NYC Employment Prospectus (original) (raw)

The purpose of this analysis is to determine if employment trends in New York City reflect larger trends in the U.S. workforce. To explore this topic, NYC Jobs data is examined. The NYC Jobs dataset features job postings for city government positions, which are available at www1.ncy.gov. The data is provided by the Department of Citywide Administrative Services (DCAS) and is automatically updated biweekly. The focus here is on five variables from this dataset: career level, salary frequency, job category, division and minimum qualification requirements. An in-depth look at the data reveals a movement away from low skilled employment and towards growth in both high and middle skilled jobs. There is a need for high skilled workers in city government. However, the disparity is not immense, and low skill employment is available. Overall, the desire for employee's with advanced skills and knowledge seems evident in the data. It would be prudent for the city to plan to provide educational opportunities for residents, centered around some of this information.
