Abstract

In view of the increase in milk production in Brazil and their economic importance, a study was carried out to verify whether the socio economical similarity of municipalities is refl ected in the performance of milk production and whether there is equality in relation ship of activities. The data of municipalities in the Taquari Valley, Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil, were analyzed through their socio economic develop mentioned indicators to identify the similarities between the musing the Principal Component Analysis techniques (PCA) and Hierarchical Cluster Analysis (HCA). Milk production data in the municipalities were tabulated for exploration, analysis and subsequent crossing with results of economic similarity. The study determined that there is similarity between the municipalities and their economies, but this is not necessarily linked to milk production.
