Abstract
The concept of emotional intelligence includes the use in social life of abilities towards the shared feelings of people and their communication skills. Today media is one of the major factors that shape both our personal development and our socialization in the community. Individuals who are intertwined with media messages in their everyday life improve their abilities to utilize and interpret these messages through the use of emotional intelligence and empathizing. The answers given to the questions of how the individual reads media texts and make sense of them must inevitably be related to the individual’s personal communication skills and emotional intelligence. The project of “Media Literacy” which is jointly undertaken by The Radio and Television Supreme Council (RTÜK) and the Ministry of National Education and the project of “Smart Signs” which is conducted by RTÜK constitute interesting examples to discuss in this regard.
