Related papers
Purpose: The study aims to examine and evaluate the impact of five Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) factors, i.e., Commitment of management, Communication, Training & Education, Health Care and Policies in predicting construction workers' behavior in construction projects of Oman. Design/methodology/approach: A questionnaire was designed, and data was collectedon arandom sampling basis. Two hundred and fifty-two samples were collected, and the data was analyzed using Smart PLS-Structural Equation Modeling (SEM) technique. Findings: The study shows thatCommitment of management, Communication, and Training &Educationplays a pivotal role in inspiring the construction workers to improve their perception towards Health and Safety behavior. These factors help in theclear-cut understanding of safety issues and aid in skills development and increase capabilities. All the factors influence the sustainable positive OHS results. Research limitations/Implications: The present study covers only the construction workers. Entire stakeholders involved in construction project (contractors, clients, and consultants) can be included for further studies. Social Implications: The study will help to improve the Health and Safety practices in the construction industry and expected to bring in more awareness among workers, which will inevitably bring in a culture of safe behavior. The ultimate result will be a substantial reduction or elimination in safety-related incidents, which helps all the stakeholders (Contractors, Clients and Consultants). Originality/Value: Only a very few have examined the impact of Occupational Health and Safety factors on the workers' behavior, and usage of Smart PLS is a novel idea, and it is a first-hand study of its kind.
Effect Of Occupational Safety And Health On Performance An Empirical Investigation
2020
Employees are important assets of the organization, so many things that need to be considered related to improving performance. An employee's performance will be in accordance with the wishes of the company if the quality of human resources is good. Good performance can also be supported by the presence of occupational safety and health guarantees from the company. The Implementation of the Occupational Safety and Health (OSH) system also influences employee performance. This study aims to determine the effect of Occupational Safety and Health (OSH) on the performance of midwives at the XYZ Islamic Hospital Fetomatenal Installation Riau Province, Indonesia. The results of analyze of primary data using SPSS Version 23, it can be concluded that the work safety variable has a significant effect on performance, knowing that occupational health variables have a significant effect on performance. In addition, it can be concluded that occupational safety and health variables together ...
Occupational Safety and Health Administration Factorial Study
Journal of Multidisciplinary Engineering Science and Technology (JMEST) ISSN: 2458-9403, 2020
Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) consideration in Nigeria appears to be at its infantry level and far from world best practices. Several factors are associated with OSHA, Incidentally the major problem is that the individual role and collective interplay among these factors are not completely implied. This study therefore seeks to use Kendall's Coefficient of Concordance (KCC) to rank 52 identified variables and successively apply Principal Component Analysis (PCA) to ascertain the degree of interaction among these variables. The essence of this study is to use the individual and collective role of these factors for a re-contextualization of OSHA portable concept and subsequently forge a framework for developing a normative safety culture in Nigeria. KCC was used to rank 52 identified variables in descending order of importance. Afterwards, the PCA was used to analyse a set of questionnaires crafted with the 52 variables and administered to knowledgeable respondents in the industry. Statistical software adopted gave several outputs which include: screeplot, eigenvalues, descriptive statistic, eigenvector, unrotated factor loading, case-wise factor scores, correlation matrix, varimax rotated factor loadings, explained variance, factor plot, inter alia. Finally, factor interpretation was rendered. Our result established five important factors which were creatively labelled "Principal Factor'', 'Accident Management", ''Systematization'', '' Safety Ground Rules'' and "Miscellany.'' These five factors form a framework for establishing a normative safety work culture for any organization. Taken together, the models employed have provided enlightenment on the appearance of current situation of the work world.
Successful implementation of Occupational Health and Safety Management Systems (OHSMSs) ensures the safety of employees and protects their health and thus has an important role in increasing their productivity and efficiency. This role is an important tool for companies in realization their objectives and in reducing social cost. Therefore, there is a great benefit in increasing the success of OHSMSs. In this study, it has been aimed to identify factors affecting and to appreciate which factors have the greatest impact on the success of OHSMSs implemented by ground handling companies operating at airports in Turkey. The data were collected from senior OHSMSs' managers and experts by using nominal group technique. The results of the study indicated that professional independence of OHS practitioners, place of the senior management's OHSMS commitment in the implementations , senior management's awareness of OHSMS implementations, resource allocated by senior management to OHSMS implementations and the continuity of the OHSMS audits play an important role for the successful implementation of the OHSMSs. Professional independence of OHS practitioners being an extremely important success factor draws the attention since it does not stand out in the findings of the other researches.
Analysis of Current Occupational Health and Safety Situation and Needs of SMEs in Turkey (2012)
The aim of this paper is to examine the current state and needs of SMEs in Turkey regarding OHS. A survey was conducted with a participation of 200 SMEs in the Marmara Region consisting of both employees and employers. The survey includes sections related to OHS management and training systems that currently take place in SMEs such as policies, procedures, difficulties in OHS applications, costs, and issues regarding training. The survey results confirmed the previous work prepared by international and EU authorities in this area, and showed that there is still great need and demand on further training and lack of new learning applications. However, the findings of the survey also indicate that with regard to some aspects of OHS management and training systems, there are some variations across the industries that can be of potential use and benefit for the decision makers in Turkey.
The successful implementation of occupational health and safety management systems (OHSMS) plays a major role in ensuring the safety of employees, protecting their health and, thereby, increasing their effectiveness and productivity. This role is a significant tool for companies to use in order to achieve their goals and to reduce public costs. Therefore, increasing the success rate of occupational health and safety management systems will be highly beneficial. The aim of this study is to identify the factors affecting the success of occupational health and safety management systems implemented by ground handling companies in Turkey. A qualitative research method is preferred, as the main goal is to collect in-depth data by taking context into account. Qualitative data is collected through open-ended questionnaires, with twenty four occupational health and safety (OHS) professionals, working at ground handling companies at different airports. The data is analysed by an inductive qualitative data analysis method. Success factors emerged under the themes of positive safety culture, support of senior management, attitudes and characteristics of stakeholders, OHSMS practices and OHS professionals. The safety commitment of senior management and the organisation in general, the level of support provided by senior management to OHSMS in terms of human resources, time pressure imposed by stakeholders, and the quality and amount of OHS training are seen as the most critical success factors.
