It is a psychophysical condition which affects an individual's productivity, effectiveness, personal health and quality of work. Teacher stress is a specific type of occupational stress. Teaching profession can be identified as a stressful occupation in this modern challenging world which can adversely affect the health of the teachers which in turn affects the students and the learning environment. In India, the average strength of class is about 60-70 students. This might make teachers feel stress. As they have to cater the needs of each & every child, fulfilling the learning needs of 70 students simultaneously can be a daunting task for a teacher. Objective: In this paper, attempts have been made to study the level of stress among male and female teachers working in government, semi-government and private schools. Methodology: Three government, semi-government and private schools were selected to draw the sample randomly. Approximately 10 school teachers were selected from every school using stratified random sampling, this makes a total of 90 school teachers. Data was collected through Teacher Stress Scale by Dr. Tinku De. Frequency, percentage, mean, standard deviation and t-test were done using SPSS version 20.0. Results: Findings revealed that the highest number of male teachers is in average stress level whereas maximum female teachers were under above average level of stress. In comparison to government school teachers; semi government and private school teachers were under more stress. Thus, it can be concluded that male and female teachers working in government, semi government and private schools lies under almost the similar level of stress. To help teachers to manage stress, authorities and policy makers should facilitate supportive and collaborative culture; should provide training for stress and time management, specific training to manage the behaviours of disruptive people; should provide leisure facilities to the faculty and should encourage involvement of faculty in decision-making. Introduction Interest in the area of occupational stress among teachers increased in 1970’s since then considerable research has been conducted in many countries. It is an important area of research for educationists and researchers. A number of surveys has pointed to the comparatively stressful nature of teaching. According to a survey conducted by health and safety executive report (2002), which explores levels and occupational stress among various occupational groups, reveals that teaching profession, was on top of the stress prone occupation, in UK 41.5% of teachers reporting themselves as ‘highly stressed’. Another survey conducted in North Carolina revealed nearly 28% teachers resigned because their job was badly affecting their health. They want to change their occupation (Annual report teachers leave the profession 2007).Consequently the hours the teachers put in according to Gardener (2012) may be as many as 48 hours which is more hours than many professionals put in per we...

International Education & Research Journal, 2020
Teacher is the person, who has strength to change the world through education. The tenure of teacher is doesn't matter because whole life they scattered the seeds of their knowledge in whole society. They face many challenges in their personal as well as professional working conditions; these conditions may affect their mental health. Stress is a psychological disorder; it is very difficult to keep this type of stress away from today's world of rapid industrialization and increasing urbanization. Work-related stress is a vital factor to job satisfaction. Due to this stress, a person is neither able to work properly at his workplace nor is able to fulfill their own personal responsibilities. Teaching profession can be identified as a stressful occupation in this modern challenging world which can adversely affect the health of the teachers which in turn affects the students and the learning environment. Job stress has become a common term in today's parlance. In every organization, the main cause of low productivity appears to be stress at workplace. The aim of the study is to find out the occupational stress level of government and private secondary school male teachers. The scale used in the study has been developed by Dr. A.K. Srivastava, and Dr. A.P. Singh. At the end of the study, it was seen that government school teachers have less occupational stress levels than compare to private school teachers.
Occupational stress can be inadvertently linked to success or failure at one’s job. The general impression about occupational stress is the feeling of failure due to work overload. But if this is the case and so simple a problem than merely by reducing the amount of work, occupational stress could have been done away with. However the problem is not that easy to pinpoint. It is here that a comparative investigation of the reasons of stress in different occupations becomes important. Herein lays the most crucial significance of the study. To combat a problem the awareness of the conditions, which lead to it, are very important. Stress is a part of everyone’s daily life. It means that the person cannot cope with the demands put forward by his or her work, which is opposite to their expectations of rewards and success. It affects both the person concerned and the relationships he or she forms in the society be it with family or friends. Although the importance of individual differences cannot be ignored, scientific evidence suggests that certain working conditions are stressful to most people. The excessive workload demands and conflicting expectations and puts a greater emphasis on working conditions as the key source of job stress, and for job redesign as a primary prevention strategy. In jobs where work overload is the cause of the stress, the workers find that they have to take time off to deal with the stress, only to return to work to find that the already unmanageable workload has substantially increased in their absence.
