more efficient way for power management. The nature of the wireless sensor networks (WSN) offers several advantages on monitoring and controlling applications over other traditional technologies including self-healing, self-organization and flexibility. The versatility, ease of use and reliability of a mesh network topology offered by the ZigBee technology that is based on the IEEE 802.15.4 standard, is used here to offer its maximum advantages on a system that is capable for real time measurements and event alerts.
Experimental Analysis and Monitoring of Photovoltaic Panel Parameters
International Journal of Advanced Computer Science and Applications, 2023
In this article, we establish a technique based on the internet of things to simultaneously monitor the main values that characterize a photovoltaic solar panel. This technique allows to discover the problems and the monstrosities during the operation. This study also allows to collect the parameters and quantities measured for analysis. This method is based on exploiting the advantages of IoT technology. For this it will be a good choice to use and exploit the Esp32 microcontroller, because the two WIFI and Bluetooth modules are integrated. The design process began by creating a system to measure the intensity of the electric current delivered by the photovoltaic panel. A current sensor was implemented for this purpose. To prevent damage to the microcontroller, a voltage divider was proposed to decrease the voltage at the pin level of the Esp32 for measurement. Next, the power and energy values were calculated to estimate the production capacity. In the final stage, a lowpower Bluetooth link was created to transmit the four quantities to a smartphone or other compatible device. Real-time values were presented as graphs on the free ThingSpeak platform and displayed on both, an LCD screen and the serial monitor of the Esp32 microcontroller. The system was tested without any problems or errors.

In this paper we have developed a data logging and monitoring system, we validated the system by comparing the result from it with the existing one and found that the system performs slightly better than the existing work in the same area. This implies that the data logger and monitoring system is good and can be used to monitor solar energy variables even at the comfort of our homes. We fitted a model to the generated data and found that the meteorological variables considered accounted for 99.88% of the power output in the rainy seasons while 0.12% of the variation was not explained due to other factors. Solar panels inclined at an angle of 5 0 (Tilt) and facing South Pole perform optimally.
Energy Efficient Wireless Performance Monitoring System For Solar Panel
For a PV array, system monitoring is considered important to analyze the stability and performance. The simple monitoring system involves a data logging system with wired cables for transmitting data. Removing all those drawbacks observed in the existing system this proposed work is designed for the wireless monitoring of photovoltaic cell as a high precision solar array monitoring system. It is planned to measure the basic PV array characteristics like Module Temperature (T), Open Circuit Voltage (Voc), Short Circuit Current (Isc) and wirelessly transmit the data into real time GUI in the computer. The GUI was developed using the PROCESSING software. The commercially available WPAN hardware module ZigBee is used for implementation with API protocol for exchanging information. A sensor node with XBee and a set of analog sensors (eliminating the use of controllers at the sensor node) for measuring current and voltage generated in the PV array has been deployed. A coordinator node with Atmel microcontroller and Xbee connected with a PC to analyze the parameters.
Monitoring and data analysis of a PV system connected to a grid for home applications
Solar Energy Materials and Solar Cells, 2001
Monitoring of a PV system connected to a grid was conducted to collect the system performance and compared to a PV stand-alone system. Daily solar inputs and load outputs for home applications of the two systems were recorded. Balance and surplus of energy in the systems were observed during dry and summer seasons when high solar radiation was recorded. During the raining season, with thunderstorms, solar radiation was low and grid cut-o! occasionally occurred. Consequently, energy de"ciencies and grid back-up of the systems were observed. It was found that the battery size of the PV system connected to the grid was reduced by a factor of 0.5}0.7 compared to the PV stand-alone counterpart for similar load behaviors. The merits of the PV system connected to the grid during grid cut-o! was con"rmed; the system proved to be appropriate for tropical countries where unstable electricity supply from the grid can occur during monsoon season.
A Study on Operation of Photovoltaic Grid System Using Weather Forecast
2011 Third International Conference on Intelligent Networking and Collaborative Systems, 2011
In keeping with green IT, we propose reusing obsolete older-model PCs as a grid to create a high performance environment consisting of ordinary PCs. However, such a grid has continuous energy requirements, which is undesirable in terms of environmental concerns, due to the increased CO2 emissions from generating the required electricity. Therefore, this study aims to realize a grid powered by solar power to overcome the disadvantage, while reusing obsolete older model PCs. In this paper, we propose a means of operating a grid system powered by photovoltaics using weather reports to operate the system effectively and validate the proposal through simulations.
Real-Time Monitoring System Using IoT for Photovoltaic Parameters
TEM Journal
The monitoring performance of the photovoltaic system in real time is required for estimation and optimization purposes. This monitoring system has been the subject of extensive research, but in general it employs costly commercial software and as well as other license-based software. This paper discusses the design of a photovoltaic parameter monitoring system that uses Internet of Things technology to monitor in real time. This software is intended to be as interactive as possible in order to display all measurement data in the form of graphical according to a user-specified time interval. The constructed system is tested to display the measurement parameters of the fixed and dual axis solar tracker. The test results indicate that the system can display data in real time. Every data shown is accessible from any location and at any time, so long as the device being used is connected to the Internet. This system obviously can be applied and developed for an internet of thing-based p...
