The Casamance as an Area of Intense Language Contact: The Case of Baïnounk Gubaher (original) (raw)
This paper explores the linguistic diversity and contact phenomena among the Baïnounk languages in the Casamance region of Senegal, specifically focusing on the Gubaher variety. The study highlights the historical and sociolinguistic factors contributing to the complex language landscape shaped by multilingualism, dialect variation, and the influences of surrounding languages. Through fieldwork conducted in various communities, the research aims to provide a detailed micro-level analysis of language contact, documenting the structural characteristics and shared features across the Baïnounk languages despite their mutual unintelligibility.
