OPPORTUNITIES OF TOURISM SECTOR IN BANGLADESH
The paper mainly focuses on the prospects of tourism sector in Bangladesh. Bangladesh is a country of enriched heritage and culture from thousands of years ago. The economy of Bangladesh has much potentiality to earn foreign currency creating more attraction and disseminating the information about the tourist places to other parts of the world. The study has been conducted based on secondary information that have been collected from various articles published in journals, Bangladesh Parjatan Corporation (BPC), Ministry of Civil Aviation and Tourism, and different websites. Authors’ personal experiences and observations have also been taken into account to get the findings. The paper finds that the major tourist attractions, number of foreign tourists arrivals in Bangladesh in several years, the annual income and profit earning from tourism sector in the country have shown the opportunities and potentiality of tourism development in the country. However, the paper identifies various constraints to the development of tourism and prescribes some necessary recommendations for policy formulation and managerial implication of the development of the tourism sector in Bangladesh. Therefore, the value of the tourism sector development has a positive impact on the growth and economic development of Bangladesh in future.
An Appraisal of Tourism Industry Development in Bangladesh

Tourism has considered as the world's largest and rapid growing industry of modern business world. It has a vital influence on economic development of a country. Bangladesh is a new tourist destination on the map of the world. Bangladesh has enormous potential to develop tourism because of its attractive natural beauty and rich cultural heritage. Tourism can add value in the Bangladeshi economy if proper marketing plan and strategy can be built and implemented for this purpose. However, this industry fails to reach its destination due to adequate marketing practices. This paper aims to show the present scenario of tourism industry in Bangladesh, identifies the constraints, and suggests remedial measures accordingly. The study also suggests that government should formulate a 'tourism policy' immediately for the development of this industry. Both public and private level investment is required in the tourism sector and regional cooperation can bring benefits for Bangladesh.

This paper is an improvement over my earlier paper on Bangladesh tourism. It has been published in the souvenir of the National University of Bangladesh. In this paper mainly we have tried to focus light on the problems of Bangladesh vis-a-vis many of the developing nations' tourism.

Tourism appeal includes natural places like beaches, eco-parks, lakes, valleys, rivers, islands etc., archeological sites, historic mosques and monuments, resorts, picnic spots, forest and wildlife. Bangladesh is a riverine country having attractive panoramic beauty. There are hills, valley, canals, lake, eco-park and mangrove forests, rivers, so many islands and the longest beach in the world. In this country, the scope of nature based tourism, resource based tourism, culture based tourism and eco-tourism is quite evident. Bangladesh is trying hard to develop its tourism industry. Therefore the whole situation deserves to be seen from right perspectives. Role of government is positive since the last twenty years both private and public organizations have come forwarded to attract the local and foreign tourists. The cracks of problem could not identify accurately because of the paucity number of researches and investigations in our country. Developed and organized tourism industry could change the economic condition and contribute a big share in the GDP of Bangladesh. This study will impede the opportunities of developing tourism industry in the light of existing resources.
11.An Evaluative Study on Tourism in Bangladesh
Tourism is one of the most promising sectors for Bangladesh with her huge natural beauty, heroic historical background and archaeological resources. This research has identified whether the contribution of this sector is significant to total GDP of Bangladesh and its future prospects as research problem. It has served the objectives of assessing different aspects of tourism with point to point analysis. Secondary data supplied by Bangladesh Economic Review 2010, Bangladesh Parjatan Corporation and World Travel & Tourism Council have been analyzed with some simple statistical tools. Recommendations are made for development of infrastructures, diversifications of tourism form and elimination of bureaucratic barriers.

The World Tourism Organization (WTO) defines tourism more generally, in terms which go "beyond the common perception of tourism as being limited to holiday activity only ", as people "traveling to and staying in places outside their usual environment for not more than one consecutive year for leisure, business and other purposes". Tourism has become a great source of foreign exchange earning in Bangladesh. It is playing an important role to create an employment opportunities in a large scale. Tourism is now a global industry connecting hundred millions of people worldwide; which been recognized as a fastest rising sectors. These industries make it as a key column of economic development of any destination country. World travel and tourism council (WTTC) find out by their latest research in 2014-2015 that from Travel & Tourism industry's direct input to global GDP growing by 3.0%, to US$2.1trillion at the year 2015 and the industry directly supported 101 million jobs. Global Travel & Tourism contribution to direct GDP in 2013 is forecast to grow by 3.1% and is again forecast to outpace growth of the total global economy (2.4%) in 2013. Longer-term prospects are even more positive with annual growth forecast to be 4.4% per year over the ten years to 2022. Bangladesh has become now a new tourist zone on the map of the world. The tourism sector in Bangladesh has been gradually growing from mid-nineties to till now. It has a great potentiality to develop tourism sector by applying new policies and strategies. The overall objective of this research study is to have an overview in tourism market and its force or impact or contribution on Bangladesh GDP or overall economy and highlighting the issues and challenges being faced in this sector.
