In the present study, an effort has been made to investigate the level of organizational commitment in police personnel. A 3×2 factorial design with three levels of job hierarchy (i.e., officers, sub inspectors & constables) and two levels of job tenure (i.e., short job tenure & long job tenure) was used. A total of 240 police employees were randomly selected from various police stations of Eastern U.P. Organizational commitment scale (Allen & Meyer, 1990) was used to determine the level of organizational commitment in employees. Results revealed that the extent of organizational commitment varied significantly in various group of police employees. Affective commitment was found greater in officers than sub – inspectors and constables respectively .Whereas, normative commitment was found greater in officers and sub-inspectors as compared to constables. Present study endeavored to investigate the role of organizational health in enhancing the level of commitment in police employees. Coping with Work Stress in Police Employees

Present study endeavored to investigate the role of coping in work stress of police employees. A 3 × 2 factorial design with three levels of job hierarchy (officers, subinspectors, and constables) and two levels of job tenure [short job tenure (0-10 year) and long job tenure (above 10 year)] was used in present study. A total of 240 police personnel from Gorakhpur Zone (India) participated as respondents. Objective Work Stress Scale, Feeling of Work Stress Scale (Cooper 1983), and Coping Scale (Carver et al. 1989) were used to determine the level of work stress and coping of the police employees. ANOVA results revealed that the level of work stress varied across different groups of police personnel. More specifically, objective work stress was found greater in sub-inspectors than constables and officers while constables reported more feeling of work stress than sub-inspectors and officers, respectively. Furthermore, the different groups of police personnel differed on various forms of coping response, in which officers used more active-and adaptive-related coping strategies than sub-inspectors and constables, respectively. Contrary to this, constables used more maladaptive coping strategies than sub-inspectors and officers. Correlation results evinced that active-and adaptive-related coping responses have an inverse link with work stress, whereas maladaptive coping responses have a positive relationship with work stress. Findings have been discussed in the light of organizational and personal factors.
Stress and religious coping: a research on the employees (sample gora, primary school teachers)
Job stress has become a common and costly problem in the all over the world. One-fourth of employees view their jobs as the number one stressor in their lives. In the past 20 years, many studies have looked at the relationship between Job and stress. So research on job stress has greatly expanded in recent years. But in spite of this attention, confusion remains about the causes, effects, and prevention of the job stress. The purpose of this study is to determine workers religious and spiritual beliefs and activities, so their religious coping activities, measured using Pargament’s three coping styles and a positive religious coping scale; the influence of religious coping on psychological and existential well-being. Police operate around the world. Police organizations are tasked with a wide variety of duties, and successful police organizations need committed officers. The three main forms of organizational commitment are affective, normative, and continuance commitment. This study examined the relationship of overall job satisfaction and facet job satisfaction (transfers, pay, promotions, and supervision) on affective, normative, and continuance commitment among 550 officers working in the operations and investigation wings of the Lahore Police Stations in Punjab, Pakistan. Based on multivariate ordinary least squares (OLS) regression results, overall job satisfaction and facet satisfaction with transfers, pay, and supervision had significant positive effects on affective and normative commitment and negative associations with continuance commitment. Examination of the Coping Strategies and the Consequences

The study was conducted to examine the stress associated with policing in Nigeria, the strategies for coping with stress and the outcomes. A total number of 300 police officers randomly selected participated in the survey. The participants responded to Work Stress Inventory (WSI). They also responded to self- report scale on the use of alcohol, smoking, religiousity and seeking for professional help to cope with stress. Multiple Regression analysis was run to test four hypothesis. Results indicated that Police officers who experienced stress took to alcohol drinking, tobacco smoking, and religiousity to cope with stress. Moreover, the result showed that Police officers would not seek for professional help to cope with their stress. The study discussed the possible effects of these coping strategies on the wellbeing, and performance of police officers and also offered recommendations.

This paper attempts to explore the impact of perceived organizational support on affective commitment and organizational role stress of police officers in West Bengal. Previous scholars have recognized police service as highly stressful. West Bengal police officers are no exception in this regard. The prerequisite for performing an efficient and effective police service is a stress free and supportive work-organization. Studies have proved that perceiving work-organization as supportive enhances affective commitment and reduces stress. This paper was formulated on the perspective of organizational support theory and social exchange theory. Following purposive sampling method 190 male police officers from three districts of West Bengal, i.e., Kolkata, Howrah and North-24-parganas was selected. Perceived Organizational support (POS), Affective commitment and organizational role stress were measured using standardized questionnaires. Mean, Standard deviation, Pearson's coefficient of correlation, ANOVA and regression analysis were performed using SPSS (version-22). Correlation analysis has shown that POS has positive and significant relation with affective commitment and POS has significant and negative relation with role stress. Analysis of regression model showed that perception of organizational support has significant impact on affective commitment and organizational role stress of police officers. Practical implications are discussed, and suggestion for future researches mentioned.
The effect of law enforcement stress on organizational commitment

Purpose -This study takes an interdisciplinary research orientation in an attempt to comprehensively investigate the effects of police stress internal to the organization (i.e. role ambiguity, role conflict, supervisor support, group cohesiveness, and promotion opportunities) on organizational commitment, after controlling for the effects of job satisfaction. Existing empirical models have mainly been limited to analyses of the effects of role conflict and role ambiguity on job strain and rely on samples of salespeople, customer satisfaction employees, and retail managers working at private organizations to the neglect of not-for-profit organizations. Design/methodology/approach -Therefore, the underlying research hypotheses were tested using responses to 150 surveys from police officers of six law enforcement agencies. Findings -Results indicate that in addition to job satisfaction, supervisor's support, group cohesiveness, and promotion opportunities are the best predictors of organizational commitment of law enforcement officers. The results also indicate a significant relationship between organizational commitment and intention to leave. Research limitations/implications -Study findings are based on responses of officers from six police agencies in Florida. Results may not be representative of all US police. Practical implications -Research findings may help senior police officers in charge of managing the police force design strategies that both enhance police officers', organizational commitment and diminish turnover intentions. Originality/value -This study empirically tested a model that examines the effects of stressors on commitment and turnover intentions in police settings.
Psychological Resilience and Organizational Commitment: Mediating Role of Job Satisfaction

This study examined the relationship between psychological resilience, job satisfaction, and organizational commitment. The study, which was conducted with the relational survey model, included 204 women and 176 men, 380 people in total (Mage=37,87±7,88), working in the Directorate of Youth and Sports. Participants completed the personal information form, Psychological Resilience Scale-Short Form (PSS), Job Satisfaction Scale (JSS) and Organizational Commitment Scale (OCS). After data collection, the basic assumptions of parametric tests were tested, and a model was created to examine the relationship between PSS, JSS, and OCS. The causal relationship between the latent variables was analyzed using a structural equation model (SEM). SEM results showed that psychological resilience had direct positive significant effects on job satisfaction (βPSO-ITO=0,22; p<.01) and organizational commitment (βPSO-ITO=0,17; p<.01), and job satisfaction had direct positive significant effect on organizational commitment (βITO-ITO=0,48; p<.01). Simultaneously, job satisfaction had an indirect effect on the relationship between psychological resilience and organizational commitment (βPSO-ITO-OCB=0,10; p<.01). According to the results of the current research, psychological resilience and job satisfaction have a direct effect on organizational commitment, and job satisfaction has an indirect effect by assuming a partial mediating role in the relationship between psychological resilience and organizational commitment. Therefore, it may be possible to change attitudes towards the organization and accordingly increase organizational commitment levels by increasing the levels of psychological resilience and job satisfaction of individuals.
