The ideas presented in these materials are drawn from several classical publications, and were refined in use by hundreds of students in the pre-service teacher education course in educational psychology at Southern Illinois University, Edwardsville. These materials profited greatly from the seriousness with which these students took their study of teaching and classroom management. Graduates of the teacher education program regularly rated that course as the most helpful one in the program. Gratitude is expressed to the twenty-five years of students who contributed to these materials.

Classroom Management Practices: Methods and Approaches Applied for the Purpose of Student's Personal Development

Classroom Management Practices: Methods and Approaches Applied for the Purpose of Student’s Personal Development, 2023

Classroom management practices which teachers apply in their everyday practice are focused on creating positive environment which will enable students to effectively work and learn on a daily basis. Additionally, some practices familiar in the educational theory, known as methods of educational work, can have much bigger impact and contribute toward long-term changes related to student's overall personal development. Their application influences on developing and strengthening some personal qualities like: positive beliefs and attitudes toward learning and personal improvement, self-control, self-discipline, diligence, responsibility, positive work habits etc. This paper examines the use of the methods of educational work, through the frequency of use of different approaches and strategies in teachers' everyday classroom management practice, focusing on praise, reward, and training, as a part of the process of developing habits; inhibition and punishment in situation when negative behaviour occurs, and others. The sample includes 364 secondary school teachers in North Macedonia, with different length of working experience in the teaching profession. The application of these methods is seen as an important part of teachers' practice, and due to this it should be considered as a necessary component of the initial teacher education, as well as teachers' continuous professional development. The paper stresses the importance of teacher education in this domain, emphasizing that their appropriate or inappropriate use can lead either to long-term positive outcomes or to negative consequences.

This article discusses the findings of an action research project carried out to minimize the negative class participation of 10 EFL pre-intermediate students, aged-11-14, in a language school in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. First, some theoretical issues concerning discipline in the language class will be discussed. Second, the original project I developed in 1995 to minimize the negative class participation of 14 EFL beginner students, aged 1 -15, will be reviewed. Next, the experiment with the 003 group will be described. The results seem to confirm that, although some adaptations to the original project were necessary, when students reflect upon their importance in the lessons, they tend to behave better in class and to show a more positive attitude towards learning.<br>Este artículo discute los resultados de una investigación acción realizada para minimizar los problemas de disciplina en una clase de 10 alumnos de inglés, de nivel pre-intermedio, con edades entre 11-14 años, e...

Discipline Problems : Elementary Education : Expectation : Interpersonal Competence ; * Locus of Control : Perspective Taking : Self Concept : Social Cognition : Student Behavior

2008

Elementary teachers read vignettes depicting incidents involving (fictional) students who presented' chronic behavior problems, and then told how they would respond if the incidents occurred in their classrooms. Responses were coded for attributions about the students and about the teachers' roles in causing and remediating the problems. Teachers attributed controllability and intentionality.to students presenting teacher-owned problems, but not to students presenting student-owned problems. Students presenting shared problems often were seen as able to control their behavior, but not as misbehaving intentionally. The contrasting patterns of attribution seen in these three levels of problem ownership were also associated with-.contrasting patterns of goals and strategies. The data bear out expectations based on attributional analyses of helping behavior, but raise questions about teachers' preparedness to cope with problem students.

How To Deal With Problematic Students: Classroom Problem Behaviors and Solutions

Issues of diversity play a role in how students and teachers view the importance of the classroom and what should happen there. This diversity comprises of different socioeconomic backgrounds, learning abilities, needs and perceptions. It is undeniable that in a student-centered learning environment, students are allowed to participate in choosing their favorite activities, which are built upon learning objectives, and contents from other sources outside the textbooks. This result attributes to the inquiry-based learning approach (used in student-centered approach) which encourages collaborative learning in which students (regardless their abilities) learn to work in group in order to find a solution to the assigned problem and take roles in presenting their finding information.
