Technology Enhanced Learning and University Teaching: Different Approaches for Different Purposes

International Journal on E-Learning, 2008

Teaching innovation in University education, especially when based on the use of information and communication technology (ICT), is a long process and is strongly conditioned by many variables such as the specific cultural context, the availability of resources (human and technological), the level of knowledge the faculty members possess on the educational use of ICT, the different role they are required to cover if they intend to adopt and promote Technology Enhanced Learning (TEL), etc. In dealing with these issues, this article focuses on two primary objectives: one analyzing the teachers' trends in their choice of a specific TEL approach when intent on innovating their teaching with the support of ICT; the other reflecting and offering

Relevance of technology in teachers’ learning and teaching

Learning is an on-going process and so is the innovation. Knowledge is an outcome of learning and technology is a result of innovation. Today, we belong to the networking age that surpass the communication age. In this age, the concept of education has become modern and elaborative. Now the focus has shifted from imparting knowledge to interaction, discussion and above all encouraging participation. It looks like teaching and technology or teaching with technology implies the dependency and integration of both on each other. This paper attempts to give an insight on how to integrate teaching with teachers learning for effective delivery of information and knowledge. The key focus of this paper is to find out the ways in which teachers can embrace their learning with the help of various tools of technology. And also how teachers can use technology to reach out to their students in most impressive style. To enable teachers to shift from their habitual approach to contemporary approach, Here the onus is on teachers’ to educate and impart knowledge in the most effective and efficient way. But this is only possible if their own education is able to strengthen their own knowledge. This paper describes the innovative approach adopted for the professional development of teachers. It focuses on integrating technology skills based on authentic learning situations. Through this paper an attempt is made to find out how Technology can play important role in both teachers education and teaching methods .how technology can be made interesting to use for learning over conventional methods. As a teacher the process of learning other than teaching become more imperative. It is cyclic in nature i.e. from learning to gaining to delivering to learning back. Where the exchange of knowledge will result in knowing something new not only for the students but for the teachers as well. This paper contains dynamics of teachers’ education integrating with technology both in their own learning and way of imparting it to students.

Aspects to Be Considered when Implementing Technology-Enhanced Learning Approaches: A Literature Review

Future Internet, 2015

The significance of approaches to technology-enhanced learning (TEL) has increased rapidly during the last few years. Nowadays in education different approaches such as game-based learning, web-based learning, video-based online courses, and many others are used on a daily basis. However, what defines the success of technology-enhanced learning approaches and how can such approaches be developed in a structured way? Furthermore, what different aspects have to be considered while doing so? To answer these questions, 4567 publications were analyzed in this present literature review in order to recognize the different aspects of implementing technology-enhanced learning approaches. Finally, 20 categories are defined in four main areas that summarize all the aspects in the field of technology-enhanced learning. Moreover, the study also reveals research areas that are important but hardly investigated in the observed journals of this study.

The Educational-Driven Approach for Technology Enhanced Learning

2012

A technology -driven approach within personalized technology-enhanced learning for the teaching of bachelors was presented in previous contributions to WCECS. The focus was on the building of a supportive infrastructure, the developing of the in-house application BIKE (2010) and on the creation of a set of informatics tools for active learning (2011). In this paper, further progress is presented, where the focus is more on the education -driven approach regarding automation of teaching. When programming technology by the teacher, participatory action research showed that, any excellent technology or knowledge base, would basically be "dead" if the teaching content was not transferable into the classroom. To revive the flow of knowledge the examination of teaching for sequences of steps is required together with content unification and the use of specific communication channels for each of the courses of study. If this all works together, then the teacher can select and mix the content of teaching, informatics tools, communication and didactic elements according to the actual requirements of the teaching process. In our case, this resulted inter alia, in the creation of two innovative teaching methods when teaching "how a writing semester works". This radically helped to eliminate a "plagiarism culture" which beginning bachelor students are not aware of. It seems that after some years, an effective didactic methodology was found for this purpose. Further, technological aspects from the practice of TEL are described with the intention to demonstrate examples of how the teaching outputs are made by the "all-in-one" BIKE (which can cover all main topics of the conference). It is also explains the basic principle of how innovative teaching methods can be designed for bachelors from a teacher's point of view when understanding TEL as automation of teaching and learning.

Myths and Realities about Technology Enhanced Learning

2009

The article deals with some myths about teachers’ role in a technology enhanced learning process. The spectrum of myths under discussion ranges from complete rejection of ICT to their overidealization. We have come across these myths in the context of teacher education both in national and international setting. The paper is focusing on several in-service teacher training courses on interactive teaching methods, on new technologies in education, and on computer skills. The main problems are due to the prevailing attempts bringing the new technologies to an existing school setting which is teacher-centered, with practically fixed curriculum, treating ICT as an object of study... Such conditions make it natural for the teachers to feel uncomfortable and even insecure in a technology enhanced environment where students are more experienced technically. We discuss the effects of applying a recently developed methodology (known as I*Teach) towards altering the viewpoint of the teachers a...

TECHNOLOGICAL SKILLS OF UNIVERSITY TEACHERS: IMPLICATIONS WITH TECHNOLOGY AND PEDAGOGY

The impact of information and communication technologies has made that teachers transform their condition, eager about training aspects necessary to understand the implications of these technologies in the educational context, establishing a critical stance before the use of these tools in contexts with ICT. The work is a descriptive research of mixed type, supported on the theory based on a literature review and the use of methods such as data triangulation, in order to correlate surveys and Likert tests. As a result, a proposal it's outlined for teacher training aimed at developing conceptual elements and skills to address the learning in the higher education layer. Some of the conclusions lead to mention the teacher training with conceptual and contextual fundaments for the teacher to acquire participation with the purpose of understanding the particular needs of their pedagogical praxis.

TECHNOLOGICAL ENHANCED TEACHING AND ITS IMPACT

isara solutions, 2021

Technology is a big gift to society created by human. Technology is continuously playing a vital role in civilization and way to change of life. In education, institution has very much adopted the technology to change the procedure of performing their work. The teacher is becoming more familiar and comfortable with technology and gadgets used in educational system. The technology helped to reach the students/learners easily. Various portals such as SWAYAM, DIKSHA, NROER etc. has been developed to facilitate learners with the use of technology in education sector all over the globe. Such shifting from traditional way to technological based educational society has great positive impact on running cost, effectiveness, efficiency, learning enhancements etc.

IMPACT OF TECHNOLOGY ON TEACHING METHODS- A FORWARD LOOK

Teaching is a purposeful process which influences learning. Teaching and learning are closely related. In the modern age teaching-learning are accepted as one concept. Both teaching and learning in the instructional technology aim towards the same goal i.e. to bring desirable changes in the behaviour of the learner. Teaching learning task can be performed at three different levels, ranging from least thoughtful to most thoughtful behaviour or mode of action. The set of things of operations help in achieving the objectives from „knowledge to evaluation‟ and in creating the conditions of learning from “stimulus-response to problem solving.” Models of teaching have been developed to help a teacher to improve his capacity to teach and create a richer and more diverse environment for them. The biological science inquiry model which belongs to the information processing family of models is designed to teach the process of research in biology to affect the ways that student process information and to nurture open mindedness and an ability to suspend judgement and balance alternatives. The investigator feel that student taught with traditional method and Biological Science Inquiry Model based teaching method, have differences in their achievement level. Therefore to assess the achievement level of students the investigator has taken up this problem.

The Use of Technology in Educational Teaching

Journal of Education and Practice, 2017

Today, Information and communication technology has become a way of life in which children are drawn. Today's children are beginning to use digital tools at a very young age, so that the school should respond to the needs of students. Also today it is impossible for any profession performs without the help of information technology. The computer and the Internet gives us endless possibilities and resources in improving the quality of work.Even in education, computer skills and additional equipment are needed, because they create great opportunities for teachers and inspire curiosity, imagination and interest of students.Teachers should not oppose change, but they should use new technology for better quality teaching and make it more interesting.
