The aim of this study is to analyse the students' creative thinking skills in order to solve the open problems on algebraic operation material. The type of this study is qualitative descriptive study which used interview and test in collecting the data. There were seventh grade students at SMP IT Nur Hidayah as the subject of this study. There are three stages in analysing data of the study, including: data reduction, data collection, data presentation, and data conclusions. The findings of this study showed that the fluency aspect is only fulfilled by students with high mathematical abilities, while students with low mathematical abilities have not been achieved in solving the third problem. Further, only students with high mathematical abilities who can achieve the aspect of flexibility. Those students can explain well and give the reason properly how to get a written answer solution in solving the question. The students with high mathematical abilities also can achieve the originality aspect. In contrast, students with low mathematical abilities have difficulties in understanding the question and it makes them have no unique idea in answering the given question.
This research aims to describe mathematical creative thinking ability viewed from students' learning styles and educational background. This study is a qualitative research. The subjects of this research are 26 preservice teachers. The data of this research were taken from the questionnaires, tests, and interviews. The research design uses triangular qualitative. The result shows that the subjects possess different creative thinking abilities as seen from the perspectives of learning style and educational background. Most of the subjects (12 students) have low creative ability (46.1%). They are not yet able to apply the four aspects of the mathematical creative thinking. The subjects from high ability category have already done all of the aspects in creative thinking, except the originality aspect. They still used the same way of solution. The subjects from medium category also have done the four creative thinking aspects, except fluency and originality aspects. The highest mathematical creative thinking aspect was achieved by subjects from Senior High School (Natural Sciences class) with auditory learning style. The second high achievement was made by Madrasah Aliyah (MA) students with auditory style, and the next was from Vocational High School with auditory learning style too. Out of the four mathematical creative thinking ability aspects, the flexibility, originality, and elaboration aspects should remain to be the attention of teachers.

Students' mathematical creative thinking abilities can be determined by giving students open-ended problems. This research aims to describe students' mathematical creative thinking abilities in solving open-ended problems when viewed from their self-concept. This type of research is qualitative descriptive research. The subject selection technique used in this research was purposive sampling. The subjects of this research consisted of one student with a high self-concept category, one with a medium self-concept category, and one with a low self-concept. Data collection methods in this research include questionnaire methods and tests. Moreover, the data analysis techniques used include analysis of mathematical self-concept questionnaires and open-ended mathematics questions. The research results show that students with a high self-concept category can fulfill all aspects of creative thinking abilities, including fluency, flexibility, and originality, so their mathematical creative thinking abilities are also high. In contrast to students with moderate self-concept, it was found that their creative thinking abilities were low, and students with low self-concept had moderate mathematical creative thinking abilities. So, it can be concluded that based on this research, students' selfconcept does not always describe their mathematical creative thinking abilities in solving open-ended problems.
Level of student's creative thinking in classroom mathematics
It is reasonable to assume that people are creative, but the degree of creativity is different. The Idea of the level of student's creative thinking has been expressed by experts, such as Gotoh , and Krulik and Rudnick (1999). The perspective of the mathematics creative thinking refers to a combination of logical and divergent thinking which is based on intuition but has a conscious aim. The divergent thinking is focused on flexibility, fluency, and novelty in the mathematical problem solving and problem posing (Silver, 1997). Students have various backgrounds and different abilities. They possess different potential in thinking pattern, imagination, fantasy and performance. Therefore, students have a different level of creative thinking. This research used qualitative approach which aims to describe the characteristic of the level of student's creative thinking in mathematics. The task-based interview was conducted to collect data from the 8 th grade students of junior secondary school. Snowball method was used to determine subject research. Finally, there were nine students from junior secondary school of "SMP Negeri 6 Sidoarjo" and one student from "SMP Al Hikmah" Surabaya. The result of this research pointed out the five levels of creative thinking that are of level 0 to level 4 which has a different characteristic. This difference is based on fluency, flexibility, and novelty in mathematical problem solving and problem posing.

When solving a problem, the calculation made seemed rushing, was less careful, and frequented with trial and error strategy. The low-achievers showed difficulties in understanding the problems. Their answers were not systematic,...
Using Open-ended Problem-solving Tests to Identify Students’ Mathematical Creative Thinking Ability
Participatory Educational Research
This study aimed to examine an open-ended problem-solving assessment tool that can be used to measure the profile of students' mathematical creativity based on the type of mathematical creativity. The open-ended problem-solving assessment consists of open-ended problem-solving sheets and interview guidelines to measure the profile of students' mathematical creativity. One hundred and five students were asked to solve open-ended problems. From each group, one student was selected to be interviewed with the aim of obtaining a more detailed explanation of each of these types. The two types can be explained as follows. The "very creative" students were those who could perform cognitive flexibility and cognitive fluency in solving open-ended problems. The other type of students was creative students who were able to think flexibly (cognitive flexibility) when solving open-ended problems. Cognitive flexibility includes the ability to describe various solutions and provide more than one answer to a problem. Cognitive fluency includes the ability to interpret the answer smoothly and accurately without any constraints. It may also refer to the ability to correct a wrong answer even though there was a mistake during the operating process. The analysis results showed that the open-ended problem-solving assessment was an effective tool to measure students' mathematical creativity in terms of results (products) and processes. In terms of results (products), it was able to determine the type of students' mathematical creative ability, namely very creative and creative, while in terms of processes, it was able to describe the differences in the cognitive profile of the two types.
