Ethnomedicinal and Ethnoveterinary Plants from Boath, Adilabad District, Andhra Pradesh, India

The present paper deals with the traditional uses of 57 plant species employed in ethnomedicine and ethnoveterinary practice by tribal and local people of the Boath Revenue Division of Adilabad district, Andhra Pradesh, to treat different ailments affecting both human and livestock. For each plant species, details on the scientific name, botanical family, local name and use are provided along with parts harvested for treatment, the manner of processing and the mode of administration.

Plants used in ethno-veterinary medicine by malayali tribals in Salem district of Tamil Nadu, India

A survey for documentation of ethnoveterinary medicinal plants used by the Malayali traditional healers in Peddanaickenpalayam block of Salem district, Tamil Nadu, southern India has been conducted during June 2010 to November 2010. Ethnoveterinary information was gathered through individual interviews and observations among the Malayali tribals. A total of 40 species of ethnoveterinary medicinal plants belongs to 27 families and 36 genera were recorded in the study with the help of nine ethnoveterinary traditional healers. Among the plant parts used by the Malayali tribals for their domestic animals, leaves are most commonly used for the preparation of medicine. Of the plants recorded Abrus precatorius, Andrographis paniculata, Cassia fistula, Dendrocalamus strictus, Gymnema sylvestre, Strychnos nux-vomica and Wattakaka volubilis are recognized as very commonly used ethnoveterinary medicinal plants. Our study suggested that, documenting the medicinal plants and associated indigenous knowledge can be used for conservation and sustainable use of medicinal plants in the area and for validation of these plant preparations for veterinary treatment.

ETHNOBOTANICAL STUDY OF MEDICINAL PLANTS USED BY TRIBALS IN ANANTAPUR DISTRICT, ANDHRA PRADESH, INDIA

The present study deals with the study of some of the medicinal plants were used by sugali tribes of the Anantapur district, Andhra Pradesh, India. These tribes are depending on the medicinal plants for traditional health care. 25 Medicinal plants were identified and botanical name, local name, family, habitat, part of plant used, mode of consumption, disease cured and preparation method are represented.

Plants used in traditional healthcare of livestock: A case study from Kendrapara district, Odisha, India

Ethnoveterinary practices concern to animal healthcare is as old as the domestication of various livestock species. They comprise belief, knowledge, practices and skills pertaining to healthcare and management of livestock. The Indian subcontinent has rich ethnoveterinary health traditions that are the products of decades of experiences. The objective of the present study is to document the prevalent folk medicinal knowledge of plants used for the treatment of various ailments of livestock in Kendrapara district of Odisha, India. The study was carried out during Dec 2014 to May 2016 by taking interviews and discussions with the local inhabitants of the district. A total of 44 plant species representing to 43 genera and belonging to 33 families have been enumerated for ethnoveterinary practices as remedy for 23 types of animal ailments. Ethnomedicinal Plants Used by Ethnic People in Eastern Ghats of Visakhapatnam District, Andhra Pradesh, India

Medicinal Plants: Biodiversity, Sustainable Utilization and Conservation

An ethnomedicinal survey was carried out among the ethnic people of Khodu, Mali and Gadaba tribals inhabited in Visakhapatnam District, Andhra Pradesh, India. A total of 55 ethnomedicinal plants belonging to 55 genera under 35 families were recorded. The maximum contribution was recorded for trees, followed by herbs, shrubs and climbers. Among the plant parts used in different formulations, stem and bark are profusely used, which is followed by root, leaves and latex. A total of 35 diseases are known to be cured by using 55 medicinal plants species.

Ethnobotanical survey of medicinal plants used by the tribes of Khammam district, Andhra Pradesh, India

An ethnobotanical survey was carried out among the Koyas, Konda reddis, and Lambada Tribes of Khammam district, Andhra Pradesh, India during October, 2011 to September 2012. A total of 40 species of ethnomedicinal plants belonging to 39 genera and 25 families were reported with the help of standardized questionnaires among eight tribal informants between ages of 32-85. The study showed a high degree of ethnobotanical novelty and use of plants among Koya, Konda reddis, Lambada reflects. The medicinal plants used by tribes of Khammam district, Andhra Pradesh, India are arranged alphabetically followed by Botanical name, Family name, Vernacular name in telugu (also the language of Koya, Konada reddi, and Lambada) parts used and medical uses. The family Euphorbiaceae had the highest proportion of medicinal plants used (12%), followed by Apocynaceae (7.5%), Fabaceae, Amaranthaceae, Rubiaceae and Solanaceae (5% each). The results of the study revealed that there is rich diversity of medicinal plants used to treat various ailments in the Khammam reserve forest.

Some Ethnoveterinary Medicinal Plants used among Tribals of Satpura range Burhanpur of M.P., India

The present exploration encompasses in-depth investigation on Ethnobotanical plants used as Ethno-veterinary medicine in the district of Burhanpur M.P., India. The present exploration revealed that 45 ethno-veterinary medicinal plants belonging to 43 genera under 29 families are used by tribals of Satpura range of Burhanpur district. Authors found that they are habitual to use plant parts in different formulations, leaves are predominantly used, followed by fruits, roots/ rhizomes, stem and bark.

Study of some ethno medicinal plants used by tribals of Shahdol, Madhya Pradesh, India

Shahdol is one of the tribal district of Madhya Pradesh and plants are being used as medicine and pharmaceuticals by large numbers of tribal, rural and urban people. Several tribal communities like Gond, Baiga and Kol inhibit in the area. An Ethno botanical surveys had been carried out in the Shahdol district of Madhya Pradesh from 2015-2016. The investigation deals about 34 plant species which are used by tribals of this area. A record of 34 medicinal plant species which is belong to 28 Family and 34 Genera used by tribals to cure various ailments among human beings are given. Ethno medicinal information was gathering through interview to Ojha and medicnman for curing of diseases. The present paper deals with the ethno botanical study of Shahdol region for the preparation of an inventory. Details of medicinal plants are described alphabetically, Botanical names followed by family, local names, plants part used, and the ethno medicinal uses have been provided.
