The data was collected using a non-probability sampling technique with a purposive sampling method through a questionnaire instrument with the total number of respondents of 70 manufacturers in Surabaya. Then, the data were analyzed using Partial Least Square software and Structural Equation Modeling based on components or variants. The results indicate that the relationship between supply chain collaboration and informat...

The impact of information sharing in supply chains on organisational performance: an empirical study

Information sharing has been cited as one of the major means to enhance supply chain performance. It allows companies to better coordinate their activities with their supply chain partners that lead to increased performance. This study conceptualises and assesses several factors that influence the degree of information sharing in supply chains, namely integrated information technologies, internal integration, information quality and costs–benefits sharing. The relationship between the degree of information sharing and organisational performance is then tested. Data from 150 manufacturing companies were collected and proposed relationships are examined using structural equation modelling. The results show that integrated information technologies and information quality have positive influence on the intensity of information sharing. However, internal integration and costs–benefits sharing do not relate to the intensity of information sharing. This study finds that information sharing does not directly relate to organisational performance. Its relationship is mediated by collaboration practices with supply chain partners. This suggests that information sharing is essential but insufficient by itself to bring significant performance improvements.

The Consequences of Information Technology, Information Sharing and Supply Chain Integration, towards Supply Chain Performance and Firm Performance

Journal of International Logistics and Trade, 2020

This paper presents the concerns in manufacturing supply chain. Further this study investigates the role of information technology (IT) and information sharing (IS) in manufacturing supply chain and determines its impact towards supply chain integration (SCI), supply chain performance (SCP), and manufacturing firm performance (FP) in Malaysia. The theoretical framework was proposed for the study on the basis of existing literature. The study administered a survey questionnaire to collect data from manufacturing firms in Malaysia with 112 respondents. A multiple regression analysis is conducted to establish the relationship between IT, IS, SCI, and FP. The study finds that IT and sharing has significant positive effect towards and performance. Firms that use IT and practice IS across partners in the supply chain are more likely to integrate their internal and external value chain for better performance both within and across the manufacturing firms in the supply chain. This study can...

Fawcett, S.E., Osterhaus, P., Magnan, G.M., Brau, J.C., & McCarter, M.W. (2007). Information sharing and supply chain performance: The role of connectivity and willingness. Supply Chain Management: An International Journal 12(5) 358–368.

Purpose: The purpose of this paper is to understand how information technology (IT) is used to enhance supply chain performance. Design/methodology/approach: A large‐scale survey and semi‐structured interviews were used to collect industry data. Findings: Two distinct dimensions to information sharing – connectivity and willingness – are identified and analyzed. Both dimensions are found to impact operational performance and to be critical to the development of a real information sharing capability. However, many companies are found to have placed most of their emphasis on connectivity, often overlooking the willingness construct. As a result, information sharing seldom delivers on its promise to enable the creation of the cohesive supply chain team. Research limitations: Despite the extensive data collection, the research represents a snapshot of practice. Replication from a longitudinal perspective would help define how IT is evolving to enable supply chain management. Practical implications: A roadmap is presented to help guide IT development and investment decisions. Originality/value: The research presents a two‐by‐two matrix to help managers and academics understand the related nature of connectivity and willingness. A roadmap is presented to help guide IT development and investment decisions.

MAJOR PROBLEMS ENCOUNTERED IN SUPPLY CHAIN INFORMATION SHARING IN INDIAN MANUFACTURING INDUSTRIES

This paper highlights the barriers encountered mainly in Indian manufacturing industries during their information sharing in supply chain management. Here we have identified the barriers as well as modeled them for finding out the dependency power and driving power of all the barriers encountered in all types of manufacturing industries by using interpretive structural modeling (ISM) technique. Information sharing is the power of supply chain. Today's need is to make effective information sharing (IS) but the main difficulty occurs when a lot of barriers come into existence and there exists an ambiguity when it is not known which barriers to be eliminated or reduced first. This paper helps to identify and makes hierarchy of barriers according to their dependency and driving power.

Determinants of Information Sharing in Supply Chain among Manufacturing and Trading companies in Albania: A Discriminant Analysis

Euroeconomica, 2011

The competition among enterprises has gradually become the competition between supply chains, and it is more and more important for the cooperation among members of the supply chain to improve supply chain performance. Information sharing among members of supply chain can have an impact on supply chain integration. This article studies the determinant factors of the level of information sharing in supply chain. The population of this study is manufacturing and trading companies in Albania. A questionnaire survey was conducted to study the level of information sharing by the targeted companies. This study reveals that top management support, trust in partners, and commitment of partners are significant variables in determining the level of information sharing and in distinguishing between the organizations with high levels of information sharing and information quality and those with low levels of information sharing among supply chain partners. Manufacturing and trading organizations should be given strategic attention to information sharing because accurate, reliable and in time information can contribute to the improvement in organizational performance and competitive advantage.
