Does Gratitude Ensure Workplace Happiness Among University Teachers? Examining the Role of Social and Psychological Capital and Spiritual Climate

The study examines the necessity and sufficiency of gratitude for supporting workplace happiness among Indian university teachers. It also explores the mediating effect of psychological capital and social capital in the relationship between gratitude and workplace happiness. The moderating effect of spiritual climate is investigated. A survey of 726 university staff in India was undertaken to examine the relationship between gratitude and workplace happiness. A series of statistical tests involving correlation, multiple regression, and necessary condition analysis was undertaken from the data set. The mediation effect of psychological capital and social capital was investigated using bootstrapping estimates using PROCESS Macro in SPSS. Gratitude and Its Relationship with Students’ Psychological Well-Being and Happiness

This study examines gratitude among undergraduate students of a public university in Malaysia and its relationship with psychological well-being and happiness. This study took 149 samples randomly from 235 undergraduate students who were asked to participate in answering Gratitude Questionnaire-6, Ryff's Scale of Psychological Well Being, and Subjective Happiness Scale. Correlation analysis shows a positive relationship between gratitude and students' psychological well-being and happiness. This study supports the previous studies that practicing gratitude is a positive way to enhance students' healthy psychological well-being and happiness in their life. This study recommends the university management to take consideration to cultivate gratitude practice embedded in the curriculum or in the extracurricular activities.

Gratitude is a moral, actively pro-social and emotive expression where one acknowledges a gift, recognizes the value of the gift and appreciates the intention of the donor. The present paper is an attempt to focus on the implication of gratitude on social well-being and subjective life satisfaction. It also attempts to develop some skills to cultivate gratitude. Gratitude has very significant implication on the life satisfaction and subjective well-being of an individual. Through this it also contributes to social well-being. Despite such significance, positive emotions like gratitude and the strengths of life has been getting less importance in scientific psychological study. So, present paper is an effort to bridge such gaps in Indian context. Present study highlights that gratitude can enhance social well-being as a moral barometer, moral reinforce and moral motivator. Gratitude plays a critical role in happiness of an individual. Therefore, it is necessary to develop certain skills to teach gratitude in scientific way not only as a moral virtue. Researches, conducted in the field of Positive Psychology support that skills of well-being can be taught and learnt scientifically. Positive Psychology research also discovered that cultivating the skills of wellbeing works as an antidote of depression, vehicle of life satisfaction and as a means of creative thinking. On the basis of such discoveries present study tested the effectiveness of some skills in cultivating gratitude. It was discovered through close participant observation and experimental treatment that gratitude is skill based and can be taught and learnt effectively.

Gratitude and Job Satisfaction: A Comparative study of males and females in Aviation sector

Expressing gratitude or thankfulness is not only a 'feel good' emotion attached with the organizational environment but can help employees in many ways. Practising gratitude generates a sense of worth in an employee and also has physical, psychological and interpersonal benefits. Job satisfaction on the other hand is the extent of contentment, satisfaction and self-motivation to do the current job The sample consisted of 100 employees of which 50 were males and 50 were females between the age group 35-45 years from aviation sector. Gratitude Intervention at Work: It’s Impact on Well-Being, Job Satisfaction & Organisational Commitment

Purpose: The current study is examining the efficiency of 5 days gratitude intervention where to list 3 things that employee was grateful for at workplace in daily basis. Method: The design of the study is experimental design that uses two groups, gratitude and control. It uses also work related intervention journaling-listing approach. The sample is employees in education and retailer sectors in Bahrain (N=145). Participants are measured at two point of time pre-test and post-test.The measurements used are self-report five scales; dispositional gratitude questionnaire, subjective well-being questionnaire, Positive and negative affect scale, Job satisfaction questionnaire and Affective Organizational Commitment. In addition, two questions to explore how employee evaluate their gratefulness towards specific events, people and experience and how do they prefer their managers to express their gratitude towards them at work.Findings: In term of the demographic result, most of the participants are female 56%, belongs to (24-30) age group, 90% from education sector, 80% are married, 65% earns average monthly income between 751 and 1000, 73% are bachelor holders and 97% Muslims. The outcomes have revealed that the gratitude intervention used was not effective since the independent t-test was not statistically significance. 91% of employees preferred word of gratitude and thankfulness from their boss as an appreciation expression towards them. More than 97% of the participants were grateful to their good health and to theirfamily, spouse, children and parents.Conclusion and recommendation: The insignificant results of the used intervention in the current study may suggest for future studies to consider other methods to facilitate gratitude in the workplace. Finally, Gratitude is important in both general life and work place. Theoretical and practical implications of these findings are discussed.

Female Teachers’ Subjective Well-Being from the Aspects of Gratitude, Optimism, and Work-Family Balance

Subjective Well-Being has become the primary goal of individuals to improve their quality of life. In particular, it also mainly applies to female teachers serving as both mother and teacher. This research aims to understand the influence of gratitude, optimism, and work-family balance on female teachers' subjective well-being in Yogyakarta. The study involved 83 female teachers as subjects. The data was chosen through purposive sampling technique and collected using the quantitative method. To obtain the data, the researchers employed subjective well-being scales, gratitude scales, optimism scales, and work-family balance scales. The data were analyzed using multiple regression through the SPSS computer program. The regression analysis resulted in (R) of 0.787 with p=0.001 (p<0.01). It shows that there are highly significant positive relationships among the variables of gratitude, optimism, and work-family balance and female teachers' subjective well-being in Yogyakarta. The variables of gratitude, optimism, and workfamily balance reached the correlation of t 2.932 with p=0.004 (p<0.05); t 4.721 with p = 0.001 (p<0.01), and t 05.042 with p = 0.001 (p<0.01), respectively. The values show that the relation between the three variables and subjective well-being is significantly positive.

Gratitude a Paradigm: Correlates of Wellbeing in Schools

Gratitude in its general connotation can be understood as appreciation for a favour or for simply any other thing, person or a phenomenon that a person may value in their life. Gratitude has been looked at through several lenses and perspectives. It has strong spiritual and religious correlates. Cross-cultural evidence points to religious involvement. Neuroscience research indicates how gratitude and wellbeing intersect. Within the Child Development framework, developmental, cross cultural and well-being paradigms are the most researched. This paper attempts to provide an overview on gratitude and why should it be used as an intervention for increasing the well-being and positive health of students and teachers. Several studies have been done to establish the positive effects of practising gratitude and how it aids in positive well-being and upkeep.

Predicting Job Satisfaction: Contributions of Individual Gratitude and Institutionalized Gratitude

This study examined the role that employee perceptions of dispositional gratitude, state gratitude and institutionalized gratitude had upon job satisfaction. Employees (n = 171) completed measures of dispositional, state and institutionalized gratitude together with job satisfaction. Multiple Hierarchical Regression showed that state gratitude and institutional gratitude uniquely predict job satisfaction. The results have implications for the fields of positive organizational scholarship and positive organizational behavior and suggest that workplaces aiming to increase job satisfaction can do so through organizationally-based gratitude interventions and by institutionalizing gratitude into workplace culture.
