Technical Efficiency of Beef Cattle Breeding Business in East Java Province

East Java has lowlands and uplands with farming areas potential in producing agricultural wastes that can be utilized to improve animal production. This has created opportunity for farmers to improve their cattle farming businesses and their incomes. The aims of this study were (1) to get the characteristic description of cattle farmer households in different land types in East Java, (2) to analyze factors affecting the income of cattle farmer households. A multiple regression by using a SAS software was used for this analysis. Results showed that income of cattle farmer households was affected by number of cattle owned, cow ownership status, and farming location. Meanwhile, total household income was affected by length of education, number of cattle owned, number of working forces in household, cow ownership status, and farming location. It was implied from the study that farmers raise their cattle for longer time in order to gain higher selling prices and that government provide assistance for farmers in form of cow grant in order to improve farmers' cattle ownership and incomes.
Characteristics of Beef Cattle Farmers at Southern West Java

The study aimed to identify characteristics of beef cattle farmers along the street corridor of Southern West Java. The study used a survey method in which purposive sampling technique was applied to collect data from 13 sub-districts of five districts along the street corridor of Southern West Java. Result of the study showed that eight categories of cattle farmers with their respective characteristics, namely: 1) the age of farmers, in the productive category (91%); 2) the level of education, mostly at the level of elementary school education (62%); 3) farming experience, most experience for 11-20 years (30%); 4) the nature of livestock business, is a side business (70.8%); 5) number of family dependents, with the highest number of three family dependents (32%); 6) livestock ownership, is their-self owned (67%); 7) cattle origin, with own purchases namely 46%, and 8) business scale, with many livestock owned by 1-3 beef or 50%.

This research aimed to analyze the revenue optimization of farmer family with ratio of the most ideal farm scale in the integration of Pasundan cattle and paddy farm, and to analyze the most leveraging production factor towards the family revenue. The respondents were 94 farmers who had integrated farming between cattle and paddy. This research used survey method in four regions purposively based on Pasundan cattle centre. Data were analyzed with linear programming and production function of Cobb Douglass. Study on contribution of local beef cattle enterprise on income of dryland farmers in Kupang Regency was conducted from September to December 2016. The study aimed to: (1) determine composition of farm household income in the dry land area of Kupang Regency, Indonesia, (2) analyze contribution of income from local beef cattle enterprise to farm household income. A survey was done on 56 beef cattle farmers who were purposively selected as respondents. All respondents were interviewed using structured questioners with focus on farm household activities and their income. The results showed that total net income of farm household was Rp 14,854,550 per year, out of this Rp3,246,550 to Rp 5,404,750 equals to 21.85 to 36.38% was from local beef cattle enterprise. To enhance the role of beef cattle enterprise, the owner should improve cattle husbandry management through providing good quality and quantity of feed continuously, as well as empowering livestock extension workers to deliver proper information and technology on beef cattle husbandry to the farmer.

Beef cattle fattening is raised by farmers in Central Java, but not yet profit oriented. The aims of this research were to analyze the farmer income of beef cattle fattening farm and its contribution to the total household income and to analyze the influence of production costs and farm size toward beef cattle farm income. Survey was used among 150 beef cattle farmers, while multi stage cluster quota sampling was used as sampling method. Income analysis, paired t test, and multiple linear regression were used for data analysis. Research result showed that the farmer’s income from beef cattle farm is IDR 6,736,824.21 per 6.32 month fattening period on an average farm scale was 2.31 heads (equal to IDR 1,065,953.20/month). The farmers in Southeast Sulawesi, Indonesia have started using the intensive farming system for Bali Cattle rearing in recent decades. This study aimed to determine the profile and income of Bali Cattle farmers under intensive, semi-intensive, and extensive farming systems in Southeast Sulawesi, Indonesia. The research was conducted using the Participatory Rural Appraisal (PRA) method. Profile and income data were collected from 105 farmers selected by purposive sampling. The analytical model used is one-way ANOVA with the farming system as a factor. The results showed that the age of intensive farmers was younger (p<0.05) and had a lower experience of raising livestock (p<0.05) than extensive and semi-intensive farmers. In addition, farmers in the intensive farming system have a higher goal of raising livestock as fertilizer producers (p<0.05) than extensive and semi-intensive. However, semi-intensive and extensive farming systems had a higher average number of cows, net body weight production yield, income, and value-added (p<0.05) than the intensive farming system. Based on the results, it can be concluded that semi-intensive and extensive farming systems generate high incomes and can be more economically sustainable than intensive systems.
Analysis of Bali cattle business income on different scales in Tiworo Tengah District, Indonesia

Bali cattle farming business in Indonesia is generally maintained by rural communities with the application of improvised technology in both feed management and maintenance systems. The beef cattle farming business is said to be successful if it can increase income, meet the needs of the farmer's life, and know the costs incurred by the breeder. This study aims to analyze the income of Bali cattle businesses with different business scales in Tiworo Tengah District, West Muna Regency using a survey method by taking 40 respondents from Bali cattle farmers spread over 8 villages in Tiworo Tengah District. The data collected consists of primary data and secondary data, then analyzed quantitatively and qualitatively using income analysis. The results show that the average income received by small-scale farmers is IDR 695.827/month, medium-scale farmers are IDR 1.439.440/month, and large-scale farmers are IDR 1.768.515/month.
Household Profiles of Beef Cattle Livestock in the Area of Teak Forest, Bojonegoro, East Java

The study was conducted in Napis Village, Tambakrejo District, Bojonegoro Regency with the aim of expressing an empirical profile of the indicators of the empowerment of smallholder beef cattle farmers using sustainable livelihoods framework tools. Data collection method used in this study is by interviewing respondents directly. The type of data used in this study are primary and secondary data and analyzed with descriptive analysis. The analysis shows that the majority of farmer households (45%) maintain 2 to 3 Animal Units (ST). the majority of breeders' education level only graduated elementary school / equivalent of 41.5% and the average experience of raising beef cattle for 8 years. The 'maro' working relationship (33%) is adopted by farmers, besides raising a cow of their own (27.5%). Most (32.5%) of farmers' households control an area of between 600-1000 m2. From the research it can be concluded that the sustainable livelihoods of the household of beef cattle farmers is not enough to be stated only by indicators of livelihoods-status consisting of 5 types of capital, namely: (1) Human Capital, (2) Natural Capital, (3) Financial Capital, (4) Physical Capital, and (5) Social Capital only, but it also needs to include the farmer household resilience component and the farmer household dynamism component.

The research method is a census, which also known as a complete enumeration method, where all individuals in the population are investigated or interviewed as respondents. An Analysis on Business Feasibility and Farmers Income in Semarang of Central Java

Agricultural sector plays an important role in absorbing employments and providing contributions to the Gross Regional Domestic Product of Semarang. The purpose of this research was to figure out the income earned by the farmers as well as farming feasibility. The research object included four agricultural sub-sectors: covering crops, horticultural plants, industrial raw material plants, and cattle breeding. This research employs a purposive sampling method. The research resulted that the average land areas owned by the farmers of crops, horticultural plants and industrial raw material plants was 3,098 square meters, while the average ownership of dairy cattle, beef cattle, broilers, and laying hens was respectively by 9 and 11 cows as well as 7,970 and 1,900 chickens. Moreover, the research showed that the average farmers' income of crops, industrial raw material plants, horticultural plants, and cattle breeders was
