In this paper, we investigate a time-delayed model describing the dynamics of the hematopoietic stem cell population with treatment. First, we give some property results of the solutions. Second, we analyze the asymptotic behavior of the model, and study the local asymptotic stability of each equilibrium: trivial and positive ones. Next, a necessary and sufficient condition is given for the trivial steady state to be globally asymptotically stable. Moreover, the uniform persistence is obtained in the case of instability. Finally, we prove that this system can exhibits a periodic solutions around the positive equilibrium through a Hopf bifurcation.

For the model of periodic chronic myelogenous leukemia considered by Pujo-Menjouet, Mackey et al., model consisting of two delay differential equations, the equation for the density of so-called “resting cells” was studied from numerical and qualitative point of view in several works. In this paper we focus on the equation for the density of proliferating cells and study it from a qualitative point of view.
Stability Analysis of a Feedback Model for the Action of the Immune System in Leukemia
Mathematical Modelling of Natural Phenomena, 2014
A mathematical model, coupling the dynamics of short-term stem-like cells and mature leukocytes in leukemia with that of the immune system, is investigated. The model is described by a system of seven delay differential equations with seven delays. Three equilibrium points E0, E1, E2 are highlighted. The stability and the existence of the Hopf bifurcation for the equilibrium points are investigated. In the analysis of the model, the rate of asymmetric division and the rate of symmetric division are very important.
Absolute stability of a system with distributed delays modeling cell dynamics in leukemia
In this paper we consider a mathematical model proposed recently by Adimy et al. (2008) for studying the cell dynamics in Acute Myelogenous Leukemia (AML). By using the circle and Popov criteria, we derive absolute stability conditions for this nonlinear system with distributed delays. Connections with the earlier results on stability of the linearized model are also made. The results are illustrated with a numerical example and simulations.
Stability of equilibrium and periodic solutions of a delay equation modeling leukemia
2010
We consider a delay differential equation that occurs in the study of chronic myelogenous leukemia. After shortly reminding some previous results concerning the stability of equilibrium solutions, we concentrate on the study of stability of periodic solutions emerged by Hopf bifurcation from a certain equilibrium point. We give the algorithm for approximating a center manifold at a typical point (in the parameter space) of Hopf bifurcation (and an unstable manifold in the vicinity of such a point, where such a manifold exists). Then we find the normal form of the equation restricted to the center manifold, by computing the first Lyapunov coefficient. The normal form allows us to establish the stability properties of the periodic solutions occurred by Hopf bifurcation.
Stability and instability induced by time delay in an erythropoiesis model
2004
We study a mathematical model of erythropoiesis, that is the production of blood cells under the in∞uence of the hormone erythropoietin. Our model consists in a system of two nonlinear delay difierential equations, with the cell cycle duration as the delay. We study the local asymptotic stability of the equilibria by using the characteristic equation of the model and we show the existence of a local Hopf bifurcation.

A mathematical model with time-varying delays in the combined treatment of chronic myeloid leukemia
Advances in Difference Equations, 2012
In this paper, we propose and analyze a mathematical model for the treatment of chronic myelogenous (myeloid) leukemia (CML), a cancer of the blood. Our main focus is on the combined treatment of CML based on imatinib therapy and immunotherapy. Treatment with imatinib is a molecular targeted therapy that inhibits the cells involved in the chronic CML pathogenesis. Immunotherapy based on interferon alfa-2a (IFN-α) increases cancer cell mortality and leads to improvement of outcomes of the combined therapy. Interaction between CML cancer cells and effector cells of the immune system is modeled by a system of non-linear differential equations, where we introduced biologically motivated time-varying delays in the treatment terms. The analysis of the described system shows the existence of a unique global positive solution and a unique non-trivial equilibrium. We also derive explicit local and global stability conditions for the non-trivial equilibrium.
On the stability of hematopoietic model with feedback control
Comptes Rendus Mathematique, 2012
We propose and analyze a mathematical model of the production and regulation of blood cell population in the bone marrow (hematopoiesis). This model includes the primitive hematopoietic stem cells (PHSC), the three lineages of their progenitors and the corresponding mature blood cells (red blood cells, white cells and platelets). The resulting mathematical model is a nonlinear system of differential equations with several delays corresponding to the cell cycle durations for each type of cells. We investigate the local asymptotic stability of the trivial steady state by analyzing the roots of the characteristic equation. We also prove by a Lyapunov function the global asymptotic stability of this steady state. This situation illustrates the extinction of the cell population in some pathological cases.
