PRINCIPALS’ ADMINISTRATIVE STYLE AND TEACHERS’ JOB PERFORMANCE: PREDICTOR FOR SECONDARY SCHOOL EFFECTIVENESS IN EHIME MBANO LOCAL GOVERNMENT AREA OF IMO STATE

The study explored principals' administrative styles and teachers' job performance as predictors for secondary school effectiveness in Ehime Mbano local government area of Imo state. The research design adopted for the study is the survey design. The population for the study comprises of 204 teachers and principals in Ehime Mbano local government area of Imo state. Sample random technique was adopted in selecting 16 Principals and 136 secondary school teachers in Ehime Mbano giving a total of 152 respondents. The instrument used for data collection was a self-constructed questionnaire called "Principals Administrative Styles and Teachers Job Performance on Secondary Schools Effectiveness" (PASTJPSSE) which containing 21 items spread over three clusters A, B, and C. The sections contained 15 items designed to elicit questions related to the study. The instrument was subjected to face and content validation by three experts, two from the department of educational management and planning, and one from educational measurement and evaluation, all in Imo state University, Owerri. The reliability was established through test retest method. The instrument was administered to 5 principals and 10 teachers outside the study zone. They were tested again after a week interval. The reliability was established using Pearson Product Moment Correlation coefficient statistics obtained 0.86 which was considered high enough for the instrument to be reliable. The researcher drawn conclusion from the findings that principals should adopt good communication pattern, involve teachers and staff in decision making, become less autocratic and bureaucratic and imbibe democratic leadership style the effectiveness of the school will be achieved.

Headteachers’ Administrative Duties and Teacher Job Performance in Public Junior High Schools at Agona Swedru, Ghana

The study investigated the relationship between headteachers’ administrative duties and teacher job performance in public Junior High Schools at Agona Swedru in the Agona West Municipality of the Central Region of Ghana. This study adopted the quantitative correlational research design. Teachers in all public Junior High Schools at Agona Swedru in the Central Region of Ghana, formed the target population, while the accessible population covered all teachers in public Junior High Schools at Agona Swedru who had spent at least a year in their respective schools. Simple random sampling technique was used to obtain 70 teachers whose responses to items in closed-ended questionnaire were used for the analysis for this study. Management of school related variables and teachers’ job effectiveness in secondary schools in Calabar South Local Government Area, Cross River State was the main thrust of this study. Four research questions were raised, and four hypotheses were formulated to direct the study. The descriptive survey design was adopted for the study while the total population of 208 secondary school teachers in Calabar South Local Government Area were selected for the study using census technique. A questionnaire titled “Management of School Related Variables and Teachers’ Job Effectiveness in Secondary School Questionnaire (MSRVTJESSQ)” designed by the researcher was used as instrument to collect data from the respondents. The null hypotheses were tested at 0.05 level of significance using Pearson Product Moment Correlation, Independent t-test, and One-Way Analysis of Variance statistical techniques where applicable. It was found that; managing class size, school management style, and school location has a significant influence on teachers’ job effectiveness respectively in Calabar South Local Government Area of Cross River State. It was recommended amongst others that; school principals should ensure that they adopt a more contingent management style where different situations will warrant the use of different technique; and the recommended teacher-pupils’ ratio of 1:35 should be maintained.

PRINCIPALS’ SUPERVISORY PRACTICES AND TEACHERS’ JOB PERFORMANCE IN PUBLIC AND PRIVATE SECONDARY SCHOOLS IN EKSTI STATE

This study investigated the difference between public and private secondary schools in Ekiti-State with regard to principals’ supervisory practices and teachers' job performance. Three hundred and seventy teachers including the principals drawn from twenty public and private secondary schools in the sixteen local government areas of Ekiti-State through stratified random sampling technique were used for this study. Descriptive research survey was used for the study. A validated questionnaire titled “Principals Supervisory Practice and Teachers job performance” (PSPTJP) was administered on the teachers and principals. t-test statistics was used to test all the hypotheses at 0.05 level of significance. The findings revealed no significant difference between public and private secondary school in Ekiti State with regards to principals supervisory practices and Teachers job performance. Based on the findings, it was therefore recommend that both the Principals and teachers in the public and private secondary schools in the state should be given enough incentives and provided with conducive working environments so as to attain higher job-performance on their pans.

This study investigated the relationship between administrative task performance of principals’ and teachers' productivity. Two research questions and two hypotheses guided the study. The correlation research design was used. The population for the study was the 247 public senior secondary schools in Rivers State with 247 principals’ administration as respondents. A sample of 150 principal administrations was used as respondents for the study. Stratified random sampling was used to draw the sample size. This study examined administrative roles of principals on teacher’s job performance in private secondary schools in Nigeria. The study adopted descriptive survey design. Influence of Principals’ Management Practices on Teachers’ Job Performance in Secondary Schools in Kaduna State, Nigeria

This study examines the influence of principals’ management practices on teachers’ job performance in secondary schools in Kaduna State. To guide the study, two (2) research questions and two (2) null hypotheses were raised. Descriptive research design was used for the study with the total population of 15,135. Purposive sampling technique was used to select three hundred and seventy-eight (378) respondents. Based on the theoretical and empirical constructs of the study variables, the researcher designed a close-ended questionnaire on five-point Likert scale which was administered to the 378 selected respondents randomly. Principal Administrative Challenges and Funding for Teachers Effectiveness in Secondary Schools in Ekiti State

This study examined principals' Administrative challenges, funding and teachers' effectiveness in secondary schools in Ekiti State. The study specifically examined the extent to which principals' administrative challenges have hindered teachers' effectiveness. It also investigated the level of teachers' effectiveness. The study adopted the descriptive research design of the survey type. The population of the study comprised all the 203 principals and 7,538 teachers in 203 secondary schools in Ekiti State. The sample consisted 30 principals and 300 teachers drawn from 30 public secondary schools in Ekiti state using multi-stage sampling procedure. Two sets of instruments tagged 'principals Administrative Challenges Questionnaire (PACQ)''and 'Teachers Effectiveness Questionnaire (TEQ)'' were used for the study. The two instruments were validated by experts in Educational Management and Test and Measurement to determine the appropriateness in order to ensure the face and content validity. The test retest method of reliability was used to ascertain the reliability of the PACQ and TEQ and a reliability coefficient of 0.82 and 0.80 were obtained respectively. The research questions were answered using frequency count and percentage scores why Pearson Product Moment Correlation was used to test the hypothesis. The findings showed that the level of principals' Administrative challenges in Ekiti State was moderate and the level of teachers' effectiveness in Ekiti State was low. There was a significant relationship between principals' administrative challenges and teachers' effectiveness. It was therefore recommended that government should ensure adequate funding for secondary schools as and when due and provision of other incentives for smooth running of the school administration.

Principals’ administrative competence and teachers’ work performance in secondary schools in Calabar Education Zone of Cross River State, Nigeria

Article History The focus of this study was to investigate "principals' administrative competence and teachers work performance" in Calabar Education zone. Four null hypotheses were tested in the course of the study. Correlational research design was adopted, while purposive sampling technique was used in selecting a sample of 800 teachers. Two instruments were used for data collection including "Principals' Administrative Competence Questionnaire (PACQ)," and Teachers' Work Performance Questionnaire (TWPQ)." Pearson Product Moment Correlation Analysis (r) and multiple regression (R) analysis were employed to test the hypotheses at .05 level of significance were applicable, with the aid of SPSS v21. Findings from the study revealed that; principals' supervisory, leadership and communication competences are significantly related to teachers' work performance in terms of instructional delivery, attendance to classes, notes writing, and record keeping respectively. It was also revealed that; principals' supervisory, leadership and communication competences have significant composite influence on teachers' work performance in terms of instructional delivery (p < .05; F = 26.764), attendance to classes (p < .05; F = 109.122), notes writing (p < .05; F = 228.118), and record keeping (P < .05; F = 468.793). Based on these findings, it was recommended amongst others that; such techniques as close supervision of teachers, good leadership styles, and effective communication should be jointly practiced by secondary school principals in order to improve teachers' work performance. Contribution/Originality: This paper contributes with the findings that; principals' administrative competence in terms of supervision, leadership, and communication influence teachers work performance relatively and compositely, in terms of instructional delivery, attendance to classes, notes writing and record keeping. It addresses the gap existing in the literature where earlier studies did.
