Exploring Role of Microcredit in Enhancing Women Empowerment : A Qualitative Study

In the current era, researchers throughout the developing countries are highlighting the impact of microcredit programs on women empowerment. Therefore, this research explores what is meant by empowerment and how it is related to women. The study highlights the role of microfinance institutions (MFIs) in enhancing women empowerment and also emphasizes its importance in poverty alleviation. The research uses interview based qualitative approach for in-depth analysis of three MFIs operating in Lahore. The outcomes of the study reveal that MFIs leads to significant improvement in women's social status and their family well-being. The findings further reveal that a rise in awareness regarding women's empowerment in a society leads to increase social status of the whole economy. Thus, the study affirms a significantly positive impact of microcredit program on women's empowerment.

Impact of Microcredit on Women Empowerment: A Case Study in the Context of Chattogram District, Bangladesh

The microcredit sector in Bangladesh has flourished over the past few years by providing financial services to poor women who were previously unreachable, and it has been successful in meeting their fundamental needs, empowering them. This paper is an attempt to find out the role of microcredit on the empowerment of women borrowers in the context of some regions of the Chattogram district. These three Upazillas were surveyed cross-sectionally. A well-structured questionnaire was used to collect data during face-to-face interviews with 50 microcredit women borrowers and 50 non-borrowers from two major microcredit providers in Bangladesh. The Effects of Microcredit on The Empowerment of Women in Northern Region of Bangladesh

The study investigated the effects of microcredit on the empowerment of women in the Northern region of Bangladesh. The leading NGOs namely ASA, BRAC, GRAMEEN BANK, PROSHIKA, SKS and TMSS were targeted for data collection in the three selected districts viz., Gaibandha, Rangpur and Dinajpur in the Northern region of Bangladesh. A total of 247 women (Microcredit borrowers) were selected randomly from the selected districts as the sample of the study. The findings of the study showed that microcredit reduces economic problems of the women and helps to enhance economic empowerment. And also after taking loan or involving with microcredit their family income, expenditure and savings increased significantly. Positive and significant empowerment effects were found for the indicators: intra-HH decision, mobility, and own & child healthcare. It is seen that after taking loan or involving with microcredit decision-making power have changed for the women in all the dimensions used in this study and more importantly the women view such changes rather positively. If interest rates are kept low, payments are collected in a reasonable amount of time, and support in terms of education and advice are granted to borrowers, microcredit can continue to positively impact and empower women in Bangladesh and abroad. It is hoped that the findings of this study would prove to be useful for Government departments, NGO’s, Agencies and Researchers who wish to do further research in the areas mentioned above and may be helpful to the policy makers and planners in formulating plans for national development.

IMPACT OF DEMOGRAPHIC FACTORS ON WOMEN EMPOWERMENT THROUGH MICRO CREDIT – A SPECIAL REFERENCE TO JAFFNA DISTRICT

Rural women play a significant role in the domestic and socio economic life of the society. Therefore nations" development is not possible without developing this segment of the society. Women face numerous challenges in accessing education and health services, as well as economic development. Most micro finance organizations target poor women and usually who excluded from social groups. This study explores the personal demographic factors" influence on empowerment of women in Jaffna District. Quantitative method has been used for gathering information and purposeful sampling method has been used to collect the data. The survey instrument in the form of close-ended questionnaire was developed for the purpose of collecting the main data for the study. Regression analysis has been used to find out the impact of demographical factors on women empowerment and the Independent sample one-way Anova (f-test) and independent sample t-test (t-test) were used to identify the significant mean differences between the degree of women empowerment across the demographic factors. The results showed that the demographic factors surveyed education, occupation and experience influence on women empowerment and that have weak impact on them. Based on the findings, it has been concluded that there is no significant mean differences between the degree of empowerment across the education level, occupation and years of experience.

Does Microcredit Matter for Women Empowerment? A Household Level Study in Khulna District

Objective: The aim of this study is to explore the nexus between microcredit and women empowerment from the dimensions of participation in household decision making, involvement in income generating activities and wealth accumulation; participation in household economic activities; consciousness and mobility; and women rights. Sampling Technique: A total of 80 women including 40 from microcredit takers and 40 from non-takers women were selected randomly to collect the data from two separate villages under Phultala Upazila of Khulna District.
