International Journal of Scientific & Technology Research, 2020

Blockchain is cutting-edge technology and it has been gaining popularity for cryptocurrency and financial transactions. The transaction process is maintained by the blockchain, which can be used to verify the reliability of the transactional contract. The main effort in this study is the significant accessibility of block-chain based on other technologies including the electronic voting (e-voting) system. In particular, the traditional e-voting system has various limitations and challenges for a very long time. For building a secure e-voting system we have proposed a blockchain-based distributed application that offers fairness, transparency, and flexibility than the existing system. The paper presents a novel secured distributed database of the voter’s information, and voter information will be deposited against their private key and digital signature in the central database. Finally, the block-chain based application allows solid robustness, privacy, and transparency which improves the system reliability, secure and reductions the expenditure of hosting a countrywide election.

These processes have many drawbacks such as transparency, low voter turnout , tampering of votes, distrust in the election body, forging of unique Id (voter id card), delay in giving out results and the most important is security issues. Security of digital voting is always the biggest concern when considering to implement a digital voting system. With such monumental decisions at stake, there can be no doubt about the system's ability to secure data and defend against potential attacks. One way the security issues can be potentially solved is through the use of blockchain technology. Blockchain technology offers infinite number of applications. Blockchain is a distributed ledger technology that allows digital assets to be transacted in a peer-to-peer decentralized network. A distributed ledger technology is an exciting advancement in this regard. Block is a collection of all the transactions. Blockchain possess salient features such as immutability, Decentralization, Security, Transparency and anonymity. Blockchain with smart contracts emerges as a promising candidate for building a safer, secure and transparent E-voting systems. In this paper we have implemented and tested a sample e-voting application as a smart contract for the Ethereum network using the blockchain technology through wallets and the Solidity language. Limited amount of token(gas) is given in the wallet which is exhausted when the user votes thus preventing duplicity of votes. This paper also highlights the pros and cons of using blockchain technology and also demonstrates a practical system by showcasing a webapp for voting and its limitations.

International Journal for Research in Applied Science & Engineering Technology (IJRASET), 2023

New opportunities to create new kinds of digital services are being provided by blockchain. Although research on the subject is still in its early stages, it has largely concentrated on the technical and legal issues rather than making use of this novel idea and developing advanced digital services. In order to develop a new electronic voting system that could be used in local or national elections, we will make use of the open source Blockchain technology. The Blockchain-based system will be safe, dependable, and anonymous, and it will contribute to a rise in voter turnout and public confidence in their governments. In order to be accessible to voters while being guarded against outside influences preventing votes from being cast or preventing a voter's ballot from being tampered with, an e-Voting system must have enhanced security. Voting systems with blockchain technology have the potential to be transparent and secure. This paper suggests a Python-based voting system that is built on the blockchain. The voting process is managed by the system using smart contracts, and the votes are recorded on the blockchain. Voters can cast their ballots from any location with an internet connection thanks to the voting process's ease-of-use and simplicity. The system is set up to protect voters' anonymity and privacy while discouraging any fraudulent activity. The suggested system provides a tamper-proof and auditable voting process that improves the electoral process's integrity. The use of blockchain technology also promotes greater transparency and lessens the possibility of mistakes or manipulations. overall, the suggested system presents viable option for a secure and transparent voting process.

Electronic Voting based on Blockchain: "In a Democracy"

Voting is the most important process of any democracy being it "bi" or "multi" party form. Voting ensures that its representative maintains a healthy balance of social and political equity. In a mature democracy, voting by people offers their representation in the political system. The privacy of voters is a major concern in any voting during elections for their leaders along with their integrity of the vote. The blockchain being an immutable distributed ledger based on a consensus algorithm is the most agile form of E-voting. In this paper, we discuss some aspects of a smart contract named "VotingContract" and demonstrated its implementation.

Elections play an essential role in any democracy. Elections give the people a right to choose whichever political party or independent candidate they deem fit to govern the country. This entire process requires safeguarding the anonymity of the voter and the surety that the votes cast are not tampered with at any time. The current voting system seems to be lacking in these crucial aspects and can be easily tampered with to favor a specific candidate or political party. The paper elucidates the requirements of building electronic voting systems and identifies the legal and technological limitations of using blockchain as a service for realizing such systems. Through this paper we intend to use blockchain technology to safeguard the identity of the voter and to make sure that vote cast cannot be tampered with under any circumstances. Doing so will protect the democratic rights of all the citizens. We also intend to address the problems faced in the Blockchain based Voting System (BVM).
