The Effect of Islamic Work Ethics on Organizational Commitment

Islamic work ethics is a concept of ethics that is based on Islamic teaching and principle which rely on faith. Meanwhile, organizational commitment is related to employees' attachment and behaviour towards organization. A structural model was constructed to test the effects of Islamic work ethics on organizational commitment. 156 respondents from randomly selected SMEs that involved in retail trade textile service located in Selangor, Kuala Lumpur and Johor were given six-point Likert scale questionnaire. The study found that the structural model is acceptable in term of validity and reliability thus can be used to measure the relationship between two variables. The study also found that Islamic work ethics affects organizational commitment and its three dimensions; affective, normative and continuance commitment.

Background: Strong organizational commitment is needed by hospitals to attract and retain nursing staffs in order to consistently deliver good quality of nursing services. Background. The Shariah hospital aims to provide health services inclusive of the appropriate code of ethics of Sharia, which exceeds the standard of service expected of conservative hospitals. Hospital care depends on the performance of health professionals. The study aimed to assess the relationship between the implementation of the ethical code of Shariah hospitals and the performance of health personnel. Methods. The study is a quantitative analysis that collects cross-sectional data from 119 health personnel respondents in one Shariah hospital in Indonesia. This study aims to redesign and find out the role of Islamic work ethics in influencing Islamic motivation, affective commitment, job satisfaction, and employee performance. Respondents in this study are populations of various cross-sectoral and cross-profession employees, such as government and private workers, soldiers, educators (teachers and lecturers) in various offices in Central Java. 220 questionnaires were distributed to all respondents, but the number of the returned questionnaires was 200. Introduction: A recent international survey discovered that nurses face a wide variety of ethical dilemmas. The intrinsic value of human thought and reliability can still be argued in major nursing ethics theories, such as deontology and utilitarianism. A Muslim nurse must be versed in Islamic thought. This research measures association of Islamic work ethics (IWE) with employees’ job satisfaction, organizational commitment and work performance in perspective of private sector organizations of Pakistan. Entire data collected via survey questionnaire from senior management to first line managers. In order to carry out this investigation, the participants which were targeted for data collection were quite familiar to and practice IWE at work. PLS SEM practices were applied on 228 cases for testing of hypotheses formulated in conceptual model. The findings demonstrate IWE as major predictor of satisfaction, commitment and performance. Employees practicing IWE seemed to have stability and longevity with the organization which indicates lesser employee quitting. The objective of the study was to examine the direct and indirect influences of Islamic work ethics on employees behavior toward organization change with organizational commitment as mediation. The population of the study was Public Civil Servants of the general inspectors of finance ministry. The samples were taken by Solvin method. It was a purposive sampling with 87 respondents. The results of the study showed that there was a direct influence of Islamic work ethics on organizational commitment, there was not any direct influence of organizational commitment on employees behavior toward organizational change, there was an indirect influence of Islamic work ethics on employees behavior toward organization change with organizational commitment as the mediation. It is concluded that there were a direct and an indirect influences of Islamic work ethics on employees behavior toward organizational commitmen as the mediation.
What Predisposing Factors Affect Nurses’ Islamic Behavior?

The quality of hospital services continues experiencing competition that requires new innovations to nurses. Nurses as providers of nursing care are not only required to achieve physical healing of patients, but also psychological, spiritual, and social aspects, by applying Islamic behavior in every action. In Islamic behavior is influenced by several factors including knowledge of Islamic behavior and attitudes towards Islamic behavior. This research was conducted to determine the predisposing factors (knowledge and attitudes) that influence the Islamic behavior of nurses. The research was an analytical survey with a cross-sectional study approach (cross section). The study was conducted in February-August 2019. The population in this study were all inpatient nurses in Aisyiyah Muntilan Hospital, Magelang Regency, with 57 people using purposive sampling, a sample of 49 nurses who were in accordance with the inclusion criteria. The data obtained from the questionnaire measuring instrument with the checklist method. Bivariate analysis using the Spearman test Rank α = 0.05 significance level 95%. The results of the correlation analysis of predisposing factors produced data on the relationship between knowledge about Islamic behavior with Islamic behavior, it was found that the p value = 0.001 and r = 0.537. The relationship between attitudes towards Islamic behavior with Islamic behavior obtained probability p value = 0.092 and r = 0.246. There was a relationship between knowledge about Islamic behavior with Islamic behavior of nurses. There was no relationship between attitudes towards Islamic behavior and Islamic behavior of nurses. So, it can be concluded that of the two predisposing factors, which influence nurses' Islamic behavior is the knowledge factor about Islamic behavior. From the results of this study, it was necessary to make policies to improve and maintain nurses' knowledge and attitudes so that the Islamic behavior of nurses can increase in the provision of nursing care.
THE COMMITMENT TO ISLAMIC WORK ETHICS AMONG ISLAMIC BANKING EMPLOYEES IN ACEH
Ethics play an important role in producing ethical staffs for managing an organization. Ethical staffs perform their duties ethically and offer the best services to the customers. Islamic banking institutions, as Shariah compliant financial institutions, should encourage their employees to implement Islamic work ethics (IWE) to enhance their performance. This article aims to examine the level of IWE commitment among employees of Islamic banks in Aceh. It specifically compares the employee's commitment level on IWE between three categories of Islamic banking in Aceh, namely, the Islamic Commercial Bank (ICB), the Islamic Business Unit (IBU), and the Islamic Rural Bank (IRB). The study employed a quantitative approach in collecting data. The questionnaire surveys were distributed to 268 employees in seven Islamic banks. Of that number, only 208 94 were usable. The results of the findings reveal that employees of the selected Islamic banks in Aceh have very high commitment to implementing IWE in their daily routines. An analysis of the banking categories shows that the employees who work within the IBU have the highest commitment in practicing IWE in their daily jobs, and, statistically, differ from those who work in the other two categories.

Current literatures show that study on work ethics is gaining popularity among researchers for a very obvious reason, namely the threat of moral hazards. Cases of corporate scandals and collapses provide evidence that moral misconducts among employees have contributed to the financial disaster of many companies. It is believed that there is a possible relationship between work ethics and organizational commitment, thus performance. This study would therefore attempt to investigate the Islamic Work Ethics (IWE) practices among the employees of banking institutions in Malaysia with specific focus given to the possible relationship between IWE variables and organizational commitment (OC). The findings of this study indicate that all IWE variables are positively and significantly related to organizational commitment.
