Project delivery quality (PDQ) is a potential target of the construction team, which is working on enhancing this quality thru project stages: design and construction. A very important side of this work is study and research to investigate the critical factors affecting PDQ. Some former studies uncovered that the delivery methods: Design-Build (DB) and Design-Bid-Build (DBB) notably affecting PDQ. A study appraised the mentioned methods among several features, such as: time, communication, drawings …etc. This paper assumes that there are other critical features to be studied as it's believed to complete the appraisal among DB and DBB. The aim of this paper is to get sound results for deciding which of them will contribute in enhancing PDQ. The paper will run unstructured conversations with design and construction players: owners, consultants (design/supervision), and contractors. They were requested to provide their feedbacks regarding (6) chosen features among DB & DBB. Also, they were asked to justify their scores adding more details. Collected data was organized, tabulated, and analyzed, then discussed, and concluded.
Experience and Results From Implementing Lean Construction in a Large Danish Contracting Firm

MT Hojgaard – the largest contracting firm in Denmark – has in a number of years worked seriously with implementing Lean Construction. Lean methods have been used on more than 30 completed or ongoing construction projects. This paper takes stock of the experience and results obtained in the implementation process by presenting the main findings in our 2002 annual report on lean construction. The outline is as follows. First, an overview of the implementation of Lean Construction in MT Hojgaard is given. This implementation consists of well-known lean methods such as “last planner” and “look ahead”, but more idiosyncratic methods are also presented in this section. For instance, the introduction of a new role on the building site (the “process manager”) and an IT-tool supporting lean-planning (called “PlanLog”). This study evaluates the influence of project plans on the outcome of design-build projects. The purpose is to ascertain whether the level of use of project plans can be utilised to improve the outcome of projects procured by the design-build method. To achieve this purpose, a field survey of 42 projects procured by the design-build method and selected by stratified random sampling was conducted. Data were collected with the aid of structured questionnaires and analysed using percentage, mean and the Spearman correlation test. The results of the study indicate that the level of use of project plans has significant influence on some parameters of the design-build projects' outcome. The results also indicate that the inception, design, tendering and construction plans are not prepared in many of the projects sampled.
