Estimation of External Forces Using Local Displacement of Elastic Body (original) (raw)
If intraoperative measurement and physical estimation of the deformed organs are possible during surgery, the conditions of organs will be recognized physically and quantitatively, which will make the recent surgery more safe and reliable. This study proposes a new method for estimating external forces based on local displacement observation of elastic bodies. By our method, we can estimate the magnitude and position of forces not only on the forceps but also in invisible field. Some simulation studies are planned to confirm the effectiveness of the method. The experiments showed that the external forces are successfully estimated by partial observation of the deformed shape.

In order to design industrial products fitting well to the human body, it is necessary to make full use of information of human anatomical landmarks. These landmarks however cannot be extracted automatically from point cloud data of human body surface obtained by a 3D scanner. In our previous report, we proposed the method of extracting the landmarks automatically by deforming the template of point cloud form data with known landmark positions using Free Form Deformation (FFD) method. In this method, it is possible to estimate positions of the landmark by deforming the template model with the anatomical feature retained. However, estimation error in the method was more than permissible amount. This paper discusses an analysis of the factors of estimation error, and proposes revised method of reduced estimated errors for landmarks around the ankle.

This paper reports on the automation technique of live line re-connection included in the electricity distribution work using robot manipulator. There are two major technical issues ;visual measurement of the position of the object in an unstructured outdoor environment and insertion of the wire terminals to a metal sleeve for connection. As a distinctive structure of the work, the distance to the object from CCD camera is quite shorter than the distance to the background. Therefore, we can obtain a clear image of the object while the background is out of focus. We have developed a method of object detection by template matching combined with differential filtering technique of image. The direction of the electric wire and the direction of the sleeve were aligned and the tip of the wire is positioned to the tip of a sleeve using this method. Once the position is reached, the insertion process starts using the compliance control with estimation of the contact force In addition, we have developed procedures for error recovery based on the state transition analysis.
