A Pollution Sensitive Marxian Production Inventory Model with Deterioration Under Fuzzy System
Journal of Optimization Theory and Applications
This article deals with an economic production quantity (EPQ) model with deterioration under the effect of environmental pollution in fuzzy environment. First of all, we develop a pollution generation (PG) model with the help of existing initial pollution status of the environment, and then we use it as an essential constraint in the proposed EPQ model. The model has also been studied in two different scenarios: (a) when unit selling price is given and (b) when unit selling price is associated with marginal profit respectively. However, in this article, the concept of manpower exploitation, law of surplus value and their impacts on profit function has been discussed. In fact, after the invention of Marxian production theory (1867), not a single article has been developed for studying inventory management problems/operations research using this theory. Thus, in this study, focussing Marxian principle we have developed a new production inventory model named Marxian economic production quantity (M-EPQ) model incorporating the extensions of the models developed by Harris (Mag Manag 10(2):135-136, 1913) and Taft (Iron Age 101:1410-1412, 1918) exclusively. Moreover, to deal with the non-random uncertainties of several cost components of production process we have utilized fuzzy system explicitly. A case study has been performed for numerical illustrations and we have developed a solution algorithm for numerical computations. Finally, sensitivity analysis and graphical illustrations are made to validate the new M-EPQ model followed by a conclusion.

This paper presents an imperfect manufacturing system in which production ability can produce items in m production setups and rework the imperfect quality items in one rework setup. Rework is one of the main issues in reverse logistic and green supply chain to reduce production cost and environmental problem. The aim of this research is to minimize the total inventory cost by determining the optimal cycle time and the optimal number of production setups. The convexity of the inventory model is derived by using mathematical software. The result is illustrated with numerical example for the model. The effects of the problem parameters upon the optimal solution are examined numerically. This model can be applied to optimizing the total inventory cost for the business enterprises where production rate and demand rate are time dependent and salvage value is incorporated to the deteriorated items.
A Sustainable Inventory Model with Imperfect Products, Deterioration, and Controllable Emissions
Mathematics, 2020
Maintaining product quality and environmental performance are emerging concerns in modern competitive and transparent businesses. Many retailers separate perfect products from imperfect ones to ensure product quality and endeavor to achieve carbon dioxide (CO2) reduction through green technology investments and sustainable inventory planning. Product deterioration often badly hampers the retailing business; hence, suitable preservation technologies are used. In this study, we examined the optimization model of the selling price, investment, and replenishment planning to maximize the total profit. The proposed model considered the effect of a greater deterioration rate and discount price of imperfect products. Due to the high uncertainty in demand, a realistic holding cost was deliberated with a variable and constant part. Every time the retailer transports purchased items, greenhouse gases (GHGs), including CO2, are produced. Government regulations on CO2 minimization and customer a...

Department of Mathematics, Holy Cross College (Autonomous), Affiliated to Bharathidasan University, Tiruchirappalli-620002, India. Abstract: Mitigating carbon emission in inventory has become an important issue for companies. Nowadays, companies are looking for solutions to reduce the carbon emission due to carbon policies imposed by various regulatory bodies. Not only for regulations, ISO certification, business competitive and customer satisfaction also encourage organizations to adopt green practices in their supply chain. In this paper, we develop a new sustainable inventory model considering carbon emission function which includes different sources of pollution. A mathematical model is to determine the optimal order quantity and total cost of this system. A numerical example is illustrated to present the proposed model.

Nowadays, environment is an important concern of industries parallel to the economy. In this direction, a joint vendor-buyer model is exhibited where the system reliability and inspection errors are discussed along with the carbon emission issue. The main goal of this model is to obtain the optimum investment, shipment size, reliability and lead time even the inspection errors present in the system. A reliability dependent unit production cost is utilized to raise the machinery system reliability. Transportation of products use the single-setup-multi-unequal-delivery (SSMUD) policy to reduce carbon emission. Mathematical problem is solved analytically and a quasi-closed-form solution is found. Total cost is minimized with the optimum level of decision variables. Globality of the decisions is proved by Hessian matrix. Results demonstrate that the total cost is minimized even though the optimum solutions are obtained in quasi-closed- form. Numerical example is elaborated to test the v...

Managing a sustainable integrated inventory model for imperfect production process with type one and type two errors This study develops a sustainable integrated inventory model for controllable lead time with defective items, errors in inspection, and variable lead-time. The research investigates the effect of controlling lead time and capital investment in the setup cost. We assume that the buyer receives a lot size that may contain some defective items with a known defective probability. The buyer's inspector conducts a 100% quality inspection and may incorrectly classify a non-defective item as a defective item (type one (I) error), or incorrectly classify a defective item as a non-defective item (type two (II) error). The mathematical inventory model considering carbon emission cost is developed, and the solution procedure is designed to derive the optimal solution. Finally, numerical examples and sensitivity analysis are given to illustrate the results.
Economic production quantity models for imperfect items with pollution costs
Systems Science & Control Engineering, 2014
When imperfect quality products are produced in a production process, rework may be performed to make them become serviceable. In an inventory system, items may deteriorate. Selling deteriorated items to customers will create negative impact on corporate image. In this paper, two economic production quantity (EPQ) models are proposed for deteriorating items with rework process. A single production-rework plant system and a system consists of n production plants and one rework plant are considered. Approximated analytic results are obtained and numerical examples are provided to illustrate the solution procedure.
Low Carbon Economic Production Quantity Model for Imperfect Quality Deteriorating Items
International Journal of Industrial Engineering and Engineering Management
This paper presents an economic production quantity (EPQ) model for deteriorating items with a certain percentage of defective products due to an imperfect process. The defective products are sold to a secondary market at a discount price. Due to environmental concern and carbon tax regulation, the manufacturer incorporates the control of carbon emission cost into its decision model. Carbon emission cost is a function of electricity consumption during production and inventory storage; it is also dependent on the carbon tax rate. Since the production process results in work-in-process inventory and carbon emission, the study tries to optimize the throughput time. We also examine the effect of carbon tax regulation on the potential emission reduction from the developed deteriorating item model. A numerical example and sensitivity analysis have been provided, and the result confirms the influence of carbon tax regulation in reducing carbon emission.

With the instantaneous effects of sustainable implements, supply chain members are curious about achieving economic and environmental benefits. This study presents the two models, namely the integrated and bilevel approaches, and compares the results to maximize the profit for the supply chain. The demand is stockdependent, and shortages are not allowed. The pollution factor considered here is regarding production alone. Also, the deterioration induces to do some effective practices to curb consequential losses for investment in preservation technology. The main objective of this study is to determine the optimal cycle length, preservation technology investments, shipments that tends to maximize the profit per unit time. To prove the clarity of the proposed model, a numerical example is given. We analyzed the effects of various parameters on the behaviour of the profit function.
Sustainable economic production quantity models for inventory systems with shortage
Journal of Cleaner Production, 2018
Recently, new economic order/production quantity models have shifted away from focusing only on economic issues and towards combined economic-environmental concerns because of sustainable development goals. Despite this shift, only a few works have addressed sustainable Economic Production Quantity (EPQ). The theoretical sustainable EOQ and EPQ models are basic models that ignore many real-life conditions such as the possibility of stock-out in inventory systems. In this paper, we develop four new sustainable economic production quantity models that consider different shortage situations. To find optimal values of inventory system variables, we solve four independent profit maximization problems for four different situations. These proposed models include a basic model in which shortages are not allowed, and when shortages are allowed, the lost sale, full backordering and partial backordering models can be selected by operations managers depending on the manufacturer's motivation to improve service levels. We have also proposed an algorithm for determining optimum values of the decision variables for these sustainable economic production quantity models. Finally, the formulated models are explained with some different examples and the obtained results have been analyzed and discussed. These results show that the sustainable economic production quantity with partial backordering model is a general and more realistic model that can be used in many real cases with a reasonable profit amount, compared with the three other proposed models.
