We all know that the Internet is a rich source of information. Most students, researchers and professionals approach the Internet to find relevant information for their day-to-day work. Finding the pertinent information on the Internet is like finding a needle in the haystack. There are various searching tools available on the Internet such as Search Engines, Directories, Web Indices, Deep Web and Subject Gateways for finding relevant information on the Web. A web directory is an important source of information on the Internet. There are so many directories on the Web having different types of content. This paper describes a brief concept about web directories, their types, features, rules, advantages, limitations and a list of some web directories which are very useful for the students, research scholars, working professionals and faculty members associated with the various disciplines.
