STUDY REGARDING SCHOOL ABANDONMENT AND ITS EFFECTS ON ROMANIAN SOCIETY
Knowledge International Journal 45, 2021
From a demographic point of view, in Romania there is a decreasing trend of the population caused by negative natural growth and mass migration, especially of young people, and there is also a marked demographic imbalance due to aging population and high mortality, especially in communities. rural. Romania is facing a worrying situation regarding the early school leaving rate, even given that in recent years there has been a declining trend in the phenomenon. If in 2015, Romania registered a percentage of 19.1%, and in 2017 of 18.1%, in 2018 Romania reaches the lowest percentage in the last ten years of 16.4%, according to the data presented by the Directorate for Employment of the European Commission. However, this percentage remains very high, compared to the European Union average of 10.6%. At the level of the European Union, in 2018, Romania ranked third, with the highest percentage of school dropout in the history of post-war Romanian education, according to Eurostat statistics. Access to education for all members of society, regardless of their intellectual, family, religious, ethnic or socio-economic characteristics is a priority objective for the Romanian education system. The causes of school dropout are multiple, both economic and social. One cause for concern is population decline. In recent years, Romania has been following a downward trend in terms of the resident population. From the population census from 2002 and 2011 to January 1, 2019, the population decrease was 1.6 million people, according to the National Institute of Statistics. One of the factors that influences the decrease of the population in Romania, is the emigration. It is found that the main factor underlying emigration is the economic factor. The significant trend of migration, especially of the young population and economically active people, is determined by the lack of jobs, low living standards and in finally poverty. This factor is joined by other factors such as low birth rates and high mortality which together accelerate the decline in population and aging population. Definitive evasion in terms of stopping school, leaving the education system regardless of the level reached, before obtaining a qualification or professional training, is a serious problem from a socio-economic point of view. The lack of a professional qualification, indispensable for socio-economic integration, leads to an increase in the number of unemployed who in the medium and long term cause social and economic problems on the one hand, and on the other hand will lead to the formation of communities with individuals who will he had problems with education and civic morale, which in turn would bring serious harm to society. In this context, the group of authors of this article, considers that the topic under study is particularly important and strictly topical, in that it covers an area of great interest at present at national and European level. The study aims to highlight the current state of problems in the field of education that overlap with the accelerated decline of the population in Romania and which together cause serious problems from a social and economic point of view in Romania. One of the methods used to prepare the raw analysis material was the documentation of official databases provided by the National Institute of Statistics (INS - Tempo Online), the statistical yearbook of Romania - data collections published by EUROSTAT, as well as various publications or complementary information. taken from the Internet.
Critical Analysis of the Causes of School Abandonment
2018
The key to succeed in a professional career is continuous education. One of the serious problems faced by the educational system in contemporary society is the early leaving of school. A person who drops out of studies will not have the professional qualification required to integrate into the national or international economic market, eventually becoming the future unemployed worker. While in the EU the general tendency is decreasing, in Romania, school abandonment is increasing both at pre-university and university level. In this paper, the authors propose to analyze the possible causes and to correlate them with the evolution of the school abandonment registered in a composite university. The data are obtained from the national database and statistically processed. According to the results we obtained, the rate of the school abandonment which is registered in such an university shows different trends depending on the faculty profile and the economic environment.

Every year, students who complete the high education, and who intend continuing their post-secondary education, are faced with the problem of selecting the direction of studies. The selection process of conducting studies usually starts years ago, and many factors are involved in this process. Identification and analysis of factors that influence the selection process of direction of studies by students was the purpose of this research. To identify the factors that have greater weight in determining the direction of studies by students, 1345 high school students in Kosova were surveyed using a questionnaire prepared for this purpose. These data provided descriptive information, quantitative and statistical interpretation. The statistical analysis of the data is made by using the SPSS software. Findings from this study indicate that a significant number of factors are taken into account by students during this process. Economic factors proved dominant during data analysis. Also a qua...

The subject of this preliminary study was to investigate the stated reasons of school dropout at the secondary level of formal education. The researcher investigated this issue from two viewpoints. One is the viewpoint of the school administrators and the other is that of the school counselors. This was a qualitative study. Semistructured interviews were done with the administrators and counselo rs of 19 schools in İstanbul. The data were collected by the undergraduate students in the guidance and psychological counseling department of a private university and by the researcher himself. The schools were selected by the researcher among the schools which have the highest dropout rates in İstanbul. And then the ones the data collecting individuals would conveniently access were visited. The aim was to collect opinions of two important actors of the school institution about the dropout issue and to br ing the dropout related themes to light. The dropout related factors were attributed to the students, families, teachers, educational system, and elementary school applications.

Current problems of education, 2021
When teaching and educating, teachers often encounter problems and challenges. However, not only do students and teachers face difficulties, but the educational system also needs to tackle problems, and several questions have to be answered. The conference volume, edited by Gyorgy Hunyady, Beno Csapo, Gabriella Pusztai and Judit Szivak, explores these current questions and problems. The volume offers concise resumes to the readers thus establishing the thematic framework of the book. Moreover, this structure is also convenient to describe the independent vocational days organised by the three universities (DE, ELTE, SZTE) in details. Based on these experiences, we describe the content of the chapters. The researchers of the Pedagogical Institute of the University of Szeged analyse the questions of educational development in an intriguing study. The modernization of education is determined by the development of pedagogy, the economic factors, the development of researches, and the components of training. According to Beno Csapo, Csaba Csikos, Erzsebet Korom, Gyongyver Molnar and Tibor Vidakovich, "money invested in the education is worth many times for both the individual and the society." (p. 68.) Besides, learning also has a positive effect on the quality of the individual life and the human and cultural dimensions of social development. One of the study's subchapters analyses the relationship between early childhood and equal opportunity. Its authors claim that it is crucial to support studying early childhood and examining development, to develop advanced reading-and mathematical skills before school age, and to examine the transition from kindergarten to school. It is proved that "one of the main opportunities of the correction of educational results is a more effective teaching and development of the children of disadvantaged families." (p. 76.) Janos Gordon Gyori examines the factors of the differences between students and their equal opportunities not only in national but also in international relations. Then, he interprets international knowledge-and chanece giving models. According to the author, the causes of inequality opportunities in education are the differences in socioeconomic status. Their effects can be different based on the origin and psychical background from what is expected. Concerning his theory, three strategies can help to set the inequality opportunities right: the special support of the concerned people-or groups, positive discrimination and strengthening.
The Estimation of Dimension and Factors of School Abandon
DOAJ (DOAJ: Directory of Open Access Journals), 2011
During the transition period, in Romania, the dimension of school abandon had risen. The main goals of the study are: to estimate the school abandon rate by each educational level in Romania, to identify the factors which affect school abandon on urban and rural areas and at development regions level; to analyze the causes of earlier school abandon. In the same time, the analysis had also followed the temporal component, by including in the database the last decade statistical information. The school abandon was measured as the difference between the numbers of pupils/ students found at the end of the school year and the same category enrolled at the beginning of the same year.

Dropping out of educational system is a serious individual, familial, educational and social problem. It is a complex process influenced by a large number of factors. Nevertheless, it is a phenomenon that takes place in school, and different school factors can serve as risk or protective factors. Dropout rates in Serbia are still high. One way to improve the educational system and ensure equal education for every child is to reduce dropout rates from primary and secondary education. As part of a larger study, the goal of this research was to investigate and identify key school factors related to dropout from primary and secondary schools in Serbia. The research was conducted in 8 primary and 13 secondary schools from 17 municipalities with high dropout rates. In order to hear voices from different actors in the educational system, qualitative research was conducted, involving interviews and focus groups with teachers, school principals, school psychologists, counsellors, pedagogical assistants, parents and students. Following the analysis, several school factors highly related to dropout were singled out. Low quality (individualisation) of teaching, lack of learning and emotional support and lack of positive teacher-student relationships proved to have the greatest influence on student dropout. On the other hand, our results indicate that student and parent participation in school life is underused as a resource 1 The paper is the product of work on the Project "Identification, measurement and development of cognitive and emotional competences important for a society oriented towards European integrations" (No. 179018), conducted by the Institute of Psychology, Faculty of Philosophy University of Belgrade, and funded by the Ministry of Education, Science and Technological Development, Republic of Serbia, and on the Project "Research and analysis study of school, individual and social factors influencing primary and secondary school drop-out and identification of innovative approaches for dropout prevention in school and through community services" funded by UNICEF.

As a consequence of the expansion in higher education, the number of students hasincreased and the academic population has diversified but at the same time the university dropout has become a general problem since the last century (Trow,2005;Kozma,2010; Barro &Jong,2013;Stanciu,2014;Berei,2018).In this paper, I proposed to analyze the persistence of students from 5universities fromRomania. We examine at institutional and individual level the perspective of their willingness to finish their studies. In partnership with the Center for Higher Education Research and Development-Hungary, named CHERD –H, from the Universityof Debrecen, was collected dates among students in 2012 (N=1323) and in 2014-2015 (N=323). Through a quantitative analysis, on a longitudinal perspective, I used SPSS statistical program to analyze data. The question of the research was: isthere anydifference betweenstudents` intentions to graduateonprivate and state institutions?Who is intending to finish and who is preparing to abandon his study? I concluded that students with unfavorable family background havenearlytwotimes lowerchance to enroll at state universityand in private institutionsstudentsintention to enter into possesion of diploma wassignificant lower. With logistic regression I found also, that low financial status or low schooling of parents isnot a significant obstacle on student academic path if they makeevery effort to participate in educational programs, submit assignments on time and are able to prepare for exams.
