Effect of Body Weight of Ewes on Birth Weight of Lambs In Rambouillet Breed of Sheep

Data on 1816 darn-Iamb pairs of Rambouillet breed of sheep maintained at Livestock Experimental Station, Jaba, District Mansehra (NWFP) during the period 1957-86 were used to study the effect of body weight of ewes at service on birth weight of lambs. The weight of darn at service and birth weight of lamb averaged 48.66±1.14 and 3.67±0.08 kg, respectively. It has been observed that weight of the dam significantly effect the birth weight of lambs. The correlation and regression coefficients between the above mentioned two traits were 0.30 and 0.042±3.157×1-3. Analysis of variance of weight of the dam at service and birth weight of lambs due to regression revealed that this regression is statistically significant (p<0.01). The results of the present study indicated that the dams weight had a positive relationship with birth weight of lambs which will be helpful in the selection of young lambs even before their birth.
The data pertaining to 669 lambs born to a total of 26 sires spanning over a period of 9 years (1996-2006) were collected from Sheep Breeding Farm, Kralapathri, Kashmir to study the effect of genetic and non-genetic factors on birth weight of Corriedale sheep. The data was analyzed by Mixed Model Least Squares and Maximum Likelihood algorithms, PC-2 version computer programme (Harvey, 1990) to assess the random effect of sire and fixed effects of year, gender, and type of birth weight. The overall mean birth weight of 3.36±0.07 with coefficient of variation of 20.05 (Table 1) was observed in the present study. The effect of sire, year and birth type was highly significant (p<0.01) whereas effect of sex was significant (p<0.05) on the BW in the present study. Heritability of 0 .16± 0.09 and with sexual dimorphism of 1.03 in favor of males was observed in the present study. The phenotypic, genetic and environmental trends of-0.06917,-0.14120 and 0.07200 where observed for BW in the present investigation for Corriedale sheep. The overall breeding value of 3.34±0.05 was observed in the present study. An overall decrease in the performance of the flock with respect to BW was observed in the present study.

In this study, the reproductive and growth performance of Akkaraman sheep between 2017-2021 were evaluated within the scope of the National Sheep and Goat Breeding Project in the Hand of the Public, which is being carried out in the province of Nigde. In the research, data obtained from 30923 animals in 22 farms in 7 villages in the central district of Nigde province were used. In the study, the effect of year, dam’s age, gender and birth type on birth weight (BW), live weight on day 60 (LW1), live weight on day 120 (LW2), daily live weight gain (DLWG) on day 120 were investigated. The effects of year, dam’s age, gender and birth type on BW, LW1, LW2, DLWG were found to be statistically significant. Influence of some factors on fertility and weight if sheep and body weight development of lambs

The research included a total of 921 lambs, 474 ewes and 8 sjenicke sheep rams from 4 different farms. The aim of the research was to examine the influence of the farm, cultivation technology and the influence of rams within the farm on production indicators. Statistical analysis showed that the body weight of lambs at birth ranged from 3.37 to 4.03 kg (average 3.68 kg), at 30 days from 11.51 to 12.41 kg (average 12.07 kg) and from 90 days from 27.82 to 29 kg (average 28.65 kg). A statistically highly significant influence of the farm was determined (P<0.01) on the body weight of lambs in all three control periods, as well as on the body weight of sheep and on the fertility of sheep. Recommended sheep husbandry model and body weights of Morkaraman lambs in Muş province*

This research was carried out in order to determine some reproductive traits, the birth and the weaning weight and daily live weight gain of Morkaraman sheep in different farms of Muş province. The data used in this study was one year data of 2019 year obtained from a total of 28 sheep farms in Muş province. The mean for birth weight and 90th day weaning weight were calculated as 3.79±0.01 and 29.30±0.10 kg. The average daily live weight gain of lambs was found 272.8±0.01 g between birth and 90th day. Means for some reproductive traits as lambing rate, infertility rate, survival rate at 90th day weaaning, fecundity, and litter size were found as 92.2%, 7.8%, 97%, 1.11, and 1.21, respectively. Effect of birth type and dam age on birth and weaning weight and daily live weight gain was found to be statistically significant (p<0.001). Effect of gender on birth (p<0.001) and weaning weight (p<0.05) was found to be statistically significant. The results of this research have shown that source of variation observed for birth and weaning weight in Morkaraman sheep may be the genetic and the environmental. As a result, it has been recommended to perform the improvement studies in mutton production from Morkaraman sheep and growth features can be used as a breeding criterion to improve meat yield.
Phenotypic Variations in Birth and Body Weight of the Local Sheep at Earlier Age

The aim of this study was to investigate the phenotypic variations in birth and body weights at various ages of local sheep, total of 37 heads, born as singletons n =13, twins n = 19, triplets n =5. The lambs were reared at two locations Purwakarta and Jatinangor under extensive feeding system and grazing. All animals were weighed monthly till six months of age by hang scale (kg). Data analyzed by SAS (version 9.0). Means ± SE for the birth and body weights were performed. Analysis of variance GLM was done to examine the effects of sex, type of birth and location on the measured variables. Performance of Kajli sheep in Pakistan: Reproduction as influenced by environment
The objective of the present study was to estimate non-genetic factors influencing reproductive performance of Kajli sheep in Pakistan. Data on 16,470 birth records of 5311 Kajli ewes (Ovis aries) maintained at the Livestock Experiment Station Khushab, and Khizarabad during 1977-94 were utilized. The statistical analysis was carried out using Harvey's Mixed Model Least Squares and Maximum Likelihood software. The influence of different environmental factors on reproductive traits of economic importance was also estimated through statistical analysis referred to as above. Mean age and weight at first service were 644.8±2.79 days and 40.7±0.10 kg, respectively. Data on 3984 lambing records of 1285 Lohi ewes kept at the Livestock Experimental Station, Bahadurnagar, Okara for the period 1980-2011 were analyzed by using Harvey's Mixed Model Least Squares and SPSS Computer Programme. The purpose was to estimate the magnitude of various environmental sources of variation influencing birth weight in this breed of sheep. The least squares mean for birth weight was 3.60± 0.03 kg. The trait was significantly (P< 0.01) & (P< 0.05) influenced by the year and season of birth, type of birth and the sex of the lamb born. The age of the dam also had significant effect on birth weight of the lamb; the younger ewes produced lighter (3.48 ± 0.03 kg) lambs than older ewes (3.69 ± 0.03 kg).
