espanolEn el articulo se analiza el proceso de urbanizacion en el litoral mediterraneo espanol a escala local. Diversos tipos de municipios litorales son caracterizados, mediante el analisis de datos censales, en funcion de su comportamiento demografico, familiar, de consumo, calidad de vida y produccion de vivienda. Finalmente se discute el papel singular y distintivo que los municipios turisticos juegan ante la tendencia a la litoralizacion del sistema urbano espanol. English"The role of tourist destinations in the social and demographic transformation of the Spanish Mediterranean coast" The process of urbanization of the Spanish coast is analysed at the local scale. Different types of coastal municipalities are characterized, by means of the analysis of census data, based on their demographic, familiar behaviour, consumption, perceived quality of life and housing trends. Results point out that tourist towns play a distinctive role in the Spanish urban system.
