Apocalyptic and Eschatology Theology of the New Heavens and the New Earth in the Intertestamental Literature (original) (raw)

2019, African Journal of Local Societies Initiative (LOSI), A Multidisciplinary Journal , Department of Religion and Philosophy, Benue State University (Nigeria).

This paper examines the apocalyptic and eschatological views concerning the theology of the New Heaven and the New Earth to ascertain whether the universe will be annihilated or renewed at the parousia. These writings fall in between the Old and the New Testament period. At the close of the book of Malachi in the Old Testament, the nation of Israel was back again in the land of Palestine after the Babylonian captivity, but they were under the domination of the great world power of that day, Persia and the Medo-Persian empire. In Jerusalem, the temple had been repaired, though it was a much smaller building than the one that Solomon had built and decorated in such marvelous glory. There had been no inspired voice from God, it is called the 400 silent years. Although there were inspired records written by different authors that came in between the Old and New Testaments to throw more light on the concept of the New Heaven and the New Earth.
