The purpose of this research, in general, is to design and develop interactive learning media in the fluid mechanics' course of applications for D3 mechanical engineering students at the Indonesian Naval Technology College (STTAL) to solve learning problems and improve student competence so that independent students can be formed in the learning process. The specific purpose of this research is to produce an interactive learning media, an alternative learning experience that can be accessed anywhere and anytime so that it can provide a deeper understanding and to assess the process and learning outcomes of the fluid mechanics subject in STTAL mechanical engineering D3 study programs. This research uses the R n D, development model. The process of developing interactive learning computer media is carried out in several stages, starting from identification of potentials and problems, data collection, product design, design validation by material experts and media experts, design r...

This research was conducted with a background on the problem of students who have difficulty understanding the pump and compressor application course. This can be seen from the very low student learning outcomes, namely, 60% of the total students have not reached the material standard. Whereas the minimum material mastery standard is 75% of all students. Thus the research output is interactive learning computer media and the research target is that students can understand the subjects of pumps and compressors and can improve student learning outcomes. The method used follows the R n D model. The subjects of this research are students of the D3 Mechanical Engineering study program at the Indonesian Naval Technology College (STTAL) and the research objects to be developed are the pump and compressor application courses. The benefit of this research collaboration is a form of sharing expertise between the curriculum and educational technology majors with STTAL so that it is expected to...
ROLE OF COMPUTERS IN WATER AND ENVIRONMENTAL ENGINEERING EDUCATION
The main objective of this paper is to highlight the importance of the using computer to enhance learning process through e-Learning. It presents a learning management system (LMS) which intention to improve the teaching and learning processes by introducing electronic learning techniques to a selective water and environmental engineering under-graduate courses. Both the Department of Water & Water Structures Engineering and the Department of Environmental Engineering, Faculty of Engineering, Zagazig University (Egypt) were involved. Authors describe experience from the educational project, assistive technology and the way to develop the training materials. The system is designed notably for engineering students to maintain and improve their skills. This developed learning management system abbreviated as "eSWES" is an EU funded project under the TEMPUS-Program. This project was a three-year project on implementing technology tools including virtual learning environment (VLE), video-conferencing, and simulation and visualization was carried out for providing a blended learning environment for undergraduate students. It can be considered as a major initiative in promoting e-Learning towards creating a knowledge-based society. New technologies, such as computer based learning, online courses, distance learning, and in general multimedia applications are being implemented in the project.
Analysis of Using Digital Learning Materials in Engineering Laboratory Courses
The paper presents an analysis of the use of digital learning materials in engineering laboratory courses. Interviews have been conducted with lecturers from several engineering faculties of the University of Ruse 'Angel Kanchev', such as: the Faculty of Electrical Engineering, Electronics and Automation, the Faculty of Transport, and the Faculty of Mechanical and Manufacturing Engineering. The aim of the interviews is to investigate the capacity and understanding of the lecturers in respect to using digital learning materials in laboratory courses. The obtained results demonstrate that digital learning materials are perceived as a useful tool to achieve better engagement of students in the educational processes. This would require continuous additional efforts by the teaching staff and permanent updating of their specific and digital competences.

The development of printed module teaching materials in the form of hard copies into electronic-based modules with an android system or better known as Android-based E-Modules, with this electronic media it can attract students' interest in reading because it makes it easier for students without connecting to the internet continuously. This electronic module can also help students study independently and is a good choice for developing a module. Electronic modules are innovative media that can increase interest in learning. Digital E-Module development uses a research and development (R&D) approach, which is a process used to develop and validate products. Data collection techniques in validating learning material products are carried out by distributing questionnaires. This research was designed in three stages, namely (1) Research in the form of planning and formulation of learning objectives. (2) Development in the form of making E-Modules (3) Formative evaluation and revisio...

Some aspects of the technology enhanced learning in engineering education
2010
Despite the rapid progress of information and communication technology, there is not enough user-friendly desktop applications in the practice which are designed for working with knowledge. In this paper the development of a desktop database application "Writing Pad" is mentioned. This was primarily used for engineering data processing in an industrial laboratory for surface treatment. The application was then developed into the pre-programmed personalised batch knowledge processing environment as a tool for the modelling of technology enhanced learning (TEL) for engineering education at the Slovak University of Technology -Faculty of Materials Science and Technology (FMST SUT). This was especially applied at the detached workplace of the FMST SUT for the tailor made support of bachelor students as an informatics support tool in engineering courses of study : Environmental protection -Semestral projects -Occupational health and safety -Engineering of the workplace environment (till now used by approximately 600 students). Just as, e.g. MS Word -editor enables working with texts, the preprogrammed personalised desktop environment works as a Batch Information and Knowledge Editor (BIKE) which enables working with knowledge in the role of a basic element within engineering education. For these purposes knowledge is defined as a set of structured and unstructured information with a specified content stored in one row of the database table with a default structure. This approach allows for individual users to benefit from the power of the conventional relation database management system (RDBMS) and to work with huge amounts of knowledge just as with the rows of the database table, e.g. in order to automate a teacher's activities. However, the paradigm of the batch processing is different from the conventional relational database and has not yet been described or published. In addition, the preprogrammed environment produces offline and online browsable html -outputs and cooperates with the Windows operating system or other common software (freeware, Open source), including the Academic information systems of the FMST SUT. It provides individuals with personalised technology support for all types of teachers' activities performed within formal, blended, distance, long-life or informal learning. The BIKE has many optional elements of an adaptive and intuitive learning system, and has been developing with a vision to create a sophisticated system rich on information. In the paper, the TEL approach for engineering education is described in the case of ICT support of Mayes' conceptualisation cycle at the FMST SUT and due to better understanding of ICT support, some examples of output screens from teaching processes are presented for each stage of the cycle.
