Abstract

Preparing students to develop a critical thinking resulting in the expression and argumentation of opinions is one of the aims of education. Traditionally, these opinions remained in the vase clos of the educational sphere. However, because the opinions -as pedagogical outcome- presently have the possibility to become public opinions when shared via digital platforms –as blogs are-, this paper will reflect on the use of the latter specific platform as a pedagogical approach which should contribute to the development of a critical mind-set with public relations undergraduates. To set the theoretical frame, the authors start from their perspective on the academic agenda and its societal role setting (Carvalho & Cotton, 2013). The body of knowledge in media studies points out the multi influences of the media on the public sphere, i.e. in contributing to define the issues discussed in here, as well as how these influences remained for many years an almost exclusive power of the media. ...
