Noise pollution is considered to be one of the biggest problems in any urban livelihoods. Unplanned urbanization coupled with rapid growth of vehicular population causes increasing trend of noise pollution problem. Industrial activity, construction activity, use of loud speakers & public addressing systems, vehicular horns and other mechanical devices etc. in and around the town are the various noise sources have contributed deleterious effect on human health. The present study is an evaluation of present trend of noise in the Udaipur town areas. Equivalent noise levelis monitored in nine different stations in different parts of the town area and observed that the noise level is much above the statutory limits of Central Pollution Control Board. This study reveals that some areas of Udaipur town are highly exposed to the noise pollution.

Noise pollution is a growing problem across the world and one which many people may not be aware of the impacts on their health. The environmental noise, and in particular the road traffic noise, remains a major environmental problem affecting the health and well-being of millions of people. With this background, a comprehensive ‘noise pollution assessment study’ was undertaken for a busy traffic corridor of Ahmedabad city of India. The traffic corridor which spans around 22.25 km passes through a mix of different areas like educational, commercials and residential. A two week long field survey was carried out on this corridor during 10-23 May, 2018 at 24 locations spread over the entire corridor. Assessment on different levels of noise pollution in Aizawl City, Mizoram, India
Assessment of noise pollution was carried out in Aizawl city of Mizoram during August 2009 to July 2011. Different levels of noise were recorded from industrial zones, commercial zones, residential zones and silence zones by using Sound Level Meter 2031/A. Of all the four zones, residential zones and silence zones were found to exceed the standard prescribed by the Noise Pollution (Regulation and Control) Rules, 2000. Among the commercial zones New Market and Zangena Petrol Pump exceed the standard level. And all the study sites under industrial zones were within the standard level. Detailed information is presented in the paper.
Besides growing levels of air and water pollution, road traffic induced noise pollution has been recognized as potential threat to feasible quality of life especially in the urban areas. The accelerated pace of economic development urbanization, and increased vehicular mobility has affected remotest location of India and the Himalayan state of Uttarakhand is no exception to it. The serenity and tranquility for which it’s acknowledged globally, is growingly affected by traffic induced noise pollution caused by inflating Pilgrimage/tourism industry, rampant road constructions, encroachment, traffic mismanagement etc. The peak pilgrimage season brings with it uncontrolled traffic influx in the region. All the major pilgrimage towns located on the national Highway from Rishikesh to Badrinath are affected by the vehicular Noise pollution and traffic congestion especially during the holy pilgrimage season. The study tries to evaluate the Noise pollution problem in one of the important towns of Uttarakhand ‘Srinagar ’located 105 kms upstream from Rishikesh, on NH-58. Heavy movement of traffic and illegitimate usage of horns is considered main cause of noise pollution in the town which grows irrationally during the yatra season. The average number of vehicular flow was observed to be 890 vehicles/day during the yatra season (May) as compared to 575 vehicles/day during the non yatra season(January). The the average noise intensity levels of the town was recorded to be 70dB and noise levels have reached at an alarming stage. It was observed that in 4/5 noise monitoring location, the noise intensity was above the prescribed noisestandard level of Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB), and Bureau of Indian Standard (BIS). The vulnerability to various noise induced health hazards was also very high in the area because the valve of R was 0.78.
Integration and comparison of assessment and modeling of road traffic noise in Baripada town, India

The road traffic is the predominant source of noise pollution in urban areas. Despite enactment of legislations and despite effort from Government level to abate vehicle noise, the noise exposure of people of India due to road traffic has hardly changed, but has increased day by day due to growth of vehicular population. Thus, an attempt had been made to assess the noise level in 12 different squares (major intersection points) of Baripada town during four different specified times (7-10 a.m., 11 a.m.-2 p.m., 3-6 p.m., 7-10 p.m.). The equivalent noise levels of all the 12 squares were found to be much beyond the permissible limit (70 dB during day time). Noise descriptors such as L10, L50, L90, Leq, TNI (Traffic Noise Index), NPL (Noise Pollution Level) and NC (Noise climate) were assessed to reveal the extent of noise pollution due to heavy traffic in this town. It is pertinent to mention here that even the minimum Leq and NPL values were more than 70.9 dB and 88.4 dB, respectively...

The problem of road traffic noise pollution has become a concern for both the public and the policy makers. Noise level was assessed in 12 different squares of Rourkela city during different specified times (7-10 a.m., 11 a.m.-2 p.m., 3-6 p.m., 7-10 p.m., 10 p.m.-12 midnight and 4-6 a.m.). Noise descriptors such as L,eq, traffic noise index, noise pollution level, noise climate, Lday, Levening, Lnight and Lden were assessed to reveal the extent of noise pollution due to heavy traffic in this city. The equivalent noise levels of all the 12 squares were found to be much beyond the permissible limit (70dB during day time and 55dB during night time). Appallingly, even the minimum L eq and NPL values were more than 82 dB and 96 dB during day time and 69 dB and 91 dB during night time respectively. Study of Road Traffic Noise Sound Pressure Levels in Varanasi City , India

Traffic noise is considered as one of the important sources of noise pollution that adversely affects human health in residential urban areas. It is strongly time dependent and to account for this feature, measurements of noise parameters are essential. The noise parameters such as L10, L50, L90, Leq, TNI, and NPL are used to describe and quantify the sporadic and random manner that transportation noises impinge on the acoustic environment. A study was carried out to assess the existing status of noise levels and its impacts on the environment with a possibility of a further expansion of the Varanasi city.
Evaluation of Environmental Noise in Urban areas: A Noise Pollution Assessment Approach

Noise Pollution has become a serious health issue nowadays and emerging as a serious pollutant. This study is carried out in three semiurban towns to evaluate the impact of noise pollution in these areas. A total of 69 locations are selected in Asansol, Bankura, and Midnapore town including the Silent, Residential, Commercial, and Industrial zone. Since the noise level varies with atmospheric conditions, hence the study is divided into premonsoon, monsoon, and post-monsoon seasons. L1, L5, L10, L50, L90, L95, L99, Equivalent sound pressure level (Leq), Noise climate (NC), Noise pollution level (Lnp), and Noise traffic Index (TNI) were computed for evaluating the intensity of noise pollution. The result reveals that the equivalent sound pressure level (Leq) is much higher than the standards in all locations of the silent zones. Noise pollution level (Lnp) and Noise traffic Index (TNI) are also computed high in commercial and heavy traffic zones. The Noise climate (NC) value shows not much variation in noise intensity with pre-post and monsoon climates. This is a pioneer study on noise quality evaluation in these locations. This study will further help in preparing future management plans to combat noise pollution in these areas.
Modelling of Road Traffic Noise in Selected Areas of Nashik City

Most of the cities in India are facing serious noise pollution problems due to the concentration of motor vehicles and human population within the limited urban areas. The increase in noise pollution with increase in vehicular population is obvious. The study presents the status of noise pollution in selected areas of Nashik due to road traffic. The study was conducted using sound level meter at selected period of time and at selected locations. The study indicated that the noise levels in commercial areas, out of the study area under consideration, exceeded permissible levels. The results can be used for traffic management, land use planning and polluition control
