This paper is an attempt to explain how environment, gender and sustainable livelihoods are innately interconnected, for this the article draws on the examples of Chipkoo and Kolar struggles of women, in the face of appropriation of common property resources. It also highlights the gendered and political aspect of environment. It links environment, gender with sustainable livelihoods in the light of poverty reduction and environment management. The paper throws light on the gendered inequalities unleashed in the capitalist mode of development. It draws on the ecofeminism and Gender, Environment and Development school of thought to establish the significance of gendered policy and programme in the global and local environmental Polity. The paper also reflects on the power relations constructed around gender which impacts the resource justice and accessibility of women. This article draws upon secondary data from published articles and books. It attempts to develop a lens through which the structured inequities constructed in the society in the context of environment and livelihoods can be addressed.
